“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Prayer, pleading before Allah for help is more effective than spears.’”

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), about the meaning of restraint from worldly matters. He (the Imam) said, Tie upon you! It is (not difficult to understand) knowing what is unlawful so that you can avoid it.’”

"There is no harm if a woman performs tawaf without being circumcised. As for a man, he should not perform tawaf unless he is circumcised."

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Taking an oath which is false and binding causes poverty consequently.’”

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘Zakat is not due on gems even if it becomes a large amount.’”

“I once saw abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), remove hairs from his cheek and from under his chin.’”

“Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’ (a.s.), has said, ‘Nothing more useful enters the stomach of one suffering from Tuberculosis than bread of rice.’”

“Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’ (a.s.), has said, ‘Do not cut bread with knife, instead break it with the hands and do the opposite of al-Ajam (non- Arabs).”’

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘A wine addict is like a worshipper of idols.’”

Everything in this book that is narrated from Abdullah ibn Al-Mughira has been transmitted by me from Ja'far ibn Ali Al-Kufi - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from his grandfather Al-Hasan ibn Ali, from his grandfather Abdullah ibn Al-Mughira Al-Kufi. I have also narrated it from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from Abdullah ibn Al-Mughira. Additionally, I have narrated it from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan Al-Saffar, from Ibrahim ibn Hashim and Ayyub ibn Nuh, from Abdullah ibn Al-Mughira.

And whatever is narrated regarding the will of Amir Al-Muʾminin, peace be upon him, to his son Muhammad ibn Al-Hanafiyyah - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - I have narrated it from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Ali ibn Ibrahim ibn Hashim, from his father, from Hammad ibn ʿIsa, from someone who mentioned it from Abu Abdillah, peace be upon him. Most people make an error in this chain of transmission by replacing Hammad ibn ʿIsa with Hammad ibn Uthman, whereas Ibrahim ibn Hashim did not meet Hammad ibn Uthman; rather, he met Hammad ibn ʿIsa and narrated from him.

“Al-Hassan ibn al-‘Abbass al-Ma‘rufi wrote to Imam al-Rida (a.s.). “May Allah take my soul in service for your cause, explain to me the difference between the messengers, the prophets and the Imams.” The Imam said or wrote, “ The difference between the messengers, the prophets and the Imams is that a messenger is one to whom Jibril (Gabriel) comes. He sees Jibril and hears his speech and Jibril (the angel) brings him (Divine) revelation and sometimes he may see in his dream like the dream of Abraham (a.s.). A prophet is one who may hear the speech and may see the person or may not hear. The Imam is the one who hears the speech but does not see the person.”

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a town that belonged to non-Muslim taxpayers and I did not know if they were the original owners or not, except that it was in their hands and they paid Kharaj (taxes). Al-Sultan infringed on them and they asked me to take over their town and land to suffice them against al-Sultan with more or less. A certain amount of extra remained with me after whatever al-Sultan took away. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not unlawful for you to have such extra remainders.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Whoever finds himself with an abundance of Allah’s bounties, increases his spending for people. One who does not help people exposes the bounties to losses.’ I (the narrator) said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause. Who can spend to help all these creatures?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘The people there, by Allah, are the believing people.’”

“I once asked al-Rida’ (a.s.), ‘Is it true, as I have heard that Friday is the shortest day?’

“Surely, the number of months with Allah is twelve months in the Book of Allah on the day that He created the heavens and the Earth.” (9:36) The best of the months is the month of Allah, which is the month of Ramadan. The heart of the month of Ramadan is the Night of Power. The Quran came down in the first night of the month of Ramadan. So, welcome the month with the Quran.

I heard the Messenger of Allah (s) say: “Mahdi is from my progeny, from the descendants of Fatima.”

Abu Ja`far (as) said: Allah has obligated thirty-five prayers from one Friday to the next Friday, one of which is the Friday prayer that Allah obligated on Friday. He exempted it from nine: (1) the children, (2) the elderly, (3) the insane, (4) the traveller, (5) the slave, (6) women, (7) the ill, (8) the blind, and (9) those who are two parasangs away.

“Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If a man covers himself with a loincloth up to his two breast he can perform Salah (prayer) with it. He (the narrator) has said that he read in the letter of Muhammad ibn Ibrahim to abu al-Hassan (a.s.), in which he had asked about fennec if it is permissible to perform Salah (prayer) with it. He (the Imam) had written, ‘It is not an offense to perform Salah (prayer) with it.’ He had written asking about the skins of foxes and he (the Imam) had written, ‘It is undesirable.’ He had written asking about lining of silk (not the one from silkworm) if performing Salah (prayer) with it is permissible. He (the Imam) had written, ‘It is permissible.’”

One day while I was with Abī ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) a man asked him, “What is the reward for those who go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.)?” Imam (a.s.) replied – as part of a longer Ḥadīth – “When Ḥusain (a.s.) was killed, everything cried over him, even the (various) lands. Allāh has dedicated four thousand disheveled angels, who are covered with dust, to his grave and they cry over him (and will continue to do so) until the Day of Judgment.”
