Hadith 63

10. He said: Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar al-Jaʿabī informed me, saying: Abū al-Ḥusayn al-ʿAbbās ibn al-Mughīrah informed us, saying: Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn Manṣūr al-Ramādī informed us, saying: Sulaymān ibn Ḥarb informed us, saying: Ḥammād ibn Zayd narrated from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, from ʿĀsim ibn ʿUbayd Allāh, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abān ibn ʿUthmān, from his father, from ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān, who said
I am the last of the people to have seen ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb. I entered upon him while his head was in the lap of his son ʿAbdullāh, and he was despondent. He said to him: "Put my cheek on the ground." But ʿAbdullāh refused. He then said: "Put my cheek on the ground, may your mother be bereaved of you!" So he placed his cheek on the ground. He kept saying: "Woe to my mother! Woe to my mother, if You do not forgive me!" He continued to say this until his soul departed.
10 - قال: أخبرني أبو بكر محمد بن عمر الجعابي قال: حدثنا أبو الحسين العباس بن المغيرة قال: حدثنا أبو بكر أحمد بن منصور الرمادي قال: حدثنا سليمان بن حرب قال: حدثنا حماد بن زيد ، عن يحيى بن سعيد، عن عاصم ابن عبيد الله، عن عبد الرحمن بن أبان بن عثمان، عن أبيه، عن عثمان بن عفان قال
أنا آخر الناس عهدا بعمر بن الخطاب، دخلت عليه ورأسه في حجر ابنه عبد الله وهو ملول فقال له: ضع خدي بالأرض، فأبى عبد الله، فقال له: ضع خدي بالأرض لا أم لك فوضع خده على الأرض، فجعل يقول: ويل أمي، ويل أمي إن لم تغفر لي، فلم يزل يقولها حتى خرجت نفسه.
