I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) about the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.). Imam (a.s.) said, “(Go) once a year because I do not want you to be identified.”

Ja’far ibn Muḥammad (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Allāh will forgive the past and future sins of those who go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) on the night of the fifteenth of Sha’bān. Allāh will register the reward of one thousand accepted Hajj and one thousand purified ‘Umrah for those who go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) on the Day of ‘Arafah. Those who go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) on the Day of ‘Āshūrā, it is as if they have gone to the Ziyārah of Allāh on top of His Throne.

Ja’far ibn Muḥammad Al-Sādiq (a.s.) said: Allāh will forgive the past and future sins of those who go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) on the night of the fifteenth of Sha’bān. Allāh will register the reward of one thousand accepted Hajj and one thousand purified ‘Umrah for those who go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) on the Day of ‘Arafah. Those who go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) on the Day of ‘Āshūrā, it is as if they have gone to the Ziyārah of Allāh on top of His Throne. The above Ḥadīth has also been narrated to me through the following chain: Muḥammad ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Ja’far, from his father ‘Abdillāh ibn Ja’far Al-Ḥimyari, from Muḥammad ibn Ḥusain, from Ḥamdān ibn Mu’āfā, from Ibn Abī ‘Umayr, from Zayd Al-Shaḥḥām, from Abī ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)).

God’s Prophet (S) said, “Soon one of my own flesh and blood will be buried in the land of Khorasan. Any believer who goes on pilgrimage to his shrine will be rewarded by God. Heaven will be guaranteed for him and his body will be secure from the Fire of Hell.”

I heard Ja’far ibn Muḥammad (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) say: Those who go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) in the month of Ramaďan and die on their route will not be judged (on the Day of Judgment), their book of deeds will not be published, and they will be told, “Enter Paradise safely.”

I heard Abu Abdullah (Ja‘far ibn Muhammad), Abu al-Hasan (Imam Musa ibn Jafar Al-Kadhim), and Abu al-Hasan (Imam Ali ibn Musa Ar-Ridha (as)) all saying: "Whoever visits the grave of Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as) on the Day of Arafah, Allah (swt), the Exalted, will turn their heart into one of contentment and tranquility."

I asked Abāl Ḥasan (Imam Kāżim (a.s.)) about establishing voluntary prayers next to the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.), in Makkah, and in Madīnah as a Muqassir. Imam (a.s.) replied, “You can establish as many voluntary prayers as you like as a Muqassir next to his grave, in Masjid Al-Ḥarām, in the Mosque of the Messenger (s.a.a.w.), and in the (holy) sites of the Prophet (s.a.a.w.). Verily this is a blessing.” The above Ḥadīth has also been narrated to me through the following chains: A) ‘Ali ibn Ḥusain, from ‘Ali ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Hāshim, from his father, from Ibn Abī ‘Umayr, and from Ibrāhīm ibn ‘Abdil Ḥamīd, from Abil Ḥasan (a.s.). B) My father, from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Ḥasan ibn Mūsā Al-Khashāb, from Ja’far ibn Muḥammad ibn Ḥakīm Al-Khath’ami, from Ibrāhīm ibn ‘Abdil Ḥamīd, from Abil Ḥasan (a.s.).

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: (Entering) Paradise is made mandatory for those who go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) on the Day of ‘Āshūrā.

Abul Ḥasan Mūsā (Imam Kāżim (a.s.)) said to me, “I love for you that which I love for myself and I hate for you that which I hate for myself. Establish prayers in full form in the two Ḥarams, in (the Mosque of) Kūfah, and next to the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.).”

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: There is a grave near you to which no anguished person goes without Allāh removing his anguish and fulfilling his requests.

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: It is an obligation on those who are wealthy to go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) twice a year and on those who are poor to go once a year.

“Whenever any of you finish your Hajj pilgrimage to the Kaaba, come to (Khorasan to) complete your Hajj pilgrimage by visiting us (i.e. Ar-Ridha’’s (a.s.) shrine). This indeed will complete the Hajj.”

“My father (a.s.) informed me that God will record the name of anyone who visits the shrine of Al-Husayn ibn Ali (a.s.) and recognizes his (a.s.) rightfulness in the book called Illiyyeen.” He (a.s.) added, “Indeed there are seventy-thousand angels with dusty hair around the shrine who cry for him all the way to the Resurrection Day.”

Abu Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)) said to a man: O so-and-so! What prevents you at times of need from going to the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.), praying four Rak’ah, and then asking (Allāh) for your needs?! Verily establishing an obligatory prayer next to his grave is equal to performing a Hajj and establishing a Nāfilah prayer (next to his grave) is equal to performing an ‘Umrah.

I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) about (the reward for) going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.). Imam (a.s.) replied, “It is equal to one Hajj and one ‘Umrah and this much reward.” Um Sa’īd added that the Imam (a.s.) stretched open his arms and closed them (three times).

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: If you are close (in proximity) to him – referring to Ḥusain (a.s.) – and it is possible to perform Ghusl before going to him, do so. Otherwise, perform Wuďū and then go to him.

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Those who go to (the Ziyārah of) Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.) and perform Wuďū and Ghusl with the water of the Euphrates (River) do not raise their foot or place it down without Allāh registering a Hajj and an ‘Umrah for them.

Abū ‘Abdillāh, Ja’far ibn Muḥammad Al-Sādiq (a.s.) said: The days spent by those who go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) are not counted as part of their lives; they do not reduce from their time (to death).

Ja’far ibn Muḥammad (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Allāh will register the reward of one thousand Hajj and one thousand ‘Umrah and the reward of fighting one thousand times with one of Allāh’s messengers for those who go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) on the Day of ‘Arafah while knowing his rights. And surely Allāh forgives those who go to his Ziyārah on the first day of Rajab.

I went for Hajj one year. Then, I went to Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). So, he said: Where were you, O Mushma`il? So, I said: May I be your sacrifice! I was on Hajj. So, he said: Do you know how many good deeds a pilgrim receives? So, I said: I do not know until you teach me. So, he said: When a worshiper makes seven circuits around this House, prays two units, and performs the sa`i between Safa and Marwa, Allah records six thousand good deeds for him, erases six thousand sins from him, raises him by six thousand levels, fulfills six thousand of his needs in this world, and saves the same amount for [his needs in] the Hereafter. So, I said to him: May I be your sacrifice! This is a lot! He said: Shall I not inform you of something that is more [rewarding] than that? He said: I said: Of course. So, he (as) said: Fulfilling a need of a believing person is better than a Hajj, another Hajj, another Hajj – until he counted ten Hajj [pilgrimages].
