“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, disliked slaughtering (animals) and spilling blood on Fridays before Salat (prayer) except in the case of an emergency.’”

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘Testimony of the following people is not acceptable. (Of such people is) one who plays dice, (backgammon), or the game played with fourteen pieces of tokens and a friend (player) of Shahayn (the two kings) which means chess who says, ‘No, by Allah and yes by Allah. His king by Allah is dead and his king is killed but it is not dead or killed.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin prohibited a man’s fishing on Fridays before Salat (prayer). He (a.s.), would go to the fish market on Fridays and prohibit them from fishing on Fridays before Friday Salat (prayer).”’

“I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), that a domestic hen without a roster feeds on dump site and so on and gives eggs without mating with a rooster. ‘What do you say about such an egg and if such egg is edible? He (the Imam) said to me, ‘If such egg is from an edible bird it is not unlawful and eating it is permissible.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘I do not know of anything more beneficial against poisoning than sawiq of apples.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Al-Hawk (sweet basil) is the herb of the Prophets. There are eight qualities in it; It is pleasant, opens up blockages, makes burping pleasant, freshens one’s breath, increases appetite for food, pulls out illness and it is protection against leprosy and when it settles down in one’s stomach it suppresses illness.’”

narrated to me Najabah ibn al-Harith al-‘ Attar who has said the following: “I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about fasting on the day of ‘Ashura’ (tenth of Muharram). He (the Imam) said, ‘It is a discarded fast after the coming of the month of Ramadan, and what is discarded and abandoned is heresy.’ Najabah has said that I then asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), after his father about it and he answered me just like the answer of his father. He (the Imam) then said, ‘It is a fast about which there is nothing in the book or an established Sunnah except the Sunnah of the family of Ziyad for their murdering al-Husayn ibn Ali (a.s.).’”

“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, sawiq of lintels calms down thirst, makes the stomach strong and there is cure for seventy illnesses in it. It abolishes yellowish fluid and gives coolness to the stomach. He (the Imam) would not travel without it. He (the Imam) said that when blood becomes excited with any of one’s associates, he (the Imam) said, ‘Drink sawiq of lintels because it calms down the excitement of blood and extinguishes the heat.’”*

“Sneezing is beneficial to all parts of the body if it is not more than three times, if it is more than three times then it is an illness and disease.’”

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, in answer to a question, ’How was Friday called Friday?’ The Imam said, ’Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, brought His creatures under the Divine Authority of Muhammad (a.s.), and the Executor of his will during “the divine Covenant session”, and that session was called “al-Jumu‘ah” (the assembly) because of His calling His creatures together.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali (a.s.), would not allow the testimony of a wage worker.’”

I said to Abu Abdullah as-Sadiq (as): Someone believes in the guardianship of Ali (as) and exempts himself from Ali’s enemy. He believes in everything that Ali (as) has said but he says: They have disagreed among themselves whereas they are the leading imams. I do not know which of them is the imam. If they agree upon a certain one, I will submit to him. I have believed that the imamate is among them. Abu Abdullah as-Sadiq (as) said: “If this someone still thinks so, he will die as an unbeliever. The Qur’an has interpretations that occur as the day and the night and they run as the sun and the moon. If an interpretation of something comes, it will occur. Some interpretations have come and some have not come yet.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Feed bread of rice to a person suffering from diarrhea; nothing else is more useful for such a sufferer than this, it also tans (treats) the stomach and dispels the pain sufficiently.’”

“Abu al-Hassan, al-Awwal (a.s.), has said, ‘Feed one who is suffering from fever with the meat of al-Qabaj (a kind of partridge) because it strengthens the legs and dispels fever completely.’”

“Muhammad ibn Hakim narrated to me that he had heard abu al-Hassan (a.s.), say, ‘Performing two Salah (prayer) soon one after the other is when no optional Salah (prayer) is performed between them. When optional Salah (prayer) is performed between them, they are not performed soon one after the other.’”

“I once heard abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘The flesh of Rowan, mountain ash berry grows flesh, its bones grow bones and its peels grow skin, besides it warms up kidneys, tans (cleanses) the stomach and it is protection against hemorrhoid and al-Taqtir (intense anger, stint). It brings firmness to the legs and uproots the vein of leprosy.”’

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a large cooking pot with a large amount of meat and broth in it and a drop of wine or al-Nabidh is dropped therein. He (the Imam) said, ’It must be thrown away or fed to the taxpayers or dogs. You can wash the meat and eat it.’ I then asked about what happens if one drop of blood is dropped in it. ’The fire, if Allah wills, eats the blood,’ said the Imam. I then asked about if wine or al-Nabidh by a drop is dropped in flour dough or a drop of blood. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is destroyed.’ I then asked if I can sell it to Jews or Christians and tell all about it because they consider drinking it lawful.’ He (the Imam) said, ’Yes, you can do so.’ I then asked about al-Fuqa‘ (beer) if it is like wine, and al-Nabidh when one drop of it is dropped in something. He (the Imam) said, ‘I do not like to eat it if anything thereof is dropped in my food.’”

“Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’ (a.s.), has said, ‘All intoxicating substances are unlawful, everything fermented is unlawful, and al-Fuqa’ (beer) is unlawful.’”

“Abu Abdullah as-Sadiq (as) said: “As if I see al-Qa’im standing on the hill of Najaf, wearing a dress of brocade and the armor of the Prophet (S) and riding a black horse. He will spread the Prophet’s banner, whose pole is from the poles of the Throne of Allah and whose rest is from the assistance of Allah. Whatever he swoops on with the banner Allah will make it perish.” I said: “Has the banner been hidden somewhere or it will be brought then?” He said: “Gabriel (as) will bring it. When he shakes it, every believer’s heart will become like iron. He will be given a power of forty men. Then every dead believer will feel happy in his grave. The dead will begin to visit each other in their graves and they bring the good news of the appearance of al-Qa’im to each other. Thirteen thousand and three hundred and thirteen angels will descend with al-Qa’im then.” I asked: “Have these angels been with any of the prophets before him (al-Qa’im)?” He said: “Yes, they have been with Prophet Noah (as) in the Ark, with Abraham (as) when he has been thrown into the fire, with Moses (as) when the sea has been cleft to him, with Jesus Christ (as) when he has been raised to the Heaven besides four thousands, who have been with Prophet Muhammad (as), three hundred and thirteen angels, who have supported the Prophet (S) on the day of Badr and four thousands, who have asked permission to fight with al-Husayn (as) but they have not been permitted. They have descended to find that al-Husayn (as) has been Martyred. They have remained near his tomb weeping for him until the Day of Resurrection. Their chief is an angel called Mansoor. They receive every visitor coming to visit al-Husayn (as), escort everyone farewelling him, visit every sick person and no one dies unless they offer the prayer for him and ask Allah to forgive him after his death. All these angels are waiting for the appearance of al-Qa’im (as).”

“Once a man complained before abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about vitiligo (white spots on one’s skin) and he (the Imam) commanded him to cook al-Mash then drink it and make it a part of his food.”
