عبد الله بن بكير بن أعين

Hadith.151 - Abdullah ibn Bakir asked Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) about a man who wears a garment with janabah (ritual impurity from sexual activity) and sweats in it. Imam (as) said: 'The garment does not make the man ritually impure.'.

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘Of recitations and prayers, only such recitations and prayers are counted which one has made his own self to hear.’”

“One of the two Imam, (abu Ja’far or abu ‘Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said, ‘Pebbles were thrown on all of them.’ I then asked, ‘Can I throw on all of them?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘No, do you not like to do as I do?”’

“The Messenger of God (ṣ) has ten names, five of which appear in the Qurʾān and five of which do not. As for the ones which appear in the Qurʾān, they are Muḥammad (ṣ), Aḥmad, ʿAbd Allāh, Yāsīn, and Nūn, and as for the ones which do not appear in the Qurʾān, they are al-Fātiḥ, al-Khātim, al-Kāfī, al-Muqaffī, and al-Ḥāshir.”

Islam is founded upon ten pillars as follows: bearing witness that ‘There is no god but God’ - that is the basis of a Muslim’s nationality; prayer which is an obligatory deed; fasting which is a shield against the fire; payment of the alms-tax which purifies one’s possessions; going on the Hajj pilgrimage which is a decree; participating in holy war which is an honor; enjoining to do good deeds which is persistence in belief; admonishing against the bad deeds which is giving an ultimatum; attending congregational prayers which results in mutual sympathy; and avoiding sins which is the basis of obedience.”

I went with Bukayr and a man from the descendants of Ali to the sacred sites until we reached Uhud. He showed us the graves of the martyrs, then led us into the valley. We walked with him for a while until we arrived at a mosque, where he said: "The Messenger of Allah (saw) prayed here," so we prayed there. Then he showed us a place at the top of a mountain and said: "The Prophet (saw) climbed this and found rainwater here." Zurara said: It occurred to me that the Messenger of Allah (saw) would not have climbed to fetch water. So I said: "I will not continue with you. I will sleep here until you return." He and Bukayr went and then came back to me, and we all returned together. The next day, we visited Abu Ja'far (as), who asked us: "Where were you yesterday? I did not see you." We informed him and described to him the mosque and the place where it was claimed the Prophet (saw) had climbed and washed his face. Abu Ja'far said: "The Messenger of Allah (saw) never went to that place." We then said: "It has been narrated to us that his tooth was broken." He replied: "No, Allah took him back whole, but his face was injured. He sent Ali, who brought water in a shield, but the Messenger of Allah (saw) refused to drink from it and only washed his face."

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the meaning of: ‘there is no vow and commitment in sinful matters’. He (the Imam) said, ‘Whatever is beneficial to you in the worldly matters or the hereafter, there is no violation in it.’”

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘Al-Muzdalifah had more insects than other lands of Allah. On the night of al-Tarwiyah, it was announced from Allah, ‘O insects, move away from where delegations to Allah are about to pass.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘The insects move in the hills in a way that they are not seen. When al-Hajj (pilgrims) return, they come back.’”

I saw Aba Abdullah as-Sadiq (MGB) and heard him start his prayer with seven continuous Takbirs (saying God is Great).”

I asked Aba Ja’far عليه السلام about the words of Allah Mighty and Majestic: “When your Lord took from the Children of Adam from their backs their descendants and made them bear witness against their own selves - am I not your Lord? They said: Indeed” (7:172). He said: The Ma’rifa (Recognition) was confirmed but they forgot the time (when this episode occurred) and they will come to remember it one day. If it were not for that no one would know who his Creator is nor who his Sustainer is.

I asked Aba Ja’far عليه السلام about the words of Allah Mighty and Majestic: “as ruled by two just men among you” (5:95) – he said: the just man is the messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله and the Imam after him, then he said: this is among that which the scribes made a mistake in.

"If a man has a slave and frees him, knowing that the slave has wealth, and the master did not exclude the wealth at the time of freeing him, then the wealth belongs to the slave."

There are four things for which there will be a quick chastisement. The chastisement for one who does you evil, although you did him well; the chastisement of one whom you did not oppress, but he oppresses you; the chastisement of one who makes a pledge to you with the intention of breaking it, while you intend to honor it; and the chastisement of one whom you visit, but he breaks off the ties of kinship.”

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), ‘Did you meet al-Husayn (a.s.) ?’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘Yes, I remember when I was with him in the Sacred Masjid while the flood had entered it. People stood on the station of Ibrahim and those coming out said, “The flood has moved the station away,” and others when coming out said, “The station is in place.’” He (the Imam) said that he (al-Husayn) asked me, “O so and so, what do they say?” I replied, “I pray to Allah to keep you well. They are afraid and say, ‘The flood may have taken away the ‘station’” He (Imam al-Husayn) said, “Announce this, ‘Whatever Allah, most High, has made a banner (a light house), He does not take it away. So you must calm down.’” The place of the station as Ibrahim had designated was near the wall of the House, and it remained there until people of the time of ignorance moved it to the place where it is today. When the Holy Prophet liberated Makkah, he returned it to its original place where Ibrahim had placed it. It remained there until ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab took charge. He asked people, “Who among you knows the place of the station where it was before?” A man said, “I know it. I had taken its measurement on a belt and I have kept it with me.” He (‘Umar) said, “Bring it for me.” He brought it to him and he measured it, and then returned it to that place.’”

“The Messenger of Allah (sw) performed the Dhuhr and ‘Asr prayers when the sun declined (toward the west at noontime) in congregation without any reason. He also performed the Maghrib and Isha’ prayers in congregation before disappearing of al-Shafaq (redness) without any reason to do so. The Messenger of Allah (sw) did so to make it easier for his followers.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘The effects of unlawful earning shows up in one’s offspring.’”

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), if loan attracted benefits. He (the Imam) said, ‘The best loan is that which attracts benefits.’”

"I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who has bailed out another man and has reached a settlement with him.’ He (the Imam) said, ’He can only have the actual amount the man owes to him.”’

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about how much is lawful for a woman to give as charity from the house of her husband without his permission. He (the Imam) replied, ‘It is al-Ma’dum (sauce, curry or gravy).”’

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said that a man once visited Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.), and found him sitting on a camel-load of date stones. He asked, ‘What is it on which you are sitting, O abu al-Hassan?’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘It is a hundred thousand palm trees, by the will of Allah.’ He planted them and not one date stone failed sprouting.’”
