صفوان بن حذيفة بن اليمان

Everything in this book that is narrated from Safwan ibn Yahya has been transmitted by me from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Ali ibn Ibrahim ibn Hashim, from his father, from Safwan ibn Yahya.

‘A woman divorced becomes stranger to him with the first drop of blood because of Hayd (menses) during the last Hayd (menses)-free period.’”

Everything in this book that is narrated from Safwan ibn Mihran Al-Jammal has been transmitted by me from Muhammad ibn Ali Majilawayh - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from his uncle Muhammad ibn Abi Al-Qasim, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid, from his father, from Ibn Abi 'Umayr, from Safwan ibn Mihran Al-Jammal. I have also narrated it from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Muhammad ibn Yahya Al-Attar, from Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Yahya, from Musa ibn Umar, from Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al-Hajjal, from Safwan ibn Mihran Al-Jammal.

“Whoever goes on the Hajj pilgrimage thrice will never suffer from poverty.”

“Whoever goes on the Hajj pilgrimage twice would always be in good conditions until he dies.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that no divorce, choice or al-Mubarat (disavowing) can take place without Hayd (menses)-free period, free from sexual intercourse and without the presence of witnesses.’”

And I do not know except that I have heard from Abu Shabl, that: Abu Abdullah (asws) said: ‘The one loves you due to what you are upon (Al-Wilayah), would enter the Paradise even if he never said anything similar to what you are saying’.

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: The least that a Zā`ir of Ḥusain (a.s.) gains is that every good deed will be registered as one million good deeds for him and every bad deed will be registered as (only) one. And how can one be compared to a million?! The Imam (a.s.) added: O Safwān! Rejoice, for verily Allāh has some angels who carry rods made of light and when the Keepers are about to register a bad deed for the Zā`ir of Ḥusain (a.s.), these angels tell the Keepers to stop. Therefore, the Keepers will not register the bad deed. However, once the Zā`ir performs a good deed, these angels tell the Keeper, “Register now! ‘They are the ones whom Allāh changes their bad deeds to good deeds” (25:70).

Ibrahim bin Yahya bin Abi Balad said: Imam Ridha (a.s) said: What did Hamza bin Bazi, the unfortunate one do? I replied: He has also come. Imam (a.s) said: He thinks that my father is alive, they [Hamza and his associates] are in doubt today and tomorrow they would not die, except as heretics. Safwan says: I said to myself: I knew that they are among doubters, but how can they die disbelievers and heretics? Not much time passed when I received information that one of them said at the time of his death: I am a disbeliever in my Lord who wants me to die. Safwan says: I said: This testifies for that same tradition [of the Imam].

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), once said, ‘Buy a camel for me, an ugly looking one, because it lives longer.’ I then bought for him (the Imam) a camel for eighty dirham and brought it to him (the Imam).” In another Hadith it is said that he (the Imam) said, ‘Buy the black and ugly looking one because it lives longer.’

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘Al-Muzdalifah had more insects than other lands of Allah. On the night of al-Tarwiyah, it was announced from Allah, ‘O insects, move away from where delegations to Allah are about to pass.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘The insects move in the hills in a way that they are not seen. When al-Hajj (pilgrims) return, they come back.’”

he heard abu Ja‘far (a.s.) say the following. “Would we not receive (new knowledge) we would diminish (in knowledge).” Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Khalid from Safwan from abu a1-Hassan (a.s.) a similar Hadith.

I heard Abu 'Abd Allah (a.s) saying: The death of a believer leaves a gap in religion.

1. [1/-] Rijal al-Kashshi: From Abi Talib Abdallah b. al-Salt al-Qummi who said: I entered in to see Abi Ja’far the Second [al-Jawad] عليه السلام towards the end of his life. I heard him saying: ‘May Allah grant a goodly recompense to Safwan b. Yahya, Muhammad b. Sinan and Zakariyya b. Adam on my behalf – for they have been loyal to me’, but he did not name Sa’d b. Sa’d. He [Abu Talib] said: I encountered Muwaffaq [a servant of al-Jawad] while leaving and said to him: My master mentioned Safwan, Muhammad b. Sinan and Zakariyya b. Adam supplicating for their good, but he did not name Sa’d b. Sa’d. He [Abu Talib] said: then I returned to him [i.e. the Imam] a second time and he said: ‘May Allah grant a goodly recompense to Safwan b. Yahya, Muhammad b. Sinan, Zakariyya b. Adam and Sa’d b. Sa’d on my behalf – for they have been loyal to me’.

I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)), “Is it obligatory to perform Ghusl before going to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.)?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “No.” The above Ḥadīth has also been narrated to me through the following chains: A) My father, from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Abī Khalaf, from Muḥammad ibn Ḥusain ibn Abil Kaťťāb, from Safwān (ibn Yaḥyā), from ‘Ǐs ibn Qāsim, from Abī ‘Abdillāh (a.s.). B) Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan, from Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan Al-Saffār, from Muḥammad ibn ‘Abdil Jabbār, from Safwān (ibn Yaḥyā), from ‘Ǐs (ibn Qāsim), from Abī ‘Abdillāh (a.s.).

“Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), has said, ‘The white beet is a very good vegetable.’”

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), if exchange of dirham for dirham and lead was permissible. He (the Imam) said, ‘Lead is not valid . 555

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Those who go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) seeking (nearness to) Allāh, the Great and Almighty, will be accompanied by Jabra`īl, Mīkā`īl, and Isrāfīl until they return to their homes.

“I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who wants to travel. Where is he required to apply the rules about journey? He (the Imam) said, ‘He must apply them where houses become invisible to him? I then asked, ‘A man begins his journey on Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime). What is he required to do? 5 He (the Imam) said, ‘When you come out perform two Rak‘at Salah prayers).’ Also al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id has narrated from, Safwan and Fadalah from al-‘Ala’ a similar Hadith.”

“I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘There was a woman in al-Madinah and people left their slave-girls with her to train them. We said that there is no one on whom wealth is poured as it is poured before her.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is because she spoke the truth, returned the trust safely and that is what attracts wealth.’ Safwan has said, ‘I heard this Hadith from Hafs later on.’”
