‘Abū ʿAbdillāh said [to me], “O Abā Ṣāliḥ, when a [funeral] bier is lifted, imagine that it is you who is being carried [upon it], or that you are the one asking your Lord to return you to the world so that you may do good deeds, and see then what you will resume [of your actions].” Then he said, “How astounding it is for a community whose former members have been confined away [in their graves] from their latter ones [who are alive], then a caller calls out among them for departure [from this world] while they are [busy] playing!”’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is undesirable to perform Salah (prayer) in three locations of roads. They are al-Bayda’ which is Dhat al-Jaysh, Dhat al-Salasil, and Dajnan (names of places).’ He (the narrator) has said that he (the Imam) then said, ‘It is not an offense to perform Salah (prayer) above the main road but it is undesirable to perform Salah (prayer) on the main road.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a woman who experiences Istihadah (kind of menses). He (the Imam) mentioned ’Asma’ bint ‘Umays and said, ’Asma’ gave birth to Muhammad ibn abu Bakr in al-Bayda’ and in the case of her giving birth there was blessing for women who give birth or experience Hayd (menses). The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, commanded her to use something like a diaper, secure it with a belt and assume the state of Ihram.”’

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the least with which a pilgrim, whose Hajj is not accepted, returns is safety of his family and property at home.” I (the narrator) then asked, ‘What kind of thing is this safety?’ He (the Imam) replied, ’Nothing will happen to them except things that may happen during his presence in his family and belongings.’”

Imam Abu ‘Abdullah (a.s.) said the following. “O son of Abi Ya'fur, indeed Allah is One, unique in His Oneness. He alone issues His command. He created a creation and appointed and measured them for that command (Amr, task). So, we, O son of Abu Ya‘fur, are that creation. We are the authority of Allah among His servants, the treasurers of His knowledge, and the guardians of it.”

The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Whoever wishes for a thing whilst being pleased with Allah will not leave this world until he is granted it.

“Once we were in the presence of abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), in Makkah and Dawud ibn Ali also was in it. Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), said to me, ‘Dawud ibn Ali asked me, “What do you say, O abu ‘Abd Allah, about the turtledove we caught and shortened their feathers?”’ I replied, ‘Because of your pulling out its feathers, you must feed them until their feathers grow as normal; then set them free.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that if you perform Salah (prayer) with a people and the Imam reads bisme rabbik (Chapter 96) or something of al-‘Aza’im, completes his reading and does not do Sajdah (prostration), you just make a gesture for it. A woman experiencing Hayd (menses) must perform Sajdah (prostration) when listening to such reading.’”

“I was once sitting in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (ṣ) when a man came to him and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, [what do you say about] the slave?’ So the Messenger of Allah (ṣ) said, ‘He has been tested by you and you have been tested by him, so that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, may see how grateful you are and how patient he is.’”

“I asked Abā ʿAbdillāh (a) about the verse wherein Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, says: Do not assert your own virtue. He knows best who is truly virtuous (Q53:32). So he said, ‘It is when a person says: I prayed last night, and I fasted yesterday, and other statements such as these.’ Then he (a) said, ‘There were some people who would say in the mornings, “We prayed last night and we fasted yesterday,” so ʿAlī (a) said, “But as for me, I sleep at night and in the day, and were I to find between them any other time, I would have slept in it as well.”’” [1]

“I heard abu‘Abdallah (a.s.) say, ‘Find out (who the) sign (of Allah, the Imam) is. When you will find out and learn who he is then it will not harm you whether this matter (the rise of al-Mahdi with Divine Authority) will take place earlier or later. Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most gracious, has said, ““On the day when We call every nation with their leaders, Imams. .” (17:71). One who knows who his Imam is he would be just like the one who would present in the tents of al-Mahdi (a.s.).”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Ali (a.s.), would say, ‘Nose bleeding does not discontinue Salah (prayer) nor vomiting, or blood. If one feels a pinch he can hold another man’s hand of the people in the rows to come forward, if he is an Imam, to lead.’”

“I once performed al-Maghrib Salah (prayer) with my people but after two Rak‘at I said the phrase of offering greeting of peace and someone from them said, ‘You performed only two Rak‘at.’ I performed it again. I then informed abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about it and he said, ‘Perhaps you performed it again.’ I said, ‘Yes, I did so.’ He (the narrator) has said that he (the Imam) smiled and said, ‘You only had to stand up and perform one Rak‘at.’”

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about oath and Nadhr (a commitment) and swearing about that which is an act of obedience to Allah. He (the Imam) said, ‘What is an act of obedience you must do it. If one makes a commitment then does not fulfill, one must pay expiation; but if it is an oath in sin, then it does not have any valid effect.’”

“I once asked abu Ja’far (a.s.), about a man who gets up in the end of the night and he is afraid of coming of dawn (before completing). Should he begin with al-Witr or perform Salah (prayer) as normal so that al-Witr becomes the last item?’ He (the Imam) said, ’He begins with al-Witr.’ He (the Imam) said, ’I have done so.’”

The Blessed the Sublime God revealed to Moses (MGB), ‘Do not get pleased with the extent of your wealth and do not abandon remembering Me under any circumstances since extensive wealth will cause the forgetting of sins, and abandoning My remembrance will cause the hardening of hearts.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that when you stand up for Salah (prayer), say this: ‘O Allah, I consider Muhammad, O Allah grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, to be in front of me in Your presence along with my wishes and needs and I turn to You through him. For the sake of his position before You, grant me honor in this and the next world and include me among those near You. Make my Salah (prayer) accepted through him, my sins forgiven and my prayer and wishes granted. You are forgiving and merciful.’””

“I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), that a man stands up for Salah (prayer), wants to read a Surah (chapter) and he reads Surah (chapter) 112 and Surah (chapter) 109. He (the Imam) said, ‘He can discontinue reading any Surah (chapter) except Surah (chapter) 112 and Surah (chapter) 109.’”

“I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about a man who performs Salah (prayer) but does not know if he is in the third or fourth Rak‘at. He (the Imam) said, ‘It depends on what his guessing indicates. If he according to his guess thinks it is the third or fourth he accepts it along with his soul, then performs two Rak‘at in which he reads al-Fatihah al-Kitab only.”’

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who performs Salah (prayer) with dyes (paint) on him. He (the Imam) said, ‘He must not perform Salah (prayer) while it is on him. He must remove it when he wants to perform Salah (prayer).’ I (the narrator) then asked, ‘Is it acceptable if it is inside a piece of fabric which is clean?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘He must not perform Salah (prayer) while it is on him and a woman also must not perform Salah (prayer) while it is on her.’”
