Everything in this book that is narrated from Abu Al-Mughira Humayd ibn Al-Muthanna Al-Ajli has been transmitted by me from my father - may Allah (swt) have mercy on him - from Sad ibn Abdullah, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn ibn Abi Al-Khaṭṭab, from Uthman ibn Isa, from Abu Al-Mughira Humayd ibn Al-Muthanna Al-Ajli. He was a trustworthy Arab from Kufa and had authored a book.

Everything in this book that is narrated from Sama'ah ibn Mihran has been transmitted by me from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Ali ibn Ibrahim ibn Hashim, from his father, from Uthman ibn Isa Al-Amiri, from Sama'ah ibn Mihran.

2. Imam Zainul Abideen (a.s.) narrates from Imam Husain (a.s.) that Amirul Momineen (a.s.) said, “Paradise is prohibited for three types of people – a slanderer, a murderer and a drunkard.”

“A person who double-talks and is double-faced is doing very badly indeed. He does not get tired of praising his brother on his face but always backbites him. He becomes jealous when his brother gets some bounty and does not help him when he is in trouble.”

The Commander of the Believers (a.s.) asked me, “Do you go and establish prayers in the mosque that is behind your house?” I replied, “O Commander of the Believers! Only women go to that mosque.” The Commander of the Believers (a.s.) said, “O Mālik! No anguished person goes to this mosque, prays in it, and supplicates to Allāh without Allāh relieving him of his grief and granting him his request.” Mālik added: I swear to Allāh that I did not go to that mosque nor did I pray in it until one night when I was extremely grieved over a matter. Suddenly, I remembered the words of the Commander of the Believers (a.s.). I got up in the middle of the night and performed WUĎŪ`. When I left the house, I found a lamp outside the door of my house. The lamp started moving (on its own) and I followed it until I arrived at the mosque. The lamp stopped in front of me so I prayed there. After I finished (praying), the lamp started moving in front of me until I arrived at my home but it disappeared as soon as I entered my home. After this night, every time I would leave my house, I would find this lamp leading my way and Allāh granted my request.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that Allah, the most Blessed, the most High, has delegated all affairs of believers to them except their humiliating themselves.”

he heard abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) say the following: “What is wrong with you? Why do you disappoint the Messenger of Allah (sw)?” A man asked, “How do we disappoint him?” He (a.s.) replied, “Do you not know that your deeds are presented before him? When he find sins in them it disappoints him. So do not disappoint the Messenger of Allah, rather make him happy.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Whenever you are about to sleep in your bed say, “In the name of Allah, I have placed my right side (for Allah) according to the Millah (tradition and culture) of Ibrahim, submitted to the will of Allah and I am not of the pagans.’”

“Once I asked permission to see abu Ja’far (a.s.) and he came out while his lips were moving. I then asked him about it and he said, ‘Did you, O al-Thumali, notice it?’ I said, ‘Yes, may Allah keep my soul in service for your cause, I did.’ The Imam said, ‘By Allah, I spoke the words that no one before had ever spoken, but that Allah had sufficed him in things important to him of worldly matters or of hereafter.’ I (the narrator) then said, ‘Please tell me about it.’ The Imam said, ‘Whoever when coming out of his house says, “In the name of Allah, enough for me is Allah, I place my trust in Allah. O Lord, I ask You to grant me all good in my affairs. I seek protection with You against the humiliation in this world and of torment in the next life,” Allah will suffice him in all that is important to him of worldly or of hereafter.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Control your tongues and stay home, no one will ever disturb you in particular. Zaydi people are still a protection for you and they will always be as such.’”

“Once I, abu Basir and Muhammad ibn ‘Imran the slave of abu Ja‘far (a.s.) were in his house in Makka. Muhammad ibn ‘Imran said, “I have heard abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) say, ‘We all twelve of us are Muhaddath (the ones to whom angels speak).” Abu Basir then said, “Did you hear abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) say so? He made him to swear one or twice that he has heard so. Abu Basir then said, “However, I have heard it from abu Ja‘far (a.s.).”

“I asked the Imam about belief and Islam, inquiring, ‘Is there a difference between Islam and belief?’ The Imam said, ‘I can give an example.’ I said, ‘Please do so.’ He said, ‘The case of belief and Islam is like the Holy Ka’ba and the Sacred precinct. One may have entered the Sacred precinct but not the Holy Ka’ba. One cannot enter the Holy Ka’ba before entering the Sacred precinct. One may become a Muslim but he may not yet be a believer. However, one cannot become a believer before becoming a Muslim.’ I (the narrator) then asked, ‘Can one go out of belief to anything?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ I asked, ‘What then does one become?’ He said, ‘One may go out to Islam or rejection (disbelief).’ He then said, ‘If a man enters the Holy Ka’ba and his urine comes out he is taken out of the Holy Ka’ba but he will not be taken out of the Sacred precinct. He washes his cloth and purifies and then he is not stopped from entering the Holy Ka’ba. However, if a man enters the Holy Ka’ba and urinates therein out of animosity he is taken out of the Holy Ka’ba and the Sacred Mosque and is decapitated.’”

“I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about a man who is standing in obligatory Salah (prayer) when he remembers his bag or property and he is afraid of loss or destruction of such items. He (the Imam) said, ‘He can discontinue his Salah (prayer) to secure such items then perform his Salah (prayer) again.’ I then asked him (the Imam), ‘What happens if he is in obligatory Salah (prayer) when a stumper (animal) or his stumper escapes and he is afraid of its getting lost or causing him difficulties?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful if he discontinues his Salah (prayer).”’

“I once asked abu Ja’far (a.s.), about the shawl made by Zoroastrians if I can perform Salah (prayer) with it. He (the Imam) asked, ‘Can it be washed with water?’ I replied, ‘Yes, it can be washed.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not an offense to perform Salah (prayer) with it.’ I then asked about cloths made by the weavers if I can perform Salah (prayer) with it. He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, you can do so.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is desirable for the Imam who delivers sermons for the people on Friday to wear turban in winter and a Yamaniy or ‘Adaniy gown. He must deliver the sermon in a standing position. In it he praises Allah and speaks of His glory, then advises people to observe piety (taqwa’) before Allah, reads a small Surah (chapter) from al-Quran. He then sits down, then stands up and praises Allah, speaks of His glory and says Salawat, (O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause). He prays for the Imam of the Muslims and asks forgiveness from Allah for the believers, male and female. When he completes the sermon the caller readies people for Salah (prayer) and the Imam performs Salah (prayer) of two Rak‘at. In the first Rak‘at he reads Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah after al-Fatihah, and in the second Rak‘at Surah (chapter) al-Munafiqun after al-Fatihah.”’

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘On Friday night recite Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah and Sabbih Isma Rabbika al-‘A‘la In Friday morning recite Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah and Chapter 112, and in Friday Salah (prayer) recite Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah and al-Munafiqun.’”

“I asked (Imam) Abu al-Hassan Musa (a.s.) about the use of analogy and the Imam said, ‘What do you have to do with analogy? Allah is not asked about how he made things lawful or unlawful.’”

“I explained to Imam abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) saying ‘What is the matter with people who narrate from so and so from the holy Prophet (s.w) whom they do not accuse of telling lies and thing and from you facts against it comes to light? The Imam (a.s.) said, “Hadith becomes abrogated just as it happens with the holy Quran.’”

“I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about performing Salat (prayer) in complete form and fasting in the two al-Haram (the sacred places); Masjid al-Haram and Masjid of al-Madinah. He (the Imam) said, ‘You should perform Salat (prayer) in complete form, even if it is one Salat (prayer).”’

“He (the Imam) (a.s.), said, ‘You must not perform Salah (prayer) in places where horses, mules and donkeys are kept.’”
