“Whenever I performed Salah (prayer) led by abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), I found him (the Imam) say Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) in every Salah (prayer); those which are said aloud as well as those said silently.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Prayer and pleading before Allah for help, repeals al- Qada ’, what is already determined, has already come down from heavens and is firmly established.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘For any favor that Allah may grant to any one of His servants, a small or a greater favor, if that servant says “All praise belongs to Allah,” has thanked Him properly.’”

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about a man who performs al-Hajj for others: if he is required to say any particular words. He (the Imam) said, ‘He must mention him in places designated for acts of al-Hajj.’”

1. Imam Musa Kadhim (a.s.) said, “One who supplicates for believers, the Almighty Allah appoints an angel for each believer to supplicate for that person.”

“Every prayer to Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, remains on hold and barred from heavens until he asks from Allah favors (in the form of al-Salat) for the Holy Prophet and his family.”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about how I should mention the name of Allah on food. He (the Imam) said, ‘If the dishes are more than one, then you should mention the name of Allah on each one.’ I then asked, ‘What happens if I forget mentioning the name of Allah?’ He (the Imam) told me to say, ‘In the name of Allah at its beginning and at its end.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that one should begin Tasbih of Fatimah, ‘Alayha al- Salam, with Takbir (Allah is great) thirty-four times, Tahmid (all praise belongs to Allah) thirty-three times and Tasbih (Allah is free of all defects) thirty-three times.”

“Say, ‘O Lord, increase my sustenance, prolong my life, forgive my sins and make me of those whom You employ to support Your religion and do not replace me by others.’”

“Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ’When a Muslim man wants to eat food and extends his hand saying, ’In the name of Allah’ and ‘All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds’ Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, forgives him before a morsel reaches his mouth.’”

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Plea for forgiveness, and the words: ‘No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah’ are the best forms of worship.’ Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Mighty, has said, ‘Notice that Allah is the only Lord who deserves to be worshipped. Ask forgiveness for your sins. . . .’” (47:19)

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘O Lord, assist me in the horror of the Day of Judgment, take me out of this world safely, pair me up with the beings having intensely white and deep black eyes ( hur al- ‘ Ayn ) suffice me my needs, the needs of my dependents and the needs of people and include me in Your kindness among Your virtuous servants.’”

I heard Aba Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “If Allah has given His slave great bounties then if he praises Allah for those bounties this praise is better and heavier than that bounty.”

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘If a people gather together in a place and do not speak of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, and do not ask from Allah favors al-Salat for His Holy Prophet, that gathering will become a regret and a loss for them (on the Day of Judgment).’”

“I once asked one of the two Imam, (abu Ja’far or abu ‘Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, about a man who misses one Rak’at Salat (prayer) with the Imam of Salat (prayer) in the days of Tashriq. He (the Imam) said, ’He completes his Salat (prayer) and then says Takhir.’ I then asked about Takhir after every Salat (prayer). He (the Imam) said, ‘As many times as you like. There is not anything definite in speaking of Allah.’” NOTE: Fatwa best explains Hadith 4-5 of this Chapter

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘You must bear in mind that whenever one of you likes to ask his Lord for help in worldly matters or of the next life, he must begin with praise of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, thank Him and ask His favors for the Holy Prophet and then ask for help.’”

“In the following words of Allah there is the expression ‘deprived’: ‘They are those who assign a certain share of their property (70:24) for the needy and the deprived.’ (70:25) Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘“Deprived” is a professional who no longer is able to benefit from the labor of his hands in business transactions.’” “In another Hadith it is narrated from abu Ja‘far and abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhim al-Salam, who have said, ‘Deprived is a person who has no problem in his understanding but is very tight in means of living.’”

“In the night of the attack of the confederate army against the Muslims this was the supplication of the Holy Prophet: ‘O the One to whom people in distress cry for help, O the One who answers the plea for help of the helpless people, O the One who removes my concern and anxiety, remove from me my anxiety, concern and trouble; You know my condition and the condition of my companions, suffice me the fear from my enemies.’”

"Be supplicating constantly, for there is nothing like it to take you nearer (to Allah). And do not avoid asking for small matters because of its smallness, for the provider of the small is also the provider of the big."

“Jamil narrated to me saying, ‘I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), “Is there a prayer of a particular timing that I should say at al-Safa’ and al-Marwah?” He (the Imam) replied, say, “No one other than Allah, who is One and has no partners, deserves worship. To Him belong the kingdom and all praise. He gives life and causes things to die and has power over all things - three times.’””
