“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about smelling musk. He (the Imam) said, ‘We smell it.’”

Blowing at three things is detestable: blowing at a talisman, blowing at food, and blowing at the place of prostration.”

Whoever is antagonistic with the following three people will be debased: his father, the King and the one who has given him a loan.”

I said to Abu Abdillah, peace be upon him: What is the meaning of the saying of the praying during his testification: «To Allah belongs what becomes good and is purified, and what is impurified, it is for others»? He said: That which becomes good and is purified is the lawful acquirement of sustenance, and that which is impurified is usury.

The Messenger of Allah, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family, said: There will come, upon people, a time in which the happiest among the people in this world will be a despised slave, son of a despised slave. The best of people on that day will be a believer between two generous.

I am the Master of the Prophets, and Ali ibn Abi Talib (s) is the Master of the Trustees. The Trustees after me are twelve, the first of whom is Ali ibn Abi Talib (s) and their last one is the Riser.”

The Prophet (s) said: `Ali will clarify that which my Nation will disagree about after me.

Abu Sufyan approached, while Mu’awiya was following him, and the Messenger of Allah, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family, said: «O Allah, curse the following and the followed. O Allah, it is upon You to ruin the belittled lordotic.» Ibn Baraa’ said to his father: Who is the belittled lordotic? He said: Mu’awiya.

Prophet (s) said to Ali: For any believer who has the love for you fixed in his heart, if one of his feet slips on the Path, the other will be firm so that Allah will take him to Paradise for his love to you.

The Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) said to me, “O ‘Imrān! Everything has a place in the heart. However, nothing can fill the place I have in my heart for these two sons.” I said, “O Messenger of Allāh! (You love them) this much?” The Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) replied, “That which is hidden from you (the extent of my love) is even greater than this. Verily Allāh has ordered me to love them.”

Of the following three I do not really know which one is a greater offense than the others. The first is following a funeral procession without having on one’s robe. The second is striking one’s buttocks with the hand at times of calamities. The third one is saying ‘Be benign to him. Have mercy upon him. May God have mercy upon you’ when attending a funeral procession.”

Sulayman b. Mehran narrated to us. He said: I visited al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as), and with him was a delegation of Shi`a. So, I heard him say: O Shi`a! Be an adornment for us, and do not be a disgrace for us. Speak beautifully to the people. Guard your tongues and stop them from superfluous and ugly sayings.

The Messenger of Allah, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family, cursed the namisa, muntamisa, washira, mustawshira, wasila, mustawsila, washima and the mustawshima.

Nine-tenths of the daily bread is in commerce and last tenth is in the skin - that is the skin of sheep.”

I heard the Messenger of Allah (s) say: I am the Master of the Prophets, and `Ali b. Abi Talib is the Master of the Deputies, and al-Hasan and al-Husayn are the Masters of the Youth of the People of Paradise, and the Imams after them are the Masters of the Godfearing. Our friends are the friends of Allah, and our enemies are the enemies of Allah. Obedience to us is obedience to Allah, and disobedience of us is disobedience of Allah.

I asked Ja`far ibn Muhammad (AS), “Is it permissible for you to say: Verily, Allah, the Mighty and High, is in a place?” Thus, he (AS) replied, “Glory be to Allah, and Exalted be He, from that! Verily, if He were subjected to space, He would have been caused since anything that exists in a place is in need of space. Anything that is in need of space is accidental, because the Eternal has no needs.

Uthman bin Affan wrote, when he was surrounded, to Ali bin Abi Talib, peace be upon him: To proceed, the water has exceeded the zuba, the belt has reached the tubyayn, the matter has exceeded its extent with me, and I have been sought by those who do not repel from themselves. Hence, if you are one who eats, then be the best one who eats. Otherwise, catch up with me while I am being ripped.

When `Ali b. Abi Talib buried Fatima (sa), he stood at the edge of the grave. This was in the middle of the night because he had buried her at night. Then, he recited: For every meeting between two lovers there is a departure, And all that is done [together] before death is brief, My loss of one person after the other Is an indication that the lover is not everlasting, My remembrance will cease, and my love will be forgotten, And my lover will have a lover after me.

Salman the Good (ra) narrated to me, saying: O Aba’l Hasan! Rarely do you and I visit the Messenger of Allah (s) and he does not say: “O Salman! This [`Ali] and his party are the triumphant on the Day of Resurrection.”

I said to Abu Abdillah, peace be upon him: Indeed, upon me is much debt, and I have children and am not able to perform the pilgrimage, so teach me a prayer that I pray with. So he said: Say at the end of every prescribed prayer: «O Allah, send Your blessings upon Muhammed and the Family of Muhammed, and clear me of the debt of this world and the debt of the Hereafter». Then I said to him: As for the debt of this world, I have known it, so what is the debt of the Hereafter? He said: The debt of the Hereafter is pilgrimage.
