He said: In order to seal the clay of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) one should recite (the chapter of) Innā Anzalnāh on it.

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: O Yūnus! Allāh will forgive all of the past and future sins of the believers who go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) on the night of the fifteenth of Sha’bān and they will be told, “Go toward (committing) good deeds.” I said, “All of this (will be registered) for those who go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) on the fifteenth of Sha’bān?!” Imam (a.s.) replied, “O Yūnus! If I tell people about that which will be given to those who go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) on this night, they would travel riding on wood (placed on the back of saddleless camels) to go to him.”

Imam Sādiq (a.s.) said: Anyone who sells the clay of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) has sold and bought the flesh of Ḥusain (a.s.).

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: There is no prophet nor successor who remains on earth for more than three days (after having been buried). Thereafter, their souls, their bones and their flesh are taken up to the heavens. Therefore, by going to places which contain their signs, one sends Salām to them from far (because they are in the heavens). However, they hear it as if they were nearby. The above Ḥadīth has also been narrated to me through the following chain: My father and Muḥammad ibn Ya’qub, from Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā, and from others, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad, from ‘Ali ibn Ḥakam, from Ziyād, from Abī ‘Abdillāh (a.s.).

I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) about performing Ghusl when going to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.). Imam (a.s.) replied, “Performing Ghusl is not obligatory.”

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Those who go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) knowing his rights will be forgiven for all of their past and future sins.

I asked Abā Ja’far the Second (Imam Jawād (a.s.)), “May I sacrifice my life for you! What is the reward for those who go to the Ziyārah of the grave of the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) solely for (the purpose of) Ziyārah?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “(Their reward is) Paradise.”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about how to say farewell to the grave of the Holy prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. He (the Imam) replied, say, ‘I pray to Allah to grant you compensation worthy of Your services to His cause. I appeal before Allah not to make this my last salutation to you.’”

Some of our companions asked Abal Ḥasan (Imam Riďā (a.s.)) about (the reward of) those who go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.). Imam (a.s.) replied, “It is equal to performing an ‘Umrah.”

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Those who go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.) on the Day of ‘Āshūrā while knowing his rights are like those who go to the Ziyārah of Allāh on His Throne.

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Allāh will forgive all of the past and future sins of those who go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) on the fifteenth of Sha’bān.

I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) about establishing prayers in the Ḥā`ir. Imam (a.s.) replied, “One should only establish the obligatory prayers in Taqsīr and he does not have to establish the NĀFILAH prayers.”

I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) about how to bid farewell to the grave of the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.). Imam (a.s.) replied: Recite the following: Allāh’s blessing be upon you. Salām to you. May Allāh not make this the last time I say Salām to you.

A man heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) say: Establish your prayers in full form in Masjid Al-Ḥarām, in the Mosque of the Messenger (s.a.a.w.), in the Mosque of Kūfah, and in the Ḥaram of Ḥusain (a.s.).

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: It is an obligation on those who are poor to go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) once a year and on those who are wealthy to go twice a year.

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: On the fifteenth of Sha’bān, a caller calls out from the highest horizon: O those who have come to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.)! Return forgiven and your rewards will be given (to you) by Allāh, your Lord, and by Muḥammad (s.a.a.w.), your Prophet.

“A prohibition came forbidding visitations to the graveyard in Kadhimiyya and the Shrines. A few months later, the minister called Baqitani said to him, “Tell the people of Bani Furat and village of Bars not to visit the graveyard at Kadhmain, because the caliph has ordered that anyone who comes there must be watched and arrested.”

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: The Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) is equal to performing Hajj twenty times and it is (even) better than performing Hajj twenty times. The above Ḥadīth has also been narrated to me through the following chain: Muḥammad ibn Ya’qūb (Al-Kulayni), from some of his companions, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad, from Muḥammad ibn Sinān, from Ḥusain ibn Mukhtār, from Zayd Al-Shaḥḥām, from Abī ‘Abdillāh (a.s.).

The Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) said: On the Day of Judgment, I will go to the Ziyārah of those who have come to my Ziyārah or the Ziyārah of anyone from my progeny and I will save them from the terrors of that day.

I asked Abā Ja’far (Imam Jawād (a.s.)), “May I sacrifice myself for you! Is (going to) the Ziyārah of Imam Riďā (a.s.) better or (going to) the Ziyārah of Abī ‘Abdillāh, Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.)?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “(Going to) the Ziyārah of my father (a.s.) is better. The reason is that everyone goes to the Ziyārah of Abī ‘Abdillāh (Imam Ḥusain (a.s.)) but only the chosen ones from among the Shia go to the Ziyārah of my father (a.s.).”
