8. Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) says: There is nothing more rewarding than the testimony of ‘There is no God except Allah’ because Allah has not appointed anything equal to it and there is no partner of Allah in this matter.

1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) narrates from his predecessors that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “One who performs four deeds, becomes deserving of a great light of Allah. They are: testifying that there is no Lord except Allah and I am His prophet, saying Innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilaihi raaji-oo’n at the time of difficulty, saying Alh’amdulillaah on hearing a good news and saying Astaghfirullaah on committing a sin.”

3. The narrator was in the company of Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) and there were about fifty people sitting there. After a long pause, Imam (a.s.) prompted, “What has happened to you? Probably you are thinking that I am a prophet of Allah. I swear by Allah that it is not so and I am in relation with the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) and I am from his progeny. Whoever does good to us will receive goodness from God. Allah will love one who loves us. Allah will deprive one who deprives us. Do you know which part of land is best in position near Allah?” Everyone remained silent. Imam (a.s.) continued, “This holy Mecca is the land most liked by Allah. He made it His Sanctuary and considered it as His house. Do you know which part of Mecca is most honored?” Everyone remained silent and Imam (a.s.) replied himself, “Masjidul Haraam is the most honored part of Mecca. Do you know which place of Masjidul Haraam is most honored by Allah?” Everyone kept quiet and Imam (a.s.) replied himself once again, “That place is between rukn-e-Aswad, maqaam-e-Ibrahim and the door of Kaaba. This is the place of Hateem of Ismail. He had given his sacrifice over here and offered Salaat. I swear by Allah that one who offers prayers at this place standing all night and fasts during day but if he is unaware of our rights and greatness of we, Ahle Bayt, Allah will never accept any of his deeds.”

1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) narrates from his ancestors that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “A person who laughs while committing a sin will enter Hell weeping.”

2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Hajjal and al-Hassan ibn Ali from Ali ibn Asbat, from certain individuals of our people that he did not disembark for rest where the Holy Prophet had rested. Al-Rida (a.s.), commanded him to go back and do what he was supposed to do.”

1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) narrates from his predecessors that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “The deed that is rewarded soon is a good action and the deed punished soon is injustice. The deed is bad enough when a person sees faults in others but is blind as far as his self is concerned and he advises people to avoid sins but does not avoid them himself and if he troubles with useless talk those who sit with him.”

1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) said, “One who takes Allah’s oath knowing that he is lying, it is as if he has waged a war against Allah.”

1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) narrates that Imam Zainul Abideen (a.s.) said, “One who gives Sadaqah to a destitute and the latter supplicates for the former his supplications are accepted immediately.”

Everything in this book that is narrated from Abd Al-Malik ibn Utbah Al-Hashimi has been transmitted by me from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Sad ibn Abdullah, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-Khattab, from Al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Faddal, from Muhammad ibn Abi Hamzah, from Abd Al-Malik ibn Utbah Al-Hashimi.

Everything in this book that is narrated from Ibrahim ibn Abi Yahya Al-Mada'ini has been transmitted by me from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan Al-Saffar, from Muhammad ibn Abd Al-Jabbar, from Al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Faddal, from Zharif ibn Nasih, from Ibrahim ibn Abi Yahya Al-Mada'ini.

And whatever is narrated from Ruh ibn Abd Al-Rahim, I have narrated it from Jafar ibn Ali ibn Al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Abdullah ibn Al-Mughirah Al-Kufi, from his grandfather Al-Hasan ibn Ali Al-Kufi, from Al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Faḍḍal, from Ghalib ibn Uthman, from Ruh ibn Abd Al-Rahim.

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Allah presented my ’Ummah (followers) to me in the realm of clay and taught me their names just as He had taught all the names to Adam. The (groups of) people of flags passed by and I prayed to ask forgiveness for Ali (AS) and his followers. My Lord has promised me a quality for the Shi‘a of Ali (AS).’
It was asked, ‘What is that quality Oh Messenger of Allah?’ He replied, ‘It is forgiveness for those of them who have faith and that no minor or major sins from them will be left without being changed to good deeds.’

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), once said to me, ‘O Muyassir, marry during the night because Allah has made the night for comfort and do not seek for any of your needs during the night; the night is dark. He (the narrator) has said, that he (the Imam) then said, ‘One who comes during the night has a great right and the companion has a great right.’”

This is concerning my question before abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a marriage without formal proposal (Khutbah). He (the Imam) said, ‘Is it not the case in general that when our young people marry, we prepare food and at the table we say, “O so and so, do you give so and so in marriage to so and so” and he says, “Yes, I have done so”?”’

I was with Abī ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) when he was (forcefully) taken to Abī Ja’far (Mansūr Al-Dawānīqi) in Ḥīrah. One clear and moonlit night, the Imam (a.s.) looked at the sky and said, “O Yūnus! Do you see how beautiful these stars are?! Verily they are the protection of the inhabitants of the skies, and we (the Ahlul Bayt) are the protection of the inhabitants on earth.” Then he asked me to order (the servants) to saddle the donkey and the mule. Once they were ready, Imam (a.s.) asked me which (sumpter) I would prefer to ride. I thought that Imam (a.s.) would prefer to ride the mule because it was stronger than the donkey, so I chose the donkey. However, Imam (a.s.) asked me to allow him to ride the donkey to which I agreed. Once we were outside Ḥīrah, Imam (a.s.) asked me to move ahead and I did. He kept instructing me to turn right and left until we came to some red-coloured gravel. Imam (a.s.) said, “This is the place.” Then the Imam (a.s.) moved slightly to the right. There was a well and some water there with which Imam performed Wuďū. Then he moved toward a mound and prayed next to it. Then he leaned over it and cried. Thereafter, he moved to a smaller mound which was next to the (first) mound. He repeated what he had done next to the first mound. Then he said to me, “O Yūnus! Do as I did.” I followed the order of the Imam (a.s.). Thereafter, Imam (a.s.) asked me, “O Yūnus! Do you know where we are?” “No,” I replied. Imam (a.s.) said: The first place was the grave of the Commander of the Believers (a.s.) and the second place was where the head of Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali ibn Abī Ťālib (a.s.) was buried. After the cursed ‘Ubaydullāh ibn Ziyād – may Allāh’s curse be upon him – sent the head of Ḥusain (a.s.) to Shām, it was sent back to Kūfah. But ‘Ubaydullāh said, “Take the head out of Kūfah so that it does not cause disorder among its people.” However, Allāh placed the head next to the Commander of the Believers (a.s.) (and thereafter, it was joined with the body of Ḥusain (a.s.)). Therefore, the head is with the body now and the body is with the head.

I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) say: The heavens wept over Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.) and Yaḥyā ibn Zakariyyā (a.s.) and they have never wept over anyone other than them. I asked, “How did the heavens weep?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “The heavens became red for forty days like the sun at the time of sunrise and sunset.” I asked, “Is that how the heavens weep?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Yes.”

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Verily owls fast during the day and after they break their fast, they are extremely bewildered with grief over Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.) until morning.

“Abu al-Hassan Musa (a.s.), has said, ‘A generous person who possesses good moral discipline is under Allah’s protection and Allah does not leave such a person alone until He admits him to Paradise. Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, has never sent a prophet or an executor of the will of the prophets who is not generous. All the people of good deeds were generous. My father continued to encourage me to be generous until he passed away. He said, ‘One who pays zakat completely and pays it to properly deserving persons is not questioned wherefrom he has earned his wealth.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ’Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has never made a people to undergo suffering while eating food. Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, is honorable. He does not give people sustenance, then make them to undergo suffering before they finish eating their food.’”

One who thanks Allah after bearing illness for a night, is compensated for his sins of sixty years.” The narrator asked the meaning of bearing. Imam (a.s.) replied, “Remaining patient during illness.”
