محمد بن إسماعيل

Prophet (S) had said: “Allah has revealed to me in the night of the Ascension: “O Muhammad, whom have you entrusted with your umma on the earth-(and He is aware)?” I said: “O my God, I have entrusted my brother.” He the Almighty said: “O Muhammad, is he Ali bin Abu Talib?” I said: “Yes, he is. O my God!” He said: “O Muhammad, I had a look at the earth and chose you from among its people. Whatever I mention, you are to mention with me. I am Mahmood and you are Muhammad. Then I had another look at the earth. I chose Ali bin Abu Talib and made him your guardian. You are the master of the prophets and Ali is the master of the guardians. Then I derived for him a name from my name; I am al-A’la (the highest) and he is Ali (high). O Muhammad, I have created Ali, Fatima, al-Hasan, al-Husayn and the rest of the imams from one light and then I offered their guardianship before the angels. Whoever of them accepted it became close to me and whoever denied it became among the unbelievers. O Muhammad, if one of My people worships me devotedly and then he meets Me denying their guardianship, I will throw him into Hell.” Then He said: “O Muhammad, do you like to see them?” I said: “Yes, O my Lord.” He said: “Go ahead!” I went ahead and I saw Ali bin Abu Talib, al-Hasan, al-Husayn, Ali bin al-Husayn, Muhammad bin Ali, Ja’far bin Muhammad, Musa bin Ja’far, Ali bin Musa, Muhammad bin Ali, Ali bin Muhammad, al-Hasan bin Ali and al-Hujjah al-Mahdi, who was like a shining star in the middle of them. I said: “O my God, who are they?” He said: “These are the imams and this is al-Qa’im. He will permit what I have permitted, prohibit what I have prohibited and will revenge on My enemies. O Muhammad, love him because I love him and love whoever loves him.”

A man defamed and slandered another man in presence of the Prophet, peace be upon him and his progeny, so a person from the people present, refuted him. The Prophet, peace be upon him and his progeny, said: "Whoever defends the honour of his brother, that act will shield him from hellfire."

“A person visiting the grave of Imam Husain (a.s.) near Euphrates is like a person who visits Allah near the Divine throne.”

The Prophet, peace be upon him and his progeny, said: "On the Day of Reckoning tomorrow, the nearest to me will be those who are most truthful in their speech and the most ardent in paying back the deposits entrusted to them, and the most faithful in fulfilling their promises and the best in their behaviour and the most amiable to the people."

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: The clay of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) is a cure for every disease. When you eat it, recite (the following): (I start) in the name of Allāh and by Allāh. O Allāh! Make it (the cause of) extensive sustenance and beneficial knowledge (for me) and make it my cure from every disease. Verily You have power over all things.

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: The sacred boundaries of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) are one parasang by one parasang from each of its four sides.

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about a man who comes to a people during their Salah (prayer) and he is not intending it to be Salah (prayer). Their Imam faces invalidation of his Wudu’ and holds the hand of this man and makes him to lead. He performs Salah (prayer) with them. Is his Salah (prayer) sufficient to complete their Salah (prayer) while he has not intended it to be Salah (prayer)? He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not proper for a man to come to a people in their Salah (prayer) and not intend it to be Salah (prayer). It is proper for him to intend it to be Salah (prayer). If he has already performed Salah (prayer) he has another Salah (prayer). Otherwise, he must not come to them; their Salah (prayer) is sufficient for them even if he did not intend it to be Salah (prayer).”’

“No one quarrels except for the one whose chest is narrowed.”

“He (the Imam) (a.s.), has said, ‘Eating sweet pomegranate increases one’s seed and forms the child well?”

"The quickest evil consequence is for a man to whom you do a good turn and he pays you back by evil deeds; and a man with whom you have entered into a covenant wishing to fulfil it, while he intends to deceive you; and a person to who you are not insolent, but he persists in his insolence against you; and a person with whom you mend your blood relationship but he cuts you off."

“I once heard Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), saying that Ali (a.s.), would say, ‘Had Banu al-Khattab not prohibited al-Mut‘ah (advantageous marriage) before (the beginning of my administration) no one would commit fornication except the wicked ones.’”

“I once asked abu Ja’far (a.s.), about the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, . . the dependents who are not of the condition of sensing carnal desires among men. . . (24:31) He (the Imam) said, ‘ It is a reference to those who because of dimwittedness do not go near women.”’

“I once asked abu Ibrahim (a.s.), about the case of a girl who has not gained feeling of carnal desire, when must she use a veil to cover her head from non-relatives and when is it necessary to cover her head for Salat (prayer)? He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not necessary for her to cover her head until Salat (prayer) becomes obligatory on her.’”

“I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about a man who is in the state of Ihram and plays with his wife until he discharges semen without intercourse; or if it is in the month of Ramadan what he will owe. He (the Imam) said, ‘There is kaffarah (expiation) on both of them just as for sexual intercourse.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who performs Tawaf (Sa‘y) between al- Safa’ and al-Marwah before Tawaf around the House. He (the Imam) said, ‘He must go back to perform Tawaf around the House, then return to perform Sa‘y between al-Safa’ and al-Marwah.’”

It is effective for one-fourth of what is willed according to her testimony.’”

“I once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man to whom another man owes a certain amount of dirham and he gives it as a gift to him (the indebted); if he can change his mind and take it back. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, he cannot do so.”’

It is not harmful.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about things that follow a deceased after his death. He (the Imam) said, ‘Of the things that follow a deceased after his death is his establishing a Sunnah of guidance which is acted upon after his death. He receives a reward just like the reward received by the one who has acted accordingly without any reduction in the reward of any one of them. Another issue is a perpetual charity that functions after his death, and a virtuous child who prays for his parents after their death, performs al-Hajj, gives charity on their behalf after their death, sets free slaves, fasts and performs Salat (prayer) on their behalf/ I then asked if I can share my al-Hajj with them. He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, you can do so/”

“I sat with Ibn ‘Abbas that a mention of ordained shares of inheritance was made and Ibn ‘Abbas said, ‘Allah is free of all defects, the most great. Do you think that one who enumerates the number of the grains of sand in a sand valley has designated half and half and one-third? The two halves take away the legacy then where is the room for the one-third?’ Zufar ibn ’Aws al-Basri said, ‘O Ibn ‘Abbas, who was the first one who caused excess or deficiency in the ordained shares? He said, ‘It was ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab when several ordained shares were before him which he gave certain amount to certain people and he said, “I do not know which one of you is first and which one is last according to Allah and I do not find anything bigger to distribute this asset among you in shares.” So he deducted from each of those with ordained shares to offset for the deficiency. I swear by Allah had he placed first whom Allah had placed first and placed last whom Allah had placed last, then no deficiency would take place in the ordained shares.’ Zufar ibn ’Aws then said to him, ‘What has He placed first and what has He placed last?’ He said, ‘Every ordained share that Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has not brought down from its being an ordained share except to another ordained share is what Allah has placed first. What Allah has placed last are such shares that when being moved from its status has no replacement except whatever is left, thus it is what Allah has placed last. The ordained shares that He has placed first are one-half, which is the share of a husband. When something is added to it then it is reduced to one-fourth and thereafter it is not removed to some other position. The share of a wife is one-fourth but when it is removed, it becomes one-eighth and then it remains without change. The share of a mother is one-third and when it is reduced, it becomes one-sixth and it then remains unchanged and these are the ordained shares that Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has placed first. Of the shares, that Allah has placed last is the share of two daughters and sisters, which are one-half and two-thirds. However, when they are removed from these positions they are not placed in another position with the remaining of the legacy. Thus, they are that which Allah has placed last. When the ones that are placed first and those, who are placed last come together, the ones that are placed first are given priority. A complete right is given to the beneficiary; then if anything left is given to those whose shares Allah has placed last. If nothing remains then there is nothing for him.’ Zufar ibn ’Aws then said to him (ibn Abbas), ‘What stopped you from giving this advice to ‘Umar?’ He (ibn Abbass) said, ‘It is his fearsomeness. ’ Al-Zuhri has said, ‘By Allah, had he (ibn Abbas) presented it before a just Imam, who based his command on justice and piety, who would approve it, (the idea of ibn Abbas) then it would pass (in practical form among people) because no two people have disputed over the knowledge of ibn al-‘ Abbas.’”
