7. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from ibn Mahbub from al-Fadl ibn Yunus who has said the following
“Abu al-Hassan, Musa (a.s.), has said, ‘It is not obligatory upon a slave to perform al-Hajj or al-‘Umrah until he is free.’”
7ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ يُونُسَ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ مُوسَى (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَم) قَالَ
لَيْسَ عَلَى الْمَمْلُوكِ حَجٌّ وَلا عُمْرَةٌ حَتَّى يُعْتَقَ.

4. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from ibn Sama‘ah from ‘Abd Allah ibn Jabalah from ibn Bukayr from ‘Ubayd ibn Zurarah who has said the following
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘One’s divorcing during his illness is not permissible, however, his marriage is permissible.’”

1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Dawud ibn al-Huseen from abu al-‘Abbas who has said the following
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Without fast ’I‘tikaf is not valid.’”
1ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ الْحُصَيْنِ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَم) قَالَ
لا اعْتِكَافَ إِلاَّ بِصَوْمٍ.

11. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Sama‘ah who has said the following
“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘What should people do if ‘Arafat becomes full?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘They can go higher toward the hills.’” NOTE: (Fatwa best explains Hadith 11 of this Chapter)
11ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ قَالَ
قُلْتُ لأَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَم) إِذَا ضَاقَتْ عَرَفَةُ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُونَ قَالَ يَرْتَفِعُونَ إِلَى الْجَبَلِ.

3. Sahl ibn Ziyad has narrated from ibn Mahbub and Ahmad ibn Muhammad in a Muzmar manner who has said the following
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘A woman, who dies during her child-birth with a great deal of blood discharge, is placed in a clean bag of treated skin up to her bellybutton; then she is shrouded.’”
3ـ سَهْلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ وَأَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ فِي الْمَرْأَةِ إِذَا مَاتَتْ نُفَسَاءَ وَكَثُرَ دَمُهَا أُدْخِلَتْ
إِلَى السُّرَّةِ فِي الأدَمِ أَوْ مِثْلِ الأدَمِ نَظِيفٍ ثُمَّ تُكَفَّنُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ.

3. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from al-Washsha’ who has said the following
“I heard al-Rida’ (a.s.), say, ’The condition wherein a servant of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, is nearest and closest to Him is in Sajdah. It is because of the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, “Prostrate (do Sajdah) and become close.’””
3ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ الرِّضَا يَقُولُ أَقْرَبُ مَا يَكُونُ الْعَبْدُ مِنَ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَهُوَ سَاجِدٌ وَذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ.

طَوَافٌ قَبْلَ الْحَجِّ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ سَبْعِينَ طَوَافٍ بَعْدَ الْحَجِّ.

1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from ibn Mahbub from ibn Ri’ab from Misma’ who has said the following
“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘All of ‘Arafat is al-Mawqaf (the station) and the best of it is the foot of the hill.’”
1ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنِ ابْنِ رِئَابٍ عَنْ مِسْمَعٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَم) قَالَ
عَرَفَاتٌ كُلُّهَا مَوْقِفٌ وَأَفْضَلُ الْمَوْقِفِ سَفْحُ الْجَبَلِ.

6. Sahl ibn Ziyad has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Uramah from Ali ibn Maysarah from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that a husband is more rightful to place his wife in the grave.”
6ـ سَهْلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أُورَمَةَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ
الزَّوْجُ أَحَقُّ بِامْرَأَتِهِ حَتَّى يَضَعَهَا فِي قَبْرِهَا.

10ـ حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَيَابَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ
سُلَّ الْمَيِّتَ سَلاًّ.

5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Ziyad ibn Marwan who has said the following
“People in Makkah suffered plague. I wrote to abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about it and he (the Imam) wrote to me and said to eat apples.”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ مَرْوَانَ قَالَ
أَصَابَ النَّاسَ وَبَاءٌ بِمَكَّةَ فَكَتَبْتُ إِلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) فَكَتَبَ إِلَيَّ كُلِ التُّفَّاحَ .

“Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), has said, ‘It is of the well-being of a man who on moving aside the veil of a woman finds her white.’”

مِنْ سَعَادَةِ الرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَكْشِفَ الثَّوْبَ عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ بَيْضَاءَ.

الْبَذَاءُ مِنَ الْجَفَاءِ وَالْجَفَاءُ فِي النَّارِ.

8. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad in a marfu‘ manner who has said the following
“It was said to him (the Imam), ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, because of the presence of fear I may not be able to place al-Jaridah (twig of palm tree) as you have told us.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Place them just as it is possible for you to do.’”
8ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ
قِيلَ لَهُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ رُبَّمَا حَضَرَنِي مَنْ أَخَافُهُ فَلاَ يُمْكِنُ وَضْعُ الْجَرِيدَةِ عَلَى مَا رَوَيْتَنَا قَالَ أَدْخِلْهَا حَيْثُ مَا أَمْكَنَ.
