Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Those who go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) knowing his rights will be registered among those (who will be) in A’lā ‘Illīyyīn.

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: ‘Ali ibn Ḥusain (Imam Sajjād (a.s.)) cried over his father, Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.), for twenty years – or forty years – and whenever food was brought to him, he would cry over Ḥusain (a.s.). One day his servant said to him, “May I sacrifice myself for you, O son of the Messenger of Allāh! I am afraid that you will die (from grief).” He (Imam Sajjād (a.s.)) replied, “I only complain of my distress and grief to Allāh, and I know from Allāh what you do not know’ (12:86). Verily whenever I remember the killing of the children of Fāťimah (s.a.), I am choked with tears over them.”

I heard Abal Ḥasan the First (Imam Kāżim (a.s.)) say: Those who go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) knowing his rights will be forgiven for all of their past and future sins.

I was with Abī ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) and I had sent someone to rent a donkey for me so that I could go to the graves of the martyrs (of Uḥud). Imam (a.s.) asked me, “What prevents you from going to the Ziyārah of the Master of the Martyrs?” I asked, “Who is he?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Ḥusain (a.s.).” I asked, “What is the reward for going to his Ziyārah?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “One purified Hajj and ‘Umrah as well as this much reward.” Um Sa’īd added that the Imam (a.s.) extended his arms out and then closed them three times (to explain ‘this much reward’).

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) asked me, “O Um Sa’īd! Do you go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.)?” I replied, “Yes.” Imam (a.s.) said, “Go to his Ziyārah, for verily going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) is WĀJIB (mandatory) on both men and women.”

“I once was with abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), and he asked for dates which he ate and then he kept drinking water. I then said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, I wish you refrain from drinking water.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘I eat dates only to make water taste more delicious.’”

"The Messenger of Allah (saw) turned to his companions and said: 'Take up shields.' They asked, 'O Messenger of Allah, is it from an enemy who has surrounded us?' He replied, 'No, but from the fire (of Hell). Say: Subhanallah (Glory be to Allah), Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah), and Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest).'"

I was the attendant leading Abi Basir [who was blind] in the funeral procession of one of our companions when I said to him: there is Zurara in the procession, he [Abi Basir] said to me: take me to him [Zurara], so I took him to him, he said: peace be upon you O Aba al-Hasan [Zurara], Zurara returned the greeting to him and said to him: if I thought that this was of your own volition I would have preceded you in it [greeted you first], so Abu Basir said to him: this is what I have been ordered to do.

“Once, the Holy Prophet was invited for food. When he entered the house he saw a hen that had laid an egg on a wall and it fell on the top of a stake. It stayed there and did not fall off or break. The Holy Prophet expressed astonishment and the man said, ‘Were you astonished because of this egg? I swear by the One who has sent you with the truth that I have never suffered any loss.’ The Imam said, ‘The Holy Prophet then stood up and left without having any food saying, ‘One who does not suffer any losses, Allah is not interested in him.’”

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘The Messenger of Allah has said, “My followers are exempt from responsibility for four things: Acting mistakenly, forgetting, being coerced and compelled, and for failing to act. This has been mentioned in the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, ‘Lord, do not hold us responsible for our forgetfulness and mistakes. Lord, do not lay upon us the burden that You laid upon those who lived before us. Lord, do not lay upon us what we cannot afford. Ignore and forgive our sins. Have mercy upon us. You are our Lord. Help us against the unbelievers,’ (2:286) also in His words, ‘No one verbally denounces his faith in Allah, unless he is forced, but his heart is confident with his faith. . . (16:106)

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Three women came to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, and one of them said, “My husband does not eat meat.” The other one said, “My husband does not smell perfume.” The other one said, “My husband does not go near the woman.” The Messenger of Allah came out while his gown dragged behind him until he climbed on the pulpit, praised Allah and glorified Him; then said, “What has happened to certain people of my companions who do not eat meat, smell perfume and do not go near women. I however, eat meat, smell perfumes and go to women, thus, those who disregard my Sunnah are not of my people.’””

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, does not transfer a believer from the humiliation of sins to the honor of piety before granting him freedom from wants without property, strength without tribesmen and comforting companionship without people.’”

“I once heard abu al-Hassan, the 1st, Alayhi al-Salam, say, ‘Whoever visits al-Husayn (a.s.), with proper understanding of his rights, Allah forgives his sins of the past and those that come later.’”

“Once I went to see Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.) and found him thinking and he drawing lines on the ground. I then said, “O Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.) I can see you thinking and drawing lines on the ground. Have you become interested in it (worldly things) ?” He said, no, by Allah, I have not become interested in it and the whole world not even for a day but I thought about a baby from my descendants, the eleventh generation. He will be al-Mahdi who will fill the earth with justice and fairness after its being filled with suffering and injustice. He will disappear from the public sight and in confusing conditions. Certain people will deviate and others find the path of guidance.” I then asked, “O Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.), how long will be the duration of confusion and the disappearance?” He said, “Six days or six months or six years.” I then said, “Will this really come to pass?” He said, “Yes, just his creation will be necessary (so also will be his disappearance). However, O Asbagh, this is not your concern. Those people will of the best in this nation with the best virtuous ones of this family (Ahl al-Bayt).” I then said, “What then will happen afterwards?” He said, “Allah will do whatever He will so decide. He possesses, Bada’s, (seemingly change of plan) wills, goals and ends.”

“He (the Imam) (a.s.), has said, ‘If barbat is played in one’s house for forty days Allah gives its control to a Satan called al-Qafandar who sits on every part of the body of the owner of the house. When this happens bashfulness (the sense to feel ashamed of one’s indecent acts) is taken away from him and he does not mind whatever he says or is said about him.’”

“I heard abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) say, ‘There will be three kinds of people to whom Allah will not look on the Day of Judgment, will not purify them and they will suffer pain full punishments. They are those who claim to be the Imam with authority from Allah, those who would reject the Imam, Leader with Divine Authority and those who think that for the two there is a share in Islam.”

I came up to Abu Abdullah (asws), so he (asws) said: ‘Tell Umm Farwa to come and listen to what happened with her grandfather’. So she came and sat behind the curtain. Then he (asws) said: ‘Recite a poem (Nasheed) to us’. So I said, ‘Let Farwa be generous in the flow of her tears’. So she wailed and the women wailed’. Abu Abdullah (asws) said: ‘The door! The door! The people of Al-Medina were gathered at the door. So Abu Abdullah (asws) sent a message to them: ‘One of our young ones fainted, hence the women wailed’.

“One who visits the tomb of Imam Husain (a.s.) knowing his right, it is written down in Illiyeen.”

Dawad al-Jassas who said: I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) say about the words of Allah, “Through the signs and with the star people do find their way.” (16:16) “The star is the Messenger of Allah (sw) and the signs are the Imams (a.s.)”
