267. Ja’far Bin Basheer, from Ruzeyq, who has reported the following: Abu Abdullah (asws) has said: ‘Lightning does not occur at all in the darkness of the night or the light of the day unless it is raining’.

Everything in this book that is narrated from Hafs ibn Salim has been transmitted by me from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Sa'd ibn Abdullah, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-Khattab, from Ja'far ibn Bashir, from Hammad ibn 'Uthman, from Hafs Abu Wallad ibn Salim Al-Kufi, who was a freed servant (mawla).

Everything in this book that is narrated from Yaqub ibn Shuayb has been transmitted by me from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Al-Hasan ibn Matil, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-Khattab, from Jafar ibn Bashir, from Hammad ibn Uthman, from Yaqub ibn Shuayb ibn Maytham Al-Asadi, who was a freed servant (mawla) and a Kufan.

Everything in this book that is narrated from Al-Fadl ibn Abdul Malik has been transmitted by me from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Sa'd ibn Abdullah, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-Khattab, from Ja'far ibn Bashir, from Hammad ibn 'Uthman, from Al-Fadl ibn Abdul Malik, who was known as Abu Al-Abbas Al-Baqbaq Al-Kufi.

Everything in this book that is narrated from Abd Al-Ala, the freed servant of Al-Sam, has been transmitted by me from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Al-Hasan ibn Matil, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-Khattab, from Jafar ibn Bashir, from Khalid ibn Abi Ismail, from Abd Al-Ala, the freed servant of Al-Sam.

Everything in this book that is narrated from Salih ibn Al-Hakam has been transmitted by me from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Sa'd ibn Abdullah, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn Abi Al-Khattab, from Ja'far ibn Bashir, from Hammad ibn 'Uthman, from Salih ibn Al-Hakam Al-Ahwal.

Everything in this book that is narrated from Al-Hasan ibn Al-Sirri has been transmitted by me from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Al-Hasan ibn Matil Al-Daqqaq, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-Khattab, from Ja'far ibn Bashir, from Al-Hasan ibn Al-Sirri.

And whatever is narrated from Imran Al-Halabi, I have narrated it from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Sad ibn Abdullah, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-Khattab, from Jafar ibn Bashir, from Hammad ibn Uthman, from Imran Al-Halabi, whose kunyah is Abu Al-Fadl.

And whatever is narrated from Abd Al-Ṣamad ibn Bashir, I have narrated it from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Al-Hasan ibn Matil Al-Daqqaq, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-Khaṭṭab, from Jafar ibn Bashir, from Abd Al-Ṣamad ibn Bashir Al-Kufi.

And whatever is narrated from Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al-Juʿfi, I have narrated it from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Saʿd ibn Abdullah, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-Khaṭṭab, from Jafar ibn Bashir, from Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al-Juʿfi.

And whatever is narrated from Al-Ṣabah ibn Siyabah, I have narrated it from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan Al-Ṣaffar, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-Khaṭṭab, from Jafar ibn Bashir Al-Bajali, from Hammad ibn Uthman, from Al-Ṣabah ibn Siyabah, the brother of Abd Al-Rahman ibn Siyabah Al-Kufi.

Everything in this book that is narrated from Jafar ibn Bashir Al-Bajali has been transmitted by me from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Sad ibn Abdullah, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-Khattab, from Jafar ibn Bashir Al-Bajali.

And whatever is narrated from Idris ibn Abdullah Al-Qummi, I have narrated it from my father - may Allah (swt) have mercy on him - from Saʿd ibn Abdullah, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-Khaṭṭab, from Jafar ibn Bashir, from Hammad ibn Uthman, from Idris ibn Abdullah ibn Saʿd Al-Ashari Al-Qummi.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘If one hears a person’s sneezing and praises Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, and asks Allah to grant al-Salat (favors) upon Muhammad and the Ahl al-Bayt (family of Muhammad), he will not suffer from a toothache or eye trouble.’ The Imam then said, ‘When you hear it (sneezing) respond to it even if there is an ocean between you and the person sneezing.’”

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: O Fuďayl! How negligent you people are!!! You do not go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.)!!! Do you not know that there are four thousand angels who are disheveled and covered with dust who continuously cry over Ḥusain (a.s.) (and will continue to do so) until the Day of Judgment?

Abū Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)) asked, “What is the distance between you and the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.)?” I replied, “Sixteen or seventeen parasangs.” Imam (a.s.) asked, “Do you not go to him?” I replied, “No.” Imam (a.s.) said, “How negligent you (people) are!!!”

On three occasions one is prayed for in the plural although he is singular. The first occasion is when one sneezes. They tell him ‘Yarhamakumullah that means ‘May God have Mercy upon you’ as if someone else is with him. The second occasion is when one greets others. They return his greeting by saying ‘Assalumalaykum as if others are with him. The third occasion is when one prays for someone else to be healed and says ‘Afakumullah as if he is praying for more than one person.”The compiler of the book - may God increase his honor - said, “They say ‘Yarhamakumullah to the opponents once they sneeze which refers to the two appointed accompanying angels, but say ‘Yarhamakullah to a believer when he sneezes.”

‘I said to Abu Abdullah (a.s), ‘How do you read “[9:118] And to the three who were left behind”. He said; ‘Had they been left behind (Khulifu), they would be in a state of obedience. But, they opposed (Khaalafu) – Usman and his two companions (Abu Bakr and Umar). But, by Allah (azwj), they did not hear the sound of hooves, or the rumble of the pebbles except that they said, ‘They are coming for us!’ Allah (azwj) Made fear to overcome them until the morning’.

‘I accompanied Abu Abdullah (asws). He (asws) said to me: ‘Read’. So I opened a Chapter from the Quran and recited it. He (asws) became soft-hearted and wept, then said: ‘O Abu Asama! Nurture your hearts by the Mention of Allah (azwj) Mighty and Majestic, ‘وَ احْذَرُوا النَّكْتَ’ and be cautious of the instigation, for it comes upon the heart once or for many hours of doubt in the morning when there is neither belief nor disbelief in the heart, like a worn out piece of cloth or the decayed bone. O Abu Asama! Is it not that sometimes you inspect your heart, so you neither remember neither any good nor any evil by it, and nor do you know where it is?’ I said to him (asws), ‘Yes, it has happened to me, and I have seen it happen to the people’. He (asws) said: ‘Yes, everyone is exposed to it. So if it is like that remember Allah (azwj) Mighty and Majestic, ‘وَ احْذَرُوا النَّكْتَ’ and be cautious of the instigation, for if He (azwj) Intends good for a servant, Instigates belief, and if He (azwj) Intends by it other than that, Instigates other than that’. I said, ‘What is other than that, may I be sacrificed for you (asws), what is it?’ He (asws) said: ‘If He (azwj) Intends infidelity, infidelity is instigated’.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘The longer chapters of the Holy Quran were given to me as alternative to Torah, the chapters of one hundred verses in place of Injil, al-Mathani (Chapter 1) in place of al-Zabbur, in addition I was favored with sixty eight detailed chapters. It is dominant over other books, Torah was for Moses, Injil for Jesus and al-Zabur for David.’”
