Maintaining health is the result of careful examinations, feeling sorry is the result of rushing, and not getting things done on time is the result of not starting on time.”

'I wrote to Imam (as) - meaning Imam Ali ibn Muhammad Al-Hadi (as) - about a man who died and had, during his lifetime, given everything he owned to you. He had no children at the time, but later he had a child. His total wealth amounted to three thousand dirhams, and I have sent you one thousand dirhams. If you see fit, may Allah (swt) make me your sacrifice, kindly inform me of your opinion so I may act accordingly.' Imam (as) wrote in response: "Release it to them (the surviving children)."

"Be more hopeful for what you do not expect than for what you expect. For indeed, Musa ibn Imran (as), peace be upon him, went out to bring fire for his family and returned as a prophet after Allah (swt), the Mighty and Majestic, spoke to him. The Queen of Sheba went out and embraced Islam with Prophet Sulayman, peace be upon him. And the magicians of Pharaoh went out seeking honor for Pharaoh but returned as believers."

Whoever completes his fast with a good saying or a good action, Allah will accept his fast. So, it was said to him: O son of the Messenger of Allah! What is the good saying? He said: The testimony that there is no god but Allah; and the good action is giving out [zakat] al-Fitra.

I heard Aba Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. Musa (as) say: Whoever visits the grave of my father (as) in Tus, Allah will forgive his past and future sins. On the Day of Resurrection, a pulpit will be installed for him near the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah (s), until Allah finishes judging His servants.

I read in a letter of Abi’l Hasan al-Rida (as): Announce to my Shi`a that a visitation of me is considered by Allah to be equal to one thousand Hajj. He said: I said to Abi Ja`far [al-Jawad] (as): One thousand Hajj? He said: Yes, by Allah. One million Hajj for one who visits him recognizing his right.

I wrote to Abi Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. Musa al-Rida (as): May I be your sacrifice! I pray behind one who claims the doctrine of the body and takes the doctrine of Yunus b. `Abd al-Rahman. So, he (as) wrote: Do not pray behind them, and do not give them zakat. I dissociate from them, and Allah dissociates from them.

“There are three persons, whom Allah will not speak to on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He look upon nor will He purify and shall have a painful chastisement; one, who pretends that he is an imam but he is not, the other one is he, who claims that the real imam is not an imam and the third one is he, who claims that these two persons are faithful Muslims.”

One who humiliates My friend has prepared for a battle with Me. And a servant has never drawn close to Me with anything better than what I have made obligatory on him; and indeed, he draws closer to Me with supererogatory actions until I love him. And when I love him, I become his ears that he hears with, his eyes that he sees with, his hands that he grasps with and his legs that he walks with. If he calls upon Me, I answer him; and if He asks from Me, I grant him. There is nothing I hesitate in doing like in taking the life of a believer. He dislikes death and I dislike causing him pain.

"Any wet nurse of a people who accidentally kills their child while sleeping - by rolling over and causing the child's death - the blood money is to be paid from her personal wealth if she took on nursing for the sake of pride and honor. However, if she undertook nursing due to poverty, then the blood money is upon her family ('Aqilah)."

Any believer who visits a believer has in fact visited Allah; and any believer who visits a sick believer will be immersed in mercy. When he sits with the sick believer, mercy will inundate him; and when he leaves, Allah [M.G] will appoint for him seventy thousand angels who seek forgiveness and mercy for him, saying, 'Rejoice and enjoy Paradise' until the same time the next day and he shall have a kharif in Paradise.' The narrator asked, 'May I be ransomed for you, what is a kharif?' 'Kharif is a corner in Paradise,' he replied, 'It would take a rider forty years to journey through.'

He said: "If a man doubts after prostrating that he has not bowed (rak'a), he should continue with his prayer until he is certain that he did not bow. If he becomes certain that he did not bow, then he should perform the two prostrations (sajdatayn) that have no bowing and complete his prayer as though it were perfect. However, if he does not become certain until after he has finished and turned away from the prayer, he should stand up and pray one more rak'ah with two prostrations, and there is no harm upon him."

I asked Abu Ja'far Imam Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Baqir (as), about al-sa'ibah (a freed slave without specific ties). Imam (as) said: "Look in the Qur'an. Wherever there is mention of the freeing of a slave, that, O Ammar, refers to the sa'ibah, who has no wala' (loyalty) to any Muslim except Allah (swt), the Mighty and Majestic. So, whoever's wala' belongs to Allah (swt), it belongs to His Messenger. And whatever belongs to His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, its wala' belongs to the Imam. His liabilities (for crimes or debts) are upon the Imam, and his inheritance belongs to the Imam."

I said to Zurara, "I heard Muhammad ibn Muslim and Bukayr narrate from Abu Jafar Imam Al-Baqir (as): 'In the case of a husband, two parents, and a daughter, the husband receives one-fourth, which is three shares out of twelve, and the two parents each receive one-sixth, totaling four shares out of twelve. The remaining five shares go to the daughter because if she were a son, she would not have received more than that. And if there were two daughters, they would have nothing more than the remaining five shares.'"

“About the case of a man who marries a woman on her command and decision or according to his decision and command then he or she dies before they go to bed with each other, abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘She can have advantage and inheritance but has no mahr (dower)/ I then asked what happens if he divorces her after marriage according to her command and decision?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘If he divorces her after marriage according to her command and decision her mahr (dower) is not more than the weight of five hundred dirham of silver which is the mahr (dower) of the women of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause.’”

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about the case of a man who divorces his wife and about when she becomes stranger to him. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is when blood of the third Hayd (menses) appears. She gets control of her own affairs.’ I then asked, ‘Can she marry in that condition?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, but she must not allow him to approach her before she is clean of blood of Hayd (menses).’

O so-and-so! Do not sit with the rich, for a servant who sits with them sees that Allah has blessed them, and he does not stand until he believes that Allah has not blessed him.

“I asked Imam abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) about what people narrate that Allah created Adam in His-own form.” The Imam (a.s.) replied, “It is created and newly invented form. Allah selected and chose it over the other various forms and gave His-own possessive case just like He has done so about Ka‘bah and the spirit saying, ‘My house’ ‘I have blown My spirit in Him.’”

Whoever likes an extended share of his daily bread and a delayed death will visit his kin.”
