2. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) says, “The state of a slave nearest to his Lord is the state of prostration.”

Everything in this book that is narrated from Zayd Al-Shahham has been transmitted by me from my father and from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan - may Allah (swt) be pleased with them both - from Sa'd ibn Abdullah, from Muhammad ibn Abdul Hamid, from Abu Jamilah, from Zayd Al-Shahham Abu Usamah.

Zayd al-Shuh'ham quoted upon the authority of Imam Sadiq (a.s): “O' Zayd! Be patient with your enemies since you can never fight with those rebelling against God except by obeying Him. God will keep his believing servants away from evil, as you separate a strange female camel that does not belong to you from your male camels. O' Zayd! God has chosen and has established Islam. Therefore treat the people gently and with kindness.”

“I told Abū ʿAbdillāh (a), ‘I only get to meet you once every few years, so give me some advice that I can adopt [in the meantime].’ He said, ‘I advise you to be mindful of Allah, to espouse piety, and struggle [for the sake of Allah]. And beware of aspiring to the position of one who is above you. Indeed, what Allah, to Whom belong might and majesty, told the Messenger of Allah (ṣ) [about this] is sufficient: So do not be impressed by their wealth and children (Q9:55). And He said: And do not extend your gaze [yearningly] at what We have provided their groups of the embellishment of the life of this world (Q20:131). Indeed, if you fear any of this [happening to you] then recall the life of the Messenger of Allah (ṣ),

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘A woman experiencing Hayd (menses) should take Wudu’ at the time of each Salah (prayer), face the direction of Ka’bah and speak of Allah for a period of time equal to a period of time Salah (prayer) is performed.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Women experiencing Hayd (menses), childbirth and one involved in sexual activities (because of which Ghusl (bath) is obligatory) can read al-Quran.’”

“About a man who doubts and does not know if he has performed one or two Sajdah (prostrations), abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘He performs one more Sajdah (prostration).”’

“I once took a slave-girl to abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam. He (the Imam) bargained and I also bargained very hard. I then sold her to him (the Imam) and he (the Imam) shook my hand and I said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, I bargained hard to see if it was permissible or not and I said, “I reduce the price by ten dinar.’” He (the Imam) said, ‘Never, however, this could have happened before shaking hands. Have you not heard the words of the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, “Asking for reduction after handshake is unlawful”?”’

“Once I said to Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) ‘I can visit you only once every several years. Teach me, please, something to which I can hold.’ The Imam said, ‘I advise you to be pious before Allah, restrain from worldly matters (sins) and work hard. Note it properly that hard work without restraint from worldly matters is of no benefit.’”

“I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘There is a merchant who procrastinates in performing al-Hajj. He (the Imam) said, ‘If he does it without good reason, he has violated one of the laws of al-Islam.’”

“I asked Abi Abdullah (as-Sadiq) (a.s.), ‘What is there for one who visits one of you (the 12 Imams)?’ The UImam (a.s.) replied, ’It is as if he has visited God’s Prophet (S).’”

"Let him leave, wipe his head, and repeat the prayer."

This is like a man’s guarding his death,' (Futility of Guardian against death). When the Imam moved away, the wall crumbled. The Imam said, ‘Amir al-Mu’minin (Ali ibn abu Talib) (a.s.) would often do such and similar things and that was because of certainty.’”

al-Sadiq (a.s) said: When Allah loves a person, He turns people against him.

“This is about the meaning of the words of Allah, the Most Majestic and Most Glorious, ‘If one goes back, Allah subjects him to His retaliation.’(5:95) Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) has said that a man in the state of Ihram captured a fox. He then began to bring fire close to the fox’s face, which made it nervous and it released gas from its behind. His friends told him to stop what he was doing; thereafter he set the fox free. When this man went to sleep, a snake came and entered in his mouth and it remained there until he begun to release gas as the fox had done; then the snake left him.”’

I asked Abu Abdillah (as) about a man who purchases shares from butchers before the shares are distributed. Imam (as) said: "If he purchases a share, then he has the option to accept or reject it when it is distributed."

I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)), “What is the reward for those who go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.)?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “They are like those who have gone to the Ziyārah of Allāh on His Throne.” I asked, “What is the reward for those who go to the Ziyārah of any of you (the Imams (a.s.))?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “They are like those who have gone to the Ziyārah of the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.).”

I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)), “What is the reward for those who go to the Ziyārah of one of you (the Imams (a.s.))?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “They are like those who have gone to the Ziyārah of the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.).” The above Ḥadīth has also been narrated to me through the following chain: My father, from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Muḥammad ibn Ḥusain, from Muḥammad ibn Ismā’īl ibn Bazī’, from Sāliḥ ibn ‘Uqbah, from Zayd Al-Shaḥḥām, from Abī ‘Abdillāh (a.s.).

If a sheep drinks wine until it is drunk, then is slaughtered in that condition, the contents of its inside are not edible.’”

“I once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), ’What is the reward for one who visits anyone of you?’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘It is like visiting the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause.”’
