I was informed from al-Sadiq, Ja’far bin Muhammed, peace be upon them both, that he said: Indeed, for Allah, Exalted and Glorious is He, there are lands called the avengers. If Allah gives a servant a property which he does not extract the right of Allah, Exalted and Glorious is He, from, Allah will imposition him upon a land of those lands, and he will consume that property in it, and he will then die and abandon it.

I asked Abu Ja`far al-Baqir (AS): “Verily, the people in our presence are talking increasingly about the attributes of Allah. What should we say? So, he (AS) replied, “It is abhorred [makruh]. Do you not hear Allah, the Mighty and High, saying that And that to your Lord is the end of all. Speak about other than that.”

“Ar-Ridha’ (a.s.) would never mention the name of his son Muhammad (a.s.) except by using his nickname (Abu Ja’far). For example, Ar-Ridha’ (a.s.) would say, ‘Abu Ja’far has written me a letter’ or say, ‘I wrote such and such to Abu Ja’far.’ This was so, even though his son was still a small child in Medina. However, the Imam (a.s.) always addressed him with respect. Abu Ja’far (a.s.) would also always respond in an extremely eloquent and charming manner. Once I heard Imam Ar-Ridha’ (a.s.) say, ‘Abu Ja’far (a.s.) is my Testamentary Trustee, and my successor from amongst my family after me.’”

Once, Amirul Mu’mineen ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib, peace be upon him heard someone abusing Qambar, and Qambar was about to answer back. So, Amirul Mu’mineen ‘Ali, peace be upon him, called out to Qambar: "Take it easy O, Qambar! Leave the one who abuses you to be ashamed of himself, so that Allah is pleased and Satan is resentful and your adversary is punished. For, By He Who, split the grain and created the breathing man, nothing from a believer pleases His Sustainer better than forbearance; and nothing makes Satan more indignant than the silence; and the fool is best punished when totally ignored."

I heard Qasem bin Salam say with regards to the meaning of the saying of the Prophet, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family: «The womb is a shujna from Allah, Exalted and Glorious is He», that he means that it is a common kinship that is entangled like the entangling of veins. The saying of a sayer: «The narration has shujoun [1]» is that some parts of it adhere to other parts. Some from the people of knowledge said: It is said: «Trees that are mutashajjin» if some of them are wrapped around each other. It is also said: Shajna and shijna. Shujn is like a branch that is from a tree. The Prophet, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family, has said: Indeed, Fatima is a shujna from me; that which hurts her, hurts me, and that which makes her happy, makes me happy. Allah’s blessings be upon her.

Abu al-Husayn `Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Hirabakht al-Jiraffi al-Nassabah said: Ahmad ibn Salman ibn al-Hasan said: Ja`far ibn Muhammad al-Sa`igh said: Khalid al-`Urani said: Hushaym said: Abu Sufyan, the freed slave of Muzaynah: A man came to Salman al-Farisi (may Allah have mercy on him), and said: “O Abu `Abd Allah! I am deprived of performing my nightly prayers.” Salman replied: “Then do not disobey Allah during the day. A man came to the Commander of the Faithful (AS) and said: `O Commander of the Faithful! I am deprived of my nightly prayers.’” The Commander of the Faithful replied to him, “You are enslaved by your sins.”

"I asked Abu Abdullah (as) about the report that has been narrated: 'Whoever relies more on a pledge (rahn) than on his believing brother, I am free from him.' Imam (as) replied: 'That applies when the truth becomes manifest, and our Qaim (the Mahdi Imam Muhammad ibn Hassan Al-Mahdi (as)) from among the Ahlulbayt (as) rises.' I then asked about the report that says: 'The profit earned by a believer from another believer is riba (usury).' Imam (as) said: 'That applies when the truth becomes manifest, and our Qaim (as) from among the Ahlulbayt (as) rises. As for today, there is no harm if a believer sells to his believing brother and earns profit from him.' "

There is no god but God” is My Stronghold. Whoever enters it is secure from My punishment.”

Ahmad ibn `Isa ibn Zayd said: `Abd Allah ibn Musa ibn `Abd Allah ibn Hasan said, on the authority of his father, on the authority of his forefathers that Al-Hasan ibn `Ali ibn Abu Talib (AS) was asked about the Word of Allah, the Mighty and High: Surely We have created everything according to a measure. He (AS) replied, “Verily, the Mighty and High, has said: We have created everything according to a measure for the dwellers of hell according to their deeds.”

I am the last of the people to have seen ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb. I entered upon him while his head was in the lap of his son ʿAbdullāh, and he was despondent. He said to him: "Put my cheek on the ground." But ʿAbdullāh refused. He then said: "Put my cheek on the ground, may your mother be bereaved of you!" So he placed his cheek on the ground. He kept saying: "Woe to my mother! Woe to my mother, if You do not forgive me!" He continued to say this until his soul departed.

When the Messenger of Allah, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family, was ascended and the (time for) prayer arrived, Jibra’eel, peace be upon him, performed the Adhan. When he said: «Allah is Greater» the Angels said: Allah is Greater, Allah is Greater. When he said: «I testify that there is no god but Allah» the Angels said: The opponents have been negated. When he said: «I testify that Muhammed is the Messenger of Allah» the Angels said: A Prophet has been sent. When he said: «Hasten to prayer» the Angels said: He has motivated to worship of his Lord. When he said: «Hasten to success» the Angels said: Successful is the one who follows him.

I heard Jabir bin Samra say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (s) say: After me, there would be twelve Caliphs and all of them would be from Quraish. When the Messenger of Allah (s) returned to his house, Quraish arrived and addressed the Prophet: What will happen after that? The Prophet replied: Confusion and discord.

I heard some of the people of language say with regards to the meaning of wikar: It is said about food to which people are invited when a house is built or bought: wakeera, and wikar stems from it. The food that is made for the arrival (of someone) from travel, is called naqee’a. It is also called wikar. Rikaz refers to profit. It is as if he indicates that making food for the approaching from Mecca includes a profit to its maker of abundant reward, and from this meaning is the saying of the Prophet, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family: «Fasting during winter is the cold profit». The people of Iraq have said: rikaz applies to all metals. The people of Hijaz have said: rikaz refers exclusively to buried property from what has been saved by the sons of Adam before Islam. That is how it was mentioned by Abu Ubaida as well, and there is no saying except by Allah. We were informed of that by Abu’l-Hasan, Muhammed bin Harun al-Zanjani, among what he wrote to me, from Ali bin Abdul-Aziz, from Abu Ubaida, Qasem bin Salam.

Abu Al-Husayn Muhammad ibn Salih narrated to us, who said: Umar ibn Khalid Al-Makhzumi narrated to us, who said: Abu Nabatah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Musa, from Imarah ibn Muhajir, from Umm Jafar and Umm Muhammad, the daughters of Muhammad ibn Jafar, from Asma bint Umais, who was their grandmother. I have also narrated it from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: Al-Husayn ibn Musa Al-Nakhkhas narrated to me, who said: Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, who said: Abdullah ibn Musa narrated to us, from Ibrahim ibn Al-Hasan, from Fatimah bint Al-Husayn, from Asma bint Umais.

My father Musa ibn Ja’far (AS) related to me that: My father Ja’far ibn Muhammad (AS) related to me that: My father Muhammad ibn `Ali (AS) related to me that: My father `Ali ibn al-Husayn related to me that: My father al-Husayn ibn `Ali (AS) related to me that: My father `Ali ibn Abu Talib (AS) related to that me that: The Messenger of Allah (sw): “Allah, Glorified be He, said: `There is no god but Allah’ is My Fortress. Whoever enters it is saved from My Chastisement.”

A man passed in front of al-Hasan ibn `Ali ibn Abu Talib (AS) while he was praying and one of the people in his gathering stopped him. When he (AS) finished his prayer, he asked the man: “Why did you stop him?” He answered: “O son of the Messenger of Allah! He passed between you and the prayer niche [mihrab].” Thus, he (AS) replied, “Woe unto you! Verily, Allah, the Mighty and High, is closer to me from anyone passing between me and Him.”

When the Prophet, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family, used to send the estimator, he said: Take it lightly with estimation, for indeed, in the property lies what is stripped and what is to be bequeathed.

“O Commander of the Faithful (Al-Ma’mun)! You are in charge of running the affairs, and I am in charge of praying.” When Al-Ma’mun left, I (Abul Husayn) asked Ar-Ridha’ (a.s.), “May God honor you! Why didn’t you accept what he offered?” He (a.s.) replied, “O Aba Husayn! Woe be to you! Are you not at all affected by what has happened?” When the Imam (a.s.) noticed that I was upset about what had happened, he (a.s.) said, “Why are you thinking about this issue? If things happen the way that you think they should, and your position relative to me be the same as it is now, then your salary will be the same as it is now. You will be the same as other people who are near me.”

The first person who cursed the killer(s) of Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.) was Ibrāhīm (a.s.), the Friend of Allāh. He ordered his children to curse them and took a covenant from his children (in this regard). After Ibrāhīm (a.s.), Mūsā ibn ‘Imrān (a.s.) cursed the killers of Ḥusain (a.s.) and he ordered his nation to do so. Dāwūd (a.s.) also cursed them and ordered the Banī Israel to do this. Then ‘Isā (a.s.) cursed them and he used to repeatedly say, “O Banī Israel! Curse the killers of Ḥusain (a.s.), and if (any of) you meet Ḥusain (a.s.), then support him. Those who are martyred with Ḥusain (a.s.) are like those who have been martyred with all of the prophets who faced (their enemies) and did not run away (from them).” It is as if I can see his place (of burial). Every prophet has visited Karbalā. They have all stood on that land and said, “Verily you are a land filled with blessings. Verily the shining moon will be buried within you.”

A beast is an animal, and it was named a beast [1] because it does not speak, and everything that is unable to speak is a’jam [2] and musta’jam. From this stems the saying of Hasan, peace be upon him: «The prayer of the daytime is ‘ajma.» He is saying: Recitation shall not be heard during it. As for jubar, it is to kill in vain. The wound of a beast was only declared to be vain in the case it is loose, having to leader, nor puller, nor rider. If one of these three was with it, he is a guarantor, because the offense therein would not be (legally made) to the beast, but it would only be an offense to its owner who allowed people to ride it. As for his saying: «a well is a jubar» it has more than one saying. It is said: It refers to a well whose owner hires a man to dig it in his property, and it collapses on the digger. Hence, there is no assurance upon its owner. It is also said: It is a well that is in a man’s ownership, and a human or an animal fall into it. Hence, there is no assurance upon him, because it is in his ownership.
