“I advise you to avoid liars and those who are always fighting with each other since they have abandoned what they have been ordered to do. O' Abi Ubaydeh! Treat the people according to their own manners, and try to treat them better than they treat you. We do not consider one to be intelligent unless he knows how to talk with others. He then recited: “But surely thou will know them by the tone of their speech.” [The Holy Quran: Muhammad 47:30]

“Once I said to abu Ja‘far (a.s.), ‘Please speak to me about things whereby I can benefit.’ He said, ‘O abu ‘Ubaydah, speak of death very often. Whoever speaks of death very often restrains from the worldly matters (sins).”’

“I said to Abū Jaʿfar (a), ‘May I be your ransom! Inform me of something that I may benefit from.’ So he said, ‘O Abā ʿUbaydah, remember death often, for a person does not remember death often but that he detaches himself from the [yearnings of the material] world.’”

“I told Abū Jaʿfar, ‘May I be made your ransom! Pray to Allah for me, for verily I have [committed] many sins.’ So he said, ‘Stop, O Abā ʿUbaydah! Let Satan not be a helper of your base-self. Verily the pardon [and forgiveness] of Allah cannot be compared to anything.’”

O Abu `Ubaydah! Beware of quarrelers and those who relate lies about us. Verily, they have left what they were ordered to learn and seek from the knowledge of Heaven. O Abu `Ubaydah! Mould people with morals and pursue them with their deeds. Verily, we never consider a person to be wise until he recognizes the tone of speech. He (AS) then recited this verse: And most certainly you can recognize them by the tone of (their) speech.

“I asked abu Ja’far (a.s.) ‘(I request you to) teach me a Hadith that can benefit me.’ The Imam said, ‘O abu ‘Ubaydah, speak of death very often. No one speaks of death very often but that it reduces his interest in worldly matters.’”

“We lived during the times of abu Ja‘far (a.s.). When he passed away we were left like sheep without shepherd. We met Salim ibn abu Hafs and he said to me, “O abu ‘Ubayda, who is your Imam?” I said, “My Imams are A’l (family) of Muhammad (s.a).” He said, “Did not I and you hear abu Ja‘far (a.s.) say, “Whoever would die without an Imam above him he has died as the death of the age ignorance.” I said, “Yes, that is very true. I can swear by my own life.” It was only about three days before my meeting with abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) in which meeting Allah granted to me the blessing of recognizing him as my Imam. I said to abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) that Salim said to me so and so.” The narrator has said that the Imam (a.s.) said, “O abu ‘Ubayda, no one of us passes away before appointing a successor that would act and behave just as the preceding Imam and call people to what the Imam before him did. O abu ‘Ubayda what was given to David did not bar Sulayman from receiving (Allah’s blessings).” Then he said, “O abu ‘Ubayda, when Al-Qa’im (the one who will rise with Divine Authority) will rise he will judge among people the way David and Sulayman had been judging among people. He will call any witness to testify in a case.”

“Once I was a partner of abu Ja’far (a.s.) on a journey on one side of the carriage on the camel from Madina to Makka. On the way he dismounted for rest and, when he returned, he asked me for a handshake. He squeezed my hand so hard that my fingers began to hurt. He then said, ‘O abu ‘Ubaydah, when two Muslims meet, shake hands and crisscross their fingers, their sins begin to fall from them like leaves fall from trees on a fall day.’”

“A believer should advise his believing brothers.”

Abū Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)) said to me: O Abā ‘Ubaydah! Do not neglect establishing prayers in the Mosque of Kūfah even if you have to crawl to it because establishing one prayer there is equal to establishing seventy prayers in other mosques.

I asked Abu Jafar Imam Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Baqir (as) about a blind man who intentionally gouged out the eye of a sighted person. Imam (as) said: "O' Abu Ubaydah, the intentional act of a blind man is treated like a mistake (khaṭaʾ). The blood money (diyyah) must be paid from his wealth. If he has no wealth, then the diyyah is upon the Imam. The right of a Muslim must not be invalidated."

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), if performing Salat (prayer) in all of al-Haram (the sacred area) is of the same degree of virtue. He (the Imam) said, ‘O abu ‘Ubaydah, all Salat (prayer) in Masjid al-Haram are not of the same degree of virtue; then how can it be the same in all of al-Haram (the sacred area)?’ I then asked, ‘Which part of it is more excellent?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is between the door and the Black Stone.’”

“It is of a believer’s obligations to provide good advice to another believer.”

"Any non-Muslim under the protection of Islam (dhimmi) who buys land from a Muslim is obligated to pay Khums on it."

“I heard abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘If one builds a Masjid, Allah builds for him a house in paradise.’ Abu ‘Ubaydah has said, ‘Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), once passed by on the way to Makkah and I had built a Masjid with stones and asked him, “I pray to Allah to keep my souls in the service of your cause , I hope this will be of those (houses in paradise).” He (the Imam) said, “Yes, it will be so.’””

"The child of mula'anah is inherited by his mother with one-third, and the remainder belongs to the Imam of the Muslims."

Hadith.704 - Abu Ubaidah Al-Hadha’ said: "Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) passed by me while I was between Makkah and Madinah placing stones. I asked: 'Is this from that?' Imam (as) said: 'Yes.'"

Imam Zayn al-Abidin (AS) said, ‘Allah will ask one of His servants on the Day of Resurrection, ‘Did you thank x?, and the servant will reply, ‘No, but I thanked You instead, O Lord. Allah will reply, ‘You have not thanked Me as long as you have not thanked him.

"When you are on a journey, say: 'O Allah (swt), make my traveling a source of lessons, my silence a form of reflection, and my speech a means of remembrance.'"

"The entire inheritance belongs to the grandfather."
