"If a male slave confesses to theft once before the Imam, his hand is to be cut off. Likewise, if a female slave confesses to theft before the Imam, her hand is to be cut off."

“Mention Allah’s Greatness as you wish, but do not discuss His Essence, as He is greater than anything you may mention.”

“Beware of discussing about Allah. Discuss His Reverence, but do not discuss His Essence. Verily, discussing Allah does nothing but lead astray.

“Abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) said, “Why people get the course of adultery?” I said, “I do not know, May Allah take my soul in service for your cause.” He said, “It is because of not paying our al-Khums (one fifth religious dues) except our pure Shi‘a. It helps cleans their birth.”

I asked Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s) to pronounce the name of the Qaim, so that I may recognize him through his name. The Imam said: Aba Khalid, you have asked about a thing and about one such that even if his children had recognized him, they would also have become jealous and have cut him into pieces.

A woman came to the Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) for some need, and he said to her: "Perhaps you are one of those who delay (their husbands)?" She asked: "And who are those who delay, O Messenger of Allah (swt)?" He (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "A woman whose husband calls her for some need, but she keeps delaying him until he becomes drowsy and falls asleep. Such a woman is continuously cursed by the angels until her husband wakes up."

I heard Imam Zainul Abideen (a.s) say: Qaroon dressed in red and Firon used to dress in black; and he used to leave his hair loose and they fell on the two sides of his head; and Almighty Allah sent Musa (a.s) with prophethood. And the sons of so and so (Bani Abbas) also dress in black; and leave their hair loose and they fall on the sides of their heads; and Almighty Allah will also destroy them through his namesake (Musa).

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about a man who leaves ‘Arafat before sunset. He (the Imam) said, ‘He owes one badanah to slaughter on the day of al-Nahr (slaughtering the offering), if unable to do this he must fast for eighteen days in Makkah or on the way or at home.’” (Fatwa best explains Hadith 4 of this Chapter)

"Once a woman came to the Messenger of Allah (sw) for a certain need and he said to her, ‘Perhaps you are of the Musawwifat .’ She asked, ‘And what is the Musawwifat, O Messenger of Allah?’ He replied, ‘It is a woman whose husband calls her for something that he needs but she procrastinates until her husband begins to slumber and goes to sleep. The angels continue cursing her until her husband wakes up.’"

"Should he be killed for the Muslim he murdered?" Imam (as) replied: "Yes." It was then asked: "And if he does not accept Islam?" Imam (as) said: "He will be handed over to the heirs of the murdered person. If they wish, they may kill him, if they wish, they may pardon him, and if they wish, they may enslave him. And if he possesses any tangible wealth, it will be handed over to the heirs of the murdered person along with him."

“O' May I be your devoted servant! When we read the verse: “Whatever misfortune happens to you is because of the things your hands have wrought.” [The Holy Quran: Shura 42:30] does it mean that the misfortunes that happened to the Prophet (a.s) and Ameer al-Momineen (a.s) and the Holy Household were due to sins?” Imam Baqir (a.s) replied: “O' Hamran! Their misfortunes were not due to sins. But their misfortunes were so extensive that they will get rewarded for them.”

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about the testimony of people of other nations if they can be appointed as witness. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, unless no one else can be found, in which case their bearing testimony about a will is permissible, because it is not proper to invalidate the right of a Muslim man and void his will.’”

I asked him about a man who set out to perform tamattu‘ (Umrah followed by Hajj) but did not reach Mecca until the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr). Imam (as) said: "He should remain in Mecca in his state of ihram, cease reciting the Talbiyah upon entering the Haram, perform tawaf of the Kaaba, perform sa‘i, shave his head, and slaughter his sheep. Then he may return to his family." Imam (as) further said: "This applies to one who made a condition with his Lord (azj) at the time of ihram, stating that he would exit ihram wherever he was held back. If he did not make such a condition, then he is required to perform both Hajj and Umrah in the following year."

“I was in the presence of abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) and abu Basir also was there. The Imams (a.s.) said, “David inherited the knowledge of the prophets. Solomon inherited David. Prophet Muhammad (s.a.) inherited Solomon and we inherited Muhammad (s.a.). With us are the pages of Abraham and the tablets of Moses.” Abu Basir then said, “This is the knowledge.” The Imams (a.s.) said, “O abu Muhammad, this is not the knowledge. The knowledge is what happens in the nights and in the days, day after day and hour after hour.”

once Humran asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.) the following. “May Allah take my soul in service for your cause, ‘Why the cases of Ali al-Hassan and al-Husayn (a.s.) come about the way they did? Their rising and coming out for the religion of Allah, the Most Holy, the Most High their suffering and being murdered at the hands of the rebellious devils and their defeat until they all were murdered and defeated.’” Abu Ja‘far (a.s.) then said, “O Humran, Allah, the Most Holy, the Most High had destined it for them. So it was decreed, approved and was made unavoidable. Then He executed it but it all happened with the prior knowledge of the same through the Messenger of Allah. Ali al-Hassan and al-Husayn (a.s.) all rose for the cause of Allah with knowledge of the consequences remained silent whoever of us that remained silent.”

“I wish I was permitted to talk to people three times (about three things) and then Allah might do to me whatever He liked. But it is the will of Allah that we are to be patient and to wait.” Then he recited this Qur’anic verse: “And most certainly you will come to know about it after a time” and then he recited, “And you shall certainly hear from those who have been given the Book before you and from those who are polytheists much annoying talk; and if you are patient and guard (against evil), surely this is one of the affairs (which should be) determined upon).”

I asked Abu Ja'far (as) about a man who was obligated to perform the Hajj of Islam but made a vow of gratitude to send another man to perform Hajj to Mecca on his behalf. The man died before performing the Hajj of Islam and before fulfilling the vow he had made. Imam (as) said: "If he left wealth, the Hajj of Islam should be performed on his behalf from his entire estate, and from one-third of his estate, funds should be allocated to send a man to fulfill the vow he made. In this way, the vow will have been fulfilled. However, if he left only enough wealth for the Hajj of Islam, it should be used for that purpose, and his heir should perform the Hajj of the vow on his behalf, as the vow is akin to a debt upon him."

“The Messenger of Allah once was passing by a man who was planting a plant in his yard. The Holy Prophet stopped and asked, ‘Should I tell you about a plantation that has stronger roots, ripens faster and is of finer fruits?’ The man said, ‘Yes, O Messenger of Allah, tell me about it.’ The Messenger of Allah said, ‘In the morning and evenings say, “Glory belongs to Allah, all praise belongs to Allah, no one deserves to be worshipped except Allah and Allah is greater than can be described.” If you say this, for each time you will have ten trees in paradise of different kinds of fruits. They are (the reward) from perpetually charitable trusts.’ The Imam said that the man then said, ‘I take Allah as witness that my yard is a charitable trust and the needy Muslims are its beneficiaries.’ Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, then revealed the verses of the Holy Quran: ‘For those who spend for the cause of Allah, observe piety, (92:5) and believe in receiving rewards from Allah, (92:6) We shall facilitate the path to bliss’” (92:7)

Shall I not lead you to a plant with the firmest roots, the quickest ripening, the sweetest fruits, and the longest-lasting produce? He said: Of course – may my father and my mother be your sacrifice, O Messenger of Allah. So, he said: When you awake and when you go to sleep, say “may Allah be glorified, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the greatest” (subhanallah, walhamdulillah, wa la ilaha ilallah, wallahu akbar).” If you say that, with each glorification you will have ten trees in Paradise with a variety of fruits – these are from the everlasting, goodly things. He said: So, the man said: I bear you witness, O Messenger of Allah. This wall of mine is a charity given to the poor Muslims of the Ahl al-Suffah. So, Allah revealed, “He who gives and fears and testifies to goodness, We shall surely ease his way to bliss.” (92:5-7)

he heard abu Ja‘far (a.s.) the following to an audience of his companions: “What an strange case is the case with a group of followers! They acknowledge us as the Divine authority over themselves, accept us as their Imam and say that obedience to us is obligatory just as is the case with the Messenger of Allah (sw). They then destroy the veracity of their belief as such and dispute against their own selves due to weakness of their hearts. They then diminish our right and blame those whom Allah has granted evidence to know us as it should be and the (ability) to submit themselves to our Divine authority. Do you not consider that how would Allah, the Most Holy and Most High, make it obligatory to obey those who possess Divine authority over his servants and then hide from them (people who possess Divine authority) the news of the heavens and the earth? How would He cut them off of the sources of knowledge that might come to them to maintain their religion?”
Humran then said to the Imam (a.s.), “May Allah, take my soul in service for your cause, how would you explain the case of the uprising of Ali ibn abu Talib, al-Hassan and al-Husayn (a.s.)? They came out and rose up for the cause of Allah, Whose mention is so Majestic. How much they suffered and how mercilessly were they murdered at the hands of the rebels? They were defeated, murdered and over powered.” Abu Ja‘far (a.s.) then said, “O Humran, Allah, the Most Holy, the Most High, had determined it on them. He had decreed, approved and made it unavoidable though the voluntary manner. He then allowed to take place. It, thus, happened with a pre-existing knowledge that had come to them from the Messenger of Allah. Ali, al-Hassan and al-Husayn (a.s.) rose up for the cause of Allah with full knowledge of the consequences and remained silent from us those who remained silent. Had they, O Humran, when facing what Allah, the Most Holy, the Most High, made them to face and suffer defeat at the hands of the rebels, asked Allah, the Most Holy and Most High, to remove their suffering and would implore Him to destroy the government and kingdom of the rebels, He would have answered their prayers and would grant them relief. In such case the destruction of the governments of the rebels and the ending of their time would take place quicker than the dispersal under a great pressure, of beads threaded together. The suffering, O Humran, that befell them, was not due to sins they committed, nor was it a punishment for a disobedience in which they defied Allah. It was because of the high marvelous position that Allah had prepared and wanted them to reach. Do not let people’s opinions take you away from the right path.”
