Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “One who repents a sin is like one who has not committed any sin, but one who continues to commit sins while he has repented is making a fool out of himself.”

1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) said, “The sins of the lovers of Ahle Bayt (a.s.) are destroyed in the same way as dry leaves of a tree fall off due to wind.”

following to a man: “Make your heart a virtuous companion for yourself or like a child who does not fail to maintain good relations with parents. Consider your deeds as your father whom you follow, consider your soul as your enemy against whom you strive and consider your properties as borrowed for the safe return of which you are responsible.”

Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) has said the following: “Whoever enjoys a virtuous deed and is disgusted with a sin is a believer.”

“Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Qunut (supplication after recitation) in al-Witr is asking for forgiveness and in obligatory Salah (prayer) it is to ask for your wishes.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘One who pleas for forgiveness often, his book of record of deeds is raised and it shines brilliantly.’”

“O' Abu Muhamad! Always be pious, strive to worship and be honest. Strive to return what you are entrusted with. Fall in prostration for long periods of time. These deeds are the good deeds for those who lived before.” Abi Basir said: “I heard the Imam (a.s) say: Those who always return to God are the ones who repent.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘When the sins of a servant (of Allah) increase and he does not have enough good deeds to expiate them, Allah causes him to suffer sadness and depression.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Allah loves the servant who is put to trial (by sin) and repents, however, one without such (sinful) condition is better.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘A believer may suffer a nightmare so his sins are forgiven or is bodily humiliated so his sins are forgiven.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘If one says, “I plead for forgiveness before Allah” one hundred times every day, Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, will forgive his seven hundred sins, but there is nothing good in a servant (of Allah) who commits seven hundred sins a day.’”

1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) narrates that a community had committed a number of sins. However they stopped committing them after a period and began to fear those sins a lot. Some people came forward and said, “Your sins are around our necks.” The Almighty Allah sent chastisement on them and said: “Those people used to fear Me and you tried to be haughty.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) has said, “Avoiding sin is easier than pleading for forgiveness. How many are the cases of very short period of lustful activities that cause prolonged sadness. Death disgraces the world (uncovers its worthlessness) and it has not left any happiness for the people of proper understanding.’”

“Guard against al-Muhaqqarat (sins); they will not be forgiven.’ I then asked the Imam, ‘What is al-Muhaqqarat ?’ The Imam said, ‘A man commits a sin and says, “I will have Tuba (a tree in paradise) if I did not have any other sins.’”

Abu `Abdillah al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) said: Surely, when the believer has a nightmare, he is forgiven of his sins. When his body becomes ill, his sins are forgiven.

"When the sins of a servant of Allah multiply and grow in number, and he has nothing to expiate his sins with, Allah tests him with sorrow and grief, and thus expiate his sins."

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Every believer may have a sin and he shuns it for a period of time, then he commits it again and this is that which is mentioned in the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, as ‘Except al-Lamam’ (the sins committed from time to time).’ The narrator has said that I asked the Imam about the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, ‘. . . those who avoid the major sins and the indecent acts, except the al- Lamam .’ (53:33) The Imam said, ‘Indecent acts are fornication and theft and al-Lamam is that which a man commits, and then pleads before Allah for forgiveness.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one becomes ill for three days and does not inform anyone about it, Allah, the Majestic, the Glorious, changes his flesh into a better flesh, his blood into a better blood, his skin into a better skin and his hair into better hair.’ I then asked, ’May Allah keep my soul in the service of your cause, how does He do it?’ He said, ‘He changes it into flesh, blood, hair and skin which has not committed any sin.”’

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘When Allah wills good for a servant upon his committing a sin He causes it to be followed by a misfortune to remind him of the need to plead for forgiveness. When Allah wills evil for a servant upon his committing a sin He causes it to be followed by his gaining bounties that make him forget the need to plead for forgiveness and continue in sin. This is indicated in the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, ‘We gradually lead those who have called Our revelations mere lies, to destruction. Their destruction will be such that they will not even notice how it seized them.’ (7:182) This happens to them by means of His granting them bounties when they commit sins.’”

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sadiq (a.s.)) said: Verily (on the Day of ‘Arafah), Allāh, the Blessed and the Exalted, manifests (His Mercy) to the Zuwwār of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) before He does (so) for the people who are in ‘Arafāt. He fulfils their needs, forgives their sins, and accepts their intercession for their requests. Thereafter, He attends to the people in ‘Arafāt and honours them in the same way.
