“What is the best thing given to a Muslim?” He replied, “A good temper.”

Abū Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)) asked me, “What is the distance between you and the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.)?” I replied, “One day of riding or over one day of walking.” Imam (a.s.) asked, “Do you go to him once every week?” I replied, “No. I only go to him once in a while.” Imam (a.s.) said, “How negligent you people are!!! Verily if it was (this) close to us we would have migrated to live next to him.” The above Ḥadīth has also been narrated to me through the following chain: All of my scholars, from Aḥmad ibn Idrīs, from Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad, from Muḥammad ibn Nājiyah, from Muḥammad ibn ‘Ali, from ‘Āmir ibn Kuthayr Al-Nahadi Al-Sarrāj, from Abil Jārūd, from Abī Ja’far (a.s.).

“I once was with abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), when Mu‘attib came in and said, There are two people at the door.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Bring them inside.’ They came inside and one of them said, ‘I am a saddle maker and I sell skins of tigers.’ He (the Imam) asked, ‘Are they (skins) tanned?’ He replied, ‘Yes, they are tanned.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not unlawful.’”

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: The clay of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) can be collected from up to (a radius of) seventy fathoms by seventy fathoms from the grave.

“Whenever your skin feels a tingling sensation and your eyes tear up, then you must go (to supplicate to Allah), for it (your prayer) is coming your way." He (Ahmad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Khalid) said: A similar hadith was also narrated by Muhammad ibn Isma'il from Isma'il al-Sarraj from Muhammad ibn Hamza from Sa'eed.

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘One who is buried in al-Haram is immune from the great terrifying event.’ I (the narrator) asked him, ’Does it apply to both people of good and evil deeds?’ He (the Imam) replied, ’Yes, it applies to both kinds of people.’”

"None should remain awake after ʿIshāʾ prayers except either of two men: the one praying or the traveller."

[A part of the same sermon :] This path is the lightest course and the brightest lamp. Guidance towards virtuous actions is sought through faith while guidance towards faith is achieved through virtuous actions. Knowledge is made to prosper through faith, and death is feared because of knowledge. This world comes to an end with death, while the next world is secured (by virtuous actions) in this world. For people there is no escape from resurrection. They are heading for this last end in its appointed course.

There is a result for everything. The result of being kind is to speed up turning on the light.”

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: The clay of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) can be collected from up to a distance of seventy fathoms from the grave.

“Once, we were with abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), when Mu‘attib came in and said, ‘There are two people at the door.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Bring them inside.’ The two men came inside and one of them said, ‘I am a butcher. Can I sell the skin before I slaughter the sheep?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not unlawful. However, say from the sheep is from so and so land.’”

“Once abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’ ‘Alayhi al-Salam, had a guest who was sitting with him (the Imam) and speaking during the night. The lamp began to become dim and the man stretched his hand to repair it. Abu al-Hassan, stopped him seriously and he (the Imam) himself repaired the lamp saying, ‘We are a people who do not make the guests work.’”

When a man’s heart is healthy, then his body is healthy. If the heart is diseased, then the body will become diseased.”

“We heard Aba ‘Abdillah (a.s.) cursing, after every obligatory prayer, four men and four women: so-and-so, so-and-so, so-and-so, and Muawiyah. He would name them. And so-and-so, so-and-so, Hind, and Umm al-Hakam, the sister of Muawiyah.”

There are two things which the Children of Adam dislike. They dislike death, while death is the relief of the believers from trials, and they dislike to have little wealth, while having little wealth would reduce the amount of Reckoning.”

1. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) says, “One who lights a lamp in the mosque of Allah the people of heaven and Allah’s angels seek repentance for that person till the time that lamp is on in the mosque.”

All the Prophets which the Honorable the Exalted God sent, forbade wine and confessed that God would do whatever He wills. The Prophets (s) would leave behind ‘al-Kondor (chewing gum) as inheritance.” Al-Salt also narrated that he had heard Al-Ridha (s) say, “Do not go into a dark house at night, unless you carry a lamp with you.”

"Know that you will also be given twenty lashes in return." After the first man flogged him, the flogged man was given the whip and he flogged the first man twenty lashes as a means of punishment to discipline both of them.

I guarantee one house in the prairies of Paradise, one in the middle of Paradise and one in the highest parts of Paradise for whoever abandons quarrelling even though he may be right, abandons lying even as a joke, and is good-tempered.”
