Hadith 860

Al-Husayn b. Ahmad b. Idris (ra) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Abd al-Jabbar narrated to us from Abi Ahmad Muhammad b. Ziyad al-Azdi. He said: Isma`il b. al-Fadl narrated to us from his father from Thabit b. Dinar from Sa`id b. Jubayr from Ibn `Abbas. He said
The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Surely, Allah revealed to me that He is giving me a brother, inheritor, vicegerent (khalifa), and deputy from my Nation. So, I said: “O Lord! Who is he?” So, He revealed to me: “O Muhammad! He is the Imam of your Nation and My Proof over it after you.” So, I said: “O Lord, who is it?” So, He revealed to me: “O Muhammad! He is the one I love and the one who loves Me. He is the striver in My way, and the fighter of those who break My covenant, those who deviate from My judgment, and those who apostatize from My religion. He is truly My friend, the husband of your daughter, and the father of your descendants: `Ali b. Abi Talib.”

قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): إن الله تبارك وتعالى أوحى إلي أنه جاعل لي من أمتي أخا ووارثا وخليفة ووصيا. فقلت: يا رب، من هو؟ فأوحى إلي عز وجل: يا محمد إنه إمام أمتك، وحجتي عليها بعدك. فقلت: يا رب، من هو؟ فأوحى إلي عز وجل: يا محمد ذاك من أحبه ويحبني، ذاك المجاهد في سبيلي، والمقاتل لناكثي عهدي، والقاسطين في حكمي، والمارقين من ديني، ذاك وليي حقا، زوج ابنتك، وأبو ولدك، علي بن أبي طالب (2).
