“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘If one drinks one sip of wine Allah will not accept his Salat (prayer) for seven (days) and if one becomes drunk his Salat (prayer) is not accepted for forty days.’”

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘If one drinks intoxicating liquor and dies when there is something of wine inside him because of which he has not repented, he will be raised from his grave confused, his mouth bent to one side, his saliva flowing and crying woes and destruction.’”

“Abu Basir and his friends drank al-Nabidh and they broke it with water. I mentioned it before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), and he (the Imam) said to me, ‘How can water make intoxicating liquor lawful? Command them not to drink from it in large or small quantities.’ I then said that they say, ‘The approval of the family of Muhammad makes it lawful for them.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Why should family of Muhammad make intoxicating liquor lawful when they do not drink it in large or small quantities? You must refrain from drinking it.’ We then came together before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), and abu Basir said, ‘This has come to us from you as such and such.’ He (the Imam (a.s.) ) said, ‘You must accept it as true, O abu Muhammad, water does not make intoxicating liquor lawful. You must not drink it in large or small quantities.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If one drinks one sip of wine his Salat (prayer) is not accepted for forty days.’”

“One of the two Imam, (abu Ja‘far or abu ‘Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said, ‘If one drinks one sip of wine his Salat (prayer) is not accepted forty days.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘If one [of you] drinks intoxicating liquor his Salat (prayer) is not accepted for forty days.’”

I asked him about forged statement. He said: From it is the saying of a man to the one who sings: «You did well».

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one drinks intoxicating liquor his Salat (prayer) is not accepted for forty days. If he dies within the forty days, he dies as one of the ignorant people (pagans) and if he repents (turns to), Allah also turns to him.’”

"Indeed, Allah (swt), the Blessed and Exalted, has freed individuals from the Fire every night of the Month of Ramadan, except for those who break their fast with an intoxicant. On the last night of the month, He frees as many as He freed throughout the entire month."

Once Imam Ja’far Sadiq was asked about the ruling regarding a drunkard. Imam (a.s.) replied, “His prayers will not be accepted till a time even a single drop of wine is present in his veins.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘If one drinks wine till he becomes drunk Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, will not accept his Salat (prayer) for forty days.”’

“One day abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), initiating from himself and without my asking said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, all intoxicating liquor is unlawful.’ I then asked saying, ‘I pray to Allah to keep you well, is all of it unlawful?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, even one sip is unlawful.’”

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘If one drinks intoxicating liquor his Salat (prayer) is not accepted for forty days. If he returns to drink again Allah will make him drink from Tinah of Khabal, which he (the Imam) said, is a liquid that comes out of the vagina of fornicators.’”

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, when he was asked about al-Tila’; ‘If it is cooked and boiled until its two-thirds have evaporated and only one-third has remained it then is lawful for use and if it has evaporated less it is devoid of goodness.’”

“A person who drinks wine will meet Allah along with an idol-worshipper. Allah will not accept the Salaat for forty days of a person who drinks wine once.”

“I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about raisins; if it can be boiled to extract its sweetness, then that water is boiled until its two-thirds are evaporated and only one-third is left; then it is taken away to use for drink during the year. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not unlawful.’”

Prophet (s.a.w.s.) who said: “When a drunkard comes on the Day of Judgment, he would be blind and his face, black. His back will be bent and spit will be overflowing from his mouth. His forehead will be tied to his toes. His hands will be coming out of his loins. The people assembled there will be horrified upon seeing the way he is taken for the accounting of his deeds.”

“I heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘Every night in the month of Ramadan, Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, liberates many people and releases them from hellfire, except those who drink intoxicating liquor. During the last night of this month, Allah frees and releases a number of people equal to all that He had freed during the whole month.’”

“About the case of a man who takes ten ritl of grape juice, then pours in it twenty ritl of water, then boils it until twenty ritl of it is evaporated and only ten ritl is left; if it can be used for drink or not. He (the Imam) said, ‘What is cooked until only one-third remains it is lawful.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a cup of intoxicating liquor on which water is poured until its bad effect is gone and also its intoxicating effect. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, by Allah, even if one drop of it is dropped in a hub (a large water container) the whole hub must be thrown out.’”
