العباس بن موسى بن جعفر عليه السلام

God’s Prophet (S) said, “The good-doers are called ‘al-Abrar’ since they do good to their fathers, children and brethren.”

Wear agate rings as they come from the first mountain which confessed to the Unity of the Sublime God, the Prophethood of My Prophet, and the Trusteeship of you, O Ali! (and for your followers in Paradise.)”

I heard my father (a.s.), saying, ‘Al-‘Atr (perfume) is of the Sunnah of the messengers (of Allah).”’

“I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about abrisam and al-Qazz (kinds of silk from silk worm). He (the Imam) said, ‘They are the same.’”

“Al-‘ Abbas ibn Musa took me and commanded to hit my mouth, so my teeth became shaky and I could not chew food. I then saw my father in my dream. There was an old man with him whom I could not recognize. My father, may Allah grant him mercy, said to me to offer greeting of peace to him.’ I then asked, ‘Father, who is he?’ He replied, ‘He is abu Shaybah al-Khurasaniy (of companions of abu Ja‘far (a.s.)).’ I offered him greeting of peace and he asked, ‘Why do I see you in this condition?’ I replied, ‘Sinful al-‘Abbas ibn Musa commanded to hit on my mouth and my teeth have become shaky.’ He said, ‘Tie them down with cyperus.’ In the morning I rinsed my teeth with al-Sa‘d and my teeth calmed down.’”

A group of people came to see Abu Ja’far (as) and saw him dyeing his hair black. They asked him about it, and he said: ‘I am a man who loves women, and I adorn myself for them.

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘Marriage becomes lawful with three conditions: marriage with the right for inheritance, without inheritance, and with the right for ownership.’”

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), if one can buy a small slave-girl. He (the Imam) said, ‘If she is independent of her parents, it is not unlawful.’”

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Anxiety and sadness continue to trouble a believer until no sin is left in him.’”

“About the case of a camel man who breaks what he carries or spills, abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If he is trusted, there is nothing on him; but if he is not trusted then he is liable.’”

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘ Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, about it ( al-Mut‘ah (advantageous marriage)). He (the Imam) said to me, It is lawful but you must not marry except those who possess chastity; Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, says, “. . .those who protect their private organs. ”(23: 5) Therefore, do not marry one whom you cannot trust about your dirham.’”

I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) say: Verily the clay of the Ḥā`ir, where Ḥusain (a.s.) is buried, is the cure for every disease and it is protection against any fear.

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Recite (the following) when you go to the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.): Salām to you, O son of the Messenger of Allāh. Salām to you, O son of the Commander of the Believers. Salām to you, O Abā ‘Abdillāh. Salām to you, O Master of the Youth of Paradise and (may) Allāh’s Mercy and Blessings be upon you. Salām to you, O one whose pleasure is derived from the pleasure of Al-Raḥmān (the most Gracious) and whose displeasure is derived from the displeasure of Al-Raḥmān. Salām to you, O Allāh’s Trustee, His Decisive Proof, the door (which opens) to Allāh, the guide to Allāh, and the caller to Allāh. I testify that you deemed lawful that which Allāh has declared lawful and you deemed unlawful that which Allāh has declared unlawful. You established prayers, gave charity, enjoined good, forbade evil, and called (the people) to the path of your Lord with wisdom and by giving good counsel. And I testify that you and those who were killed with you are Martyrs who “are alive with [your] Lord getting sustenance from Him” (3:169). And I testify that your killers are in Hell. I follow the religion of Allāh by dissociating myself from those who fought you, those who killed you, those who accompanied them, those who gathered (an army) against you, and from those who heard your voice (calling for help) but did not answer your call. I wish I had been with you so that I would have achieved the great victory.

God’s Prophet (S) said, “O Ali! I asked God for you whatever I asked Him for myself, except for Prophethood since God has said, There will be no Prophets after you. You are the seal of the Prophets, and Ali is the seal of the Trustees.”

I was present at the residence of al-Ridha, ‘Ali ibn Musa, peace be upon him, at Khurasan, and a group of Banu Hashim, including Ishaq ibn al-Abbas ibn Musa, was present also. So, addressing Ishaq, (al-Ridha) said: "O Ishaq! I have come to learn that you are telling people that we consider them as our slaves. I swear by my relation with the messenger of Allah, peace be upon him and his progeny, I have never said that! Nor did I hear to that effect from my forefathers, nor has it been conveyed to me from them through anyone. Yes, what we have said is that people are subservient to us in matters of obedience to Allah, loyal to us in religion. So let those present here convey this to those who are absent."

“This is concerning my question before abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about the case of a man who hires another man for a certain amount of wages and dirham to send him to a certain land. When he arrives in that land one of his friends invites him with who he stays for one or two months where he does not need to spend from the supplies of his employer. After calculating he finds out that the amount his employer had provided is not enough and that his expenses have been taken care of by the resources of his friend; if the shortages in his expenses is the responsibility of the employee or the employer. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is on the employer if it serves his interests, but if it does not serve his interest then it is on the employee.’ I then asked about the case of a man who hired another man for a certain amount of wages and did not explain anything about his sending him (the employee) to another land, and then whose responsibility was his expenses such as washing clothes and bathing? He (the Imam) said, ‘It is the responsibility of the employer.’”

“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), as response in Khutbah for marriage has said, ‘All praise belongs to Allah who chooses praise especially for Himself, glorified is thereby His mention and facilitated thereby is His command. We praise Him without any doubt in it; we see what we prepare in the hope for success and as key to its benefit. We receive what we need from Him and we seek guidance from Allah, a safe guidance and strong means of safety and the determination for piety. We seek protection with Allah against blindness after guidance and against working in misleading desires. I testify that no one other than Allah alone, who has no partners, deserves worship and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger, a servant who never worshipped anyone other than Him. He chose him by His knowledge and entrusted him with His revelation, as a messenger to His creatures, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. Thereafter, we have heard your words and you are the nearest generation with whom we like to have marital relationship and assist you in your needs. We are greedy for your brotherhood. We have accepted the mediation of your mediator and given in marriage to the one from you who have proposed for marriage for the designated mahr (dower) and we ask Allah who decides all issues with His power to make the consequences of our meeting towards His love; He is the guardian thereof and has power thereat.’”
