hadith 9955
Imam Ali (AS) said, May Allah have mercy on the person who holds back the reins of his soul from acts of disobedience to Allah and steers it towards the obedience of Allah by its reins.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : رَحِمَ اللّهُ امْرَءاً اَلْجَمَ نَفْسَهُ عَنْ مَعاصِي اللّهِ بِلِجامِها وَ قادَها إلى طاعَةِ اللّهِ بِزِمامِها

Imam Ali (AS) said, May Allah have mercy on the person who subdues the inclinations of his soul towards vain desires thereby protecting it, and steers it towards the obedience of Allah by its reins.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : رَحِمَ اللّهُ امْرَءاً قَمَعَ نَوازِعَ نَفْسِهِ إلَى الهَوى فَصانَها وَ قادَها إلى طاعَةِ اللّهِ بِعِنانِها

Imam Ali (AS) said, Never declare war against Allah for there is no power that can protect you from His wrath and you can never be free from need for His mercy.
