Paradise will not be entered by the one in whose heart is the weight of a mustard seed of arrogance. He said: I said: We do, indeed, happen to wear a fine robe and admiration may hit us. He said: That is only with regards to what is between him and between Allah, Exalted and Glorious is He.

I asked him about the veils which invalidate deeds. He said: The veils are (different) ranks: among them is what beautifies for a servant his evil deed, by which he sees it as good, admires it and assumes that he is doing good; and among them is that a servant believes in his Lord, by which he (assumes that he) performs a favor upon Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, whereas Allah, Exalted is He, is the One who granted him a favor.

We were told by Ahmad bin Muhammed bin Isa, with a connected chain (reaching) to al-Sadiq, Ja’far bin Muhammed, peace be upon them both, that he said: The least that achieves fulfillment from supplication after an obligatory prayer is that one says: «O Allah, send Your blessings upon Muhammed and the Family of Muhammed. O Allah, indeed, I ask You from every good which Your knowledge encompasses, and I seek refuge in You from every evil which Your knowledge encompasses. O Allah, indeed, I ask You for Your comfort in my matters, all of them, and I seek refuge in You from the disgrace of this world and the torment of the Hereafter.»

Three things are back- breaking: overestimating one’s deeds; forgetting one’s sins and being conceited.”

“A valley of Hell called Saqar, is reserved for the proud. This valley was burnt excessively by Allah and it requested Allah to let it inhale. As soon as it was allowed to do so, the entire Hell flared up.”

“Surely there is a mountain in Hell called Sada, which has a valley called Saqar, which has a well called Hab-hab. As soon as the lid of this well was lifted, the entire Hell was engulfed in flames. This is the abode of tyrants.”

Abu `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as) said: The foundations of disbelief are three: greed, arrogance, and envy. As for greed, when Adam (as) was prohibited from the tree, greed caused him to eat from it. As for arrogance, when Iblis refused to prostrate to Adam, he was arrogant. As for envy, one of Adam's sons killed the other due to envy.

“One who does not recite Laa ilaaha illallaah is proud and arrogant.”

“Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.) has said, ‘It is astonishing how one who yesterday was only a sperm and tomorrow will turn into a carcass displays arrogance and boastfulness.’”

he heard Abū ʿAbd Allāh (ʿas) saying, "An arrogant person should not hope for a praiseworthy reputation, nor a swindler for many friends. An ill-mannered person should not hope for nobility, nor should a miser hope that his kin maintain their relations with him. One who mocks people should not hope for true friendship; neither should one of little understanding hope to be in a position he will be allowed to judge. A gossip should not hope for peace, nor a covetous person hope for comfort in his heart. One who punishes minor transgressions should not hope for prominence, nor should an inexperienced individual who is overconfident in their view hope to be in power."

Every obstinate tyrant is one who refuses to say: “there is no god but Allah” (la ilaha illallah).

Amir al-Mu’minin (as) has said, ‘Self glorification is an indication of the weakness of one’s intelligence.’

Four characteristics will never vanish in my nation until the Resurrection Day: taking pride in their ancestry; challenging the lineage; relying on astrology; and mourning aloud over the dead. If a woman who mourns aloud dies without having repented, she shall be resurrected with a shirt made of tar and an itchy armor.”

Muḥammad b. al-Ḥusayn narrated to me through a chain of his which he omitted, he said that the Messenger of God (s) said, "Never shall one who persisted in drinking alcohol enter the Garden; nor one constantly given to intoxication; nor one disobedient to their parents; nor one excessively black; nor a wittol; nor a policeman - meaning a patrolman; nor a hermaphrodite - meaning one of both sexes; nor a graverobber - meaning a tomb raider; nor a tithe-taker; nor one who severs family relations; nor a libertarian rejector of Divine Pre-Destiny." The compiler of this book - may God have mercy on him - comments on this tradition: By "one excessively black", the tradition is referring to someone who has not one white hair on his head or beard, despite his old age. Such a man is called in Arabic "al-Gharbīb".

O Prophet of God! This is an insane epileptic and we have gathered around him.”The Prophet (MGB) said, “This man is not insane. He is ill.” Then the Prophet (MGB) said, “Do you want me to tell you who a real insane one is?”They said, “O Prophet of God! Yes.” The Prophet (MGB) said, “A true insane is one who walks with pride; looks at the people from the corners of his eyes; shakes his shoulders due to haughtiness; he wishes to go to Heaven although he commits sins; people are not secure from his wicked deeds; there is no hope that he will do a good deed. Such a person is insane. This poor fellow is just ill.”
