Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “After the obligatory acts, participating in a holy war is the noblest thing.”

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “A believer’s private zone (when sitting somewhere) in the summer is as much as the span between the two hands (or nearly six feet).”

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “Do not trust your arms with a wicked man since he will corrupt you.”

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “The Quran has bounds as any house does.”

“A man's prosperity depends on his being good- tempered.”

“Ibn abu al-‘Awja' said to abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) in one of their conversations, ‘You spoke of Allah and referred to an unseen.’” Abu 'Abdillah (a.s.) said, “What you said is not proper. How would He be unseen when He is present with His creatures and is closer to them than their jugular vein? He hears their speeches, sees their persons and knows their secrets.” Ibn abu al-‘Awja then asked, “Is He everywhere? If He is in the heavens, how can He be on earth? And if He is on earth, then how can He be in the heavens?” Abu 'Abdillah (a.s.) said, “You spoke only of a created being that, by changing place, becomes occupied with a place, and another place is vacated from him, so it does not know ,when he is in the place in which he came to be in, what has happened to the place where it used to be. As for Allah, Magnificient of Glory, and the Sovereign Judge, no place is without Him and He does not occupy any place, and He is not nearer to one place than another place.”

Abu Abdillah, peace be upon him said: "Once, Salman - may Allah be pleased with him, passed by the iron mongers of Kufa and he saw a young man who had fainted and people had gathered around him. They told him: "O Abu Abdillah, this young man has had a fit, perhaps you would come to recite something in his ears." He said: Salman came closer to the youth, and when the young man saw Salman, he gained consciousness and said: "I do not suffer from what these people think! The fact is that when I passed by those iron mongers and I saw them strike with the sledgehammers, I remembered what Allah, Most High, says (in the Qur’an): ’And for them awaits hooked iron lashes’ (al-Haj:V21). Overawed with the fear of divine chastisement, I lost my senses." Salman took him as his brother, and in his heart, entered the sweetness of affection for the young man, for the sake of Allah. They remained together; till one day the young man fell ill. Salman visited him and sat near his head, while the young man was about to die. So he (Salman) said: "O angel of Death, be tender with my brother." He (the angel) said: "O, Abu Abdillah, I am tender with all the faithfuls."

“I once asked for permission from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), for a certain person of our people and he asked him (the Imam) about al-Nabidh. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is lawful.’ He said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep you well, I asked about al-Nabidh which is placed in al-‘Akr (murky) to boil until it becomes intoxicating.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), said that the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘All intoxicating liquor is unlawful.’ He said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep you well, among us in Iraq they say that the Messenger of Allah thereby meant the cup that is intoxicating liquor.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), said, ‘Whatever is intoxicating liquor in large quantity, it is unlawful in small quantity also.’ He (the man) then said, ‘Can I break it (intoxicating effect) with water?’ Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), said, ‘No, how can water make lawful what is unlawful? Have fear of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, and do not drink it.’”

I heard him say: A man accompanied me, and he would delay Maghrib and pray Fajr early while I would pray Maghrib when the Sun set and pray Fajr when dawn would appear. So, the man said to me: What prevents you from doing as I do? Surely, the Sun rises over a people before us, and it sets for us while it is still above others. He said: So, I said: Surely, it is only incumbent upon us to pray when the Sun sets for us, and when dawn rises for us – this is all that is incumbent upon us – and they should pray when it sets for them.

“We were with abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), in al-Hirah when he (the Imam) visited abu Ja‘far, al-Mansur, and one of his commanders had a circumcision feast for his child. Food was prepared and people were invited. Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), was one of the people invited. When he was on the table to have food from a group of people near by, a man asked for water but a bowl of wine was brought for him. When the bowl reached the hand of the man abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), stood up to leave the table. He (the Imam) was asked about the reason for getting up and he (the Imam) said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Condemned is one who sits on a table where wine is served.’ In another Hadith it is said, ‘Condemned is he, condemned is he who sits on a table voluntarily where wine is served.’”

O Ans! Make complete ablutions so that you may cross the Bridge just like a cloud; express your greetings aloud so that there are increased blessings in your house; and give a lot of charity in private so as to quench the Honorable the Exalted God’s Wrath.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), said to me, ‘Allah has made it lawful, in Islam, to destroy two kinds of lives. No one can issue judgment about it until the rise of a person from our Ahl al-Bayt. When Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, allows this person from our Ahl al-Bayt, he then judges them according to the laws of Allah without calling any witness to testify. One such life is the life of an already married fornicator who is stoned to death and one who refuses to pay zakat due on him who is beheaded (for this crime).”’ A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from Muhammad ibn Ali from Musa ibn Sa’dan from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Qasim from Malik ibn ‘Atiyyah from Aban ibn Taghlib from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) a similar Hadith.”

we said to Abi Abdillah عليه السلام: when Abdallah b. Ajlan fell sick – the sickness due to which he went on to die – he used to say [while sick]: I am not going to die because of this sickness of mine, so Abu Abdillah عليه السلام said: how far! how far! [was Ibn Ajlan’s opinion compared to the reality], if Ibn Ajlan has gone then may Allah not acquaint him with any evil arising out of his actions. Verily Musa b. Imran chose seventy men from among his people, so when the earthquake overtook them Musa was the first to stand up after it, he said: O my Lord my companions! He said: O Musa I will substitute them with better than them for you, he said: my Lord! I have gotten used to their scent and familiarized myself with their names, repeating this thrice, so Allah resurrected them as prophets.

I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) or Abā Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)), “What is the best place after Masjid Al-Ḥarām and the Mosque of the Prophet (s.a.a.w.)?” Imam (a.s.) replied: Kūfah. O Abā Bakr! Kūfah is the purified and the virtuous land. It contains the graves of the messengers, the prophets, and the truthful successors. It (also) contains the Mosque of Suhayl in which every prophet sent by Allāh has prayed. The Justice of Allāh (the Twelfth Imam (a.s.)) will (also) reappear from this city. The rising Imam (a.s.) and those who will lead after him will also live in it. It is indeed the abode of the prophets, the successors, and the righteous ones.

I was at the place of Abu Abdillah, peace be upon him, with a group of his companions, and I heard him while he was saying: Indeed, the womb of the Imams, peace be upon him, from the Family of Muhammed, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family, will surely adhere to the Throne on the Day of Resurrection, and onto it will the wombs of the believers adhere, and it will say: «O Lord, connect (us) to those who connected to us, and disconnect (us) from those who disconnected from us.» He said: Then Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, will say: «I am the Mercifull to all, and you are the womb ; I split your name out of My Name. Hence, the one who connects to you, I will connect him, and the one who disconnects from you, I will disconnect him.» That is why the Messenger of Allah, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family said: The womb is a shujna from Allah, Exalted and Glorious is He.

21. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) says that a believer can surely intercede for his friend except a nasibi because even if all the prophets, messengers and honored angels intercede for a nasibi, their intercession will not be accepted.

Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘You will be afflicted with an obscure matter that will leave you with no sign to indicate to the solution, nor a leader to guide the way. None shall be saved from it except the one who recites the ‘Supplication of the Drowning Person. [The narrator says] I asked the Imam, ‘What is the Supplication of the Drowning Person? The Imam replied, ‘O Allah, O the Beneficent, O the Merciful, O He who causes the hearts to fluctuate, affirm my heart upon Your religion.

"If a married adulterer confesses, the Imam should be the first to stone him, followed by the people. But if the evidence is established against him, the witnesses should be the first to stone him, then the Imam, and then the people."

Hadith.1790 - In the narration of Abdullah ibn Sinan from Abu Abdullah (Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as)), he said: "The Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was asked about fasting on two Thursdays with a Wednesday in between. Imam (as) said: 'As for Thursday, it is the day on which deeds are presented. As for Wednesday, it is the day on which the Fire was created. And fasting is a shield.'"

Everything in this book that is narrated from Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-'Ala has been transmitted by me from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Sa'd ibn Abdullah, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-Khattab, from Musa ibn Sa'dan, from Abdullah ibn Abi Al-Qasim, from Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-'Ala Al-Khaffaf, the freed servant (mawla) of Banu Asad.
