أم سلمة

I heard the Messenger of Allah (s) say: The Mahdi is from my progeny from the children of Fatima.

Umm Salamah narrated: “One morning Ameer al-Momineen (a.s) came and knocked at our door. God's Prophet (a.s) asked me to get up and open the door. I opened the door, but Imam Ali (a.s) held the door so that it did not open wide and he could not see me. I went to my room and he requested permission to enter and entered the house when permission was granted.”

I heard the Messenger of Allah (s) say: “Mahdi is from my progeny, from the descendants of Fatima.”

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘When performing Salah (prayer) for a deceased, the Messenger of Allah would say Takbir (Allah is great beyond description), then say the two testimonies (I testify that only Allah deserves worship, He is one and has no partners and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger). He would then say Takbir then say, “ O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause” and pray for the prophets. Then say Takbir (Allah is great beyond description) and pray for the believing people, then say the fourth Takbir and pray for the deceased, then say Takbir and end the Salah (prayer). When Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, prohibited praying for the hypocrites, he (the Messenger of Allah) would say Takbir, say the two testimonies, pray for the prophets, then say Takbir and pray for the believing people then say the fourth Takbir, end the Salah (prayer) and would not pray for the deceased.’”

What’s the matter with you? She said: My son, al-Husayn (as) has been killed and I haven’t seen the Messenger of Allah (s) since he died save this night. So, I said: May my father and my mother be sacrificed for you! Why is it that I see you so looking so haggard and pale? He said: I have been digging the grave of al-Husayn and the graves of his companions since this night.

“Umma Salma asked the Prophet (MGB), ‘May my father and mother be your ransom! If a woman has had two husbands who die and enter Heaven, which one will she belong to?’ The Prophet (MGB) answered, ‘O Umma Salma! She will chose the one who was best tempered and loved his wife the most. O Umma Salma! Good temper will result in the best of this world and the Hereafter.’”

I did not hear the lamentation of Jinn since the night Allāh took the life of His Prophet (s.a.a.w.) until tonight, and I believe that I have been afflicted by (the killing of) my son, Ḥusain (a.s.). I heard a Jinni recite (the following poem): O my eyes! Shed abundant tears. Who will weep over the martyrs?! (Shed tears) over a group who are being led toward (their) death by a tyrant who is from the progeny of a slave.

I heard the Messenger of Allah (s) say: `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) and the Imams from his descendants after me are the masters of the people of Earth and the Leaders of the shining believers on the Day of Resurrection.
