Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “There are two guardian angels in the heavens for anyone. They will raise whoever is humble to God, and humiliate whoever is haughty.”

The Lord of the earth is also the Lord of the air. Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, inspires the air and it applies a pressure on the deceased which is greater than the pressure in the grave.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the angel of death examines five times every day the faces of every member of all families regardless of their living in homes built of hairs or fur.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), was asked about the angel of death saying, ‘Is it true, as it is said that he observes the whole earth like a bowl on his palm and stretches his hand to it as he likes?’ He replied, ‘Yes, that is true.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘No one is interrogated in the grave except those whose faith and belief is pure or those whose disbelief is total, others, besides these, are left alone.”’

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said to me: There are four thousand angels by the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) who are disheveled and covered with dust; they cry over him (and will continue to do so) until the Day of Judgment.

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “Gabriel descended upon God's Prophet (a.s) and said: “O' Muhammad! God greets you and says: Do whatever you like since you will reach it; and love whoever you wish since you will separate from him. Live as much as you wish since you will die. O' Muhammad! Night prayer is an honor for a believer, and a believer's honor is dependent upon his tongue.”

“Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘The only ones interrogated in the grave are those whose belief or disbelief is absolute and total.’”

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: What is wrong with you (people)?! Why do you not go to him? – This refers to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.). Verily four thousand angels cry next to him (and will continue to do so) until the Day of Judgment.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When you wake up during the night (for Salah (prayer)) you should brush your teeth; the angel comes and places his mouth over your mouth. Every word you say, he climbs with it to the heaven. Your mouth should have a pleasant smell.’”

“When God loves someone, he appoints an angel to hurt him so that he prays to God, and God hears his voice. When God is angry with someone, He appoints an angel to keep him free from trouble so that he does not call God in prayer since God does not like him to pray and ask him for something.”

Abu Abdullah (asws) said: ‘O Abu Muhammad! Allah (azwj) Mighty and Majestic has Angels who cut off the sins from the backs of our (asws) Shites just like the cutting by the wind of the leaves from the tree in the season of autumn and that is the Statement of the Mighty and Majestic: “[40:7] hymn the praises of their Lord and believe in Him and ask forgiveness for those who believe”, and Allah (azwj) has not Intended by this other than you’.

“Abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) has said, ‘When all that happened to al-Husayn had happened, the angels wept and cried before Allah and said, “How such thing would happen to al-Husayn Your chosen one and the grand son of Your Prophet?” The Imam (a.s.) has said that Allah then showed to them the shadow of Al-Qa’im (the one who will rise with Divine Authority) and said, “Through him I will take My revenge.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one, for the sake of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, fasts on a very hot day, causing him to experience a great deal of thirst, Allah assigns a thousand angels for his safety who wipe his face until he discontinues his fast.’ Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, then says, ‘How fine is your fragrance and spirit! O My angels, bear witness that I have granted him forgiveness.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one, for the sake of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, fasts on a very hot day, causing him to experience a great deal of thirst, Allah assigns a thousand angels for his safety who wipe his face until the time he discontinues his fast. Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, then says, “How fine is your fragrance and spirit! O My angels, bear witness that I have granted him forgiveness.””’

Abu Abdullah (asws) said that: ‘The servant has the opportunity (to seek forgiveness) until he reaches at the age of forty years. So when he reaches at the age of forty years, Allah (azwj) Reveals to His (azwj) two Angels: “I (azwj) have Let My (azwj) servant to get to this age, so stringent and be more strict with him and write down all from little, big, less, more from his deeds.

15. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) said, “Surely four thousand angels having their hair covered in mud and in distressed state will mourn at the grave of Imam Husain (a.s.) till the Day of Judgment. The name of their leader is Mansur. He welcomes the person who comes for Ziyarat. These angels won’t separate from that person. If he falls ill they will treat him, if he dies they attend his funeral prayer and repent for him after his death.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Four thousand angels assigned for the grave of al- Husayn, Alayhi al-Salam, are untidy and dusty. They weep for him until the Day of Judgment. Their chief is an angel called Mansur. They welcome everyone who visits him and escort everyone who says farewell to him. They visit everyone of such visitors if he becomes ill, perform funeral salat (prayer) for those of them who die, and ask forgiveness for him after his death.’”

2. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) says, “One who offers Salaat after saying Azaan and Iqamah two rows of angels pray behind him. If a person offers Salaat after saying Iqamah only, one row of angels prays behind him.” The narrator asked, “How wide is that row?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “The shortest is from east to west and the longest from earth to heaven.”

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: (On the day of ‘Āshūrā) four thousand angels came down to fight for Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.) but he did not give them permission to fight. So they returned to seek permission (from Allāh) and (shortly thereafter), they came down. However, Ḥusain (a.s.) had already been killed. (Now) these angels are by his grave, disheveled and covered with dust, and they cry over him (and will continue to do so) until the Day of Judgment. Their chief is an angel named Mansūr.
