1. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) says, “One who lights a lamp in the mosque of Allah the people of heaven and Allah’s angels seek repentance for that person till the time that lamp is on in the mosque.”

"A second glance after the first plants desire in the heart, and that is sufficient as a trial for its beholder."

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Maintain good relations among yourselves, do good to one another, be compassionate and lenient to each other.’”

"I wrote to Abu al-Hasan (al-Kadhim) (as) with a supplication containing, 'Praise be to God to the extent of His knowledge', so he wrote back to me saying: Do not say 'the extent of His knowledge,' for His knowledge has no end. Rather, say, 'the extent of His pleasure.'"

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about Ghusl (bath) for a dead body. He (the Imam) said, Turn the bottom of the sole of the dead body’s feet toward al-Qiblah (al-Ka‘bah) which makes the dead body facing al-Qiblah (al-Ka‘bah). Thereafter, soften the joints of the bones of the dead body if possible; if not then leave them alone. First wash the private parts with water mixed with Sidr (berry leaves) and al-Huruz. (saltwort), You must give it three Ghusl (baths). Use plenty of water. Rub the belly of the dead body gently. Turn to the head. Begin with the right side of the beard and head, then the left side of the head, beard and face gently and avoid roughing it up. Wash with softness. Then make it lie down on the left side, so the right side is exposed to you. Wash it from head to the toes and rub gently the back and belly, wash it three times; then turn it on its right side to expose the left side to wash it from the head to the toes; rub its back and belly gently and wash it three times. Reach out to its underarms, arms and shoulder with your hand and make its side clean. Whenever you wash, reach with your hand under his shoulders and the inside of his arms. Thereafter make the dead body lie down on its back; then begin with the private parts with water mixed with camphor and do as you did before. Wash it three times with water mixed with camphor and al-Huruz (saltwort) and rub the belly of the dead body gently. You must then turn to the head and face and do as you did before on both sides, the head and face with water mixed with camphor three times. You must then turn it on its left side, so its right side is exposed. You must then wash it from head to the toes three times. Thereafter you must turn it on its right side to expose its left side. You must then wash it from its head to its toes three times, and push your hand under the shoulder bones of the dead body and arms. The arms and hands must be cleansed along with the sides. Whenever you wash anything, push your hand under the shoulder bones of the dead body and inside of the arms. You must then turn it on its back. You must then wash it with pure water as you did before. You must begin with the private parts, then turn to the head, beard and face to do what you did before with pure water. You must then wrap it with a piece of fabric from the waist down with a great deal of cotton underneath. You must then tie the thighs with a piece of fabric tightly, so nothing can come out. You must not make the dead body sit up or press its belly. You must not fill up the ears with something but if you are afraid of something coming out of the nostrils, you may fill it with cotton; but if you are not afraid do not fill it up with anything. Do not clean underneath the nails of the dead body: and so also is Ghusl (bath) for women.’”

“O people, interconnect and be pious and kind to each other! By Him, Who has split the seed and created man, that a time will come to you that none of you will find a place for his dinar and dirham.” Al-Kahili asked him: “And when will that be?” He said: “When you miss your imam and you remain so for a time until he appears to you like the sun while you are so desperate. Beware to doubt and suspect. Drive doubts away from yourselves. I have warned you, so be careful! I pray Allah to guide you and to make you succeed.”

“I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), ‘What is the limit of going out to meet a caravan of suppliers?’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘It is a distance of one Rawhah (four Farasikh which is equal to six miles)”’

"I said to Abu Al-Hasan Imam Musa ibn Jafar Al-Kadhim (as): ‘My wife and my sister, who is the wife of Muhammad ibn Marid, go out to mourning gatherings. I prohibited them, but they said to me, 'If it is forbidden, we will refrain, but if it is not forbidden, why do you prevent us when people refrain from fulfilling our rights (if we do not attend)?’ Imam (as) replied: 'You ask me about rights? My father (as) used to send my mother and Umm Farwah to fulfil the rights of the people of Medina.'

“Abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) has said, ‘If a people would worship Allah only Who has no partner, maintain the prayers, pay Zakat, perform Hajj of the House and fast in the month of Ramadan but say about something that Allah or the Messenger of Allah has done, would that it had been done differently or find such feelings in their hearts in this they will be considered as polytheists. He then recited this verse of the Holy Quran. “I swear by your Lord that they will not be considered believers until they let you judge their disputes and then they will find nothing in their souls to prevent them from accepting your judgment, thus, submitting themselves to the will of God.” (4:65). Abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) then said, “You have to be submissive (before Allaah).”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘ Aqiqah is not like the animal offering for al-Hajj. The fat one is better for Aqiqah.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When they breastfeed for you do not allow them to drink wine.’”

I asked Abu Abdullah (as) about women in the state of ihram. Imam (as) said: "They may prepare themselves in whatever manner they wish. When they reach the tree (Miqat), they enter ihram for Hajj and recite the Talbiyah at the marker at the beginning of al-Bayda. Then they are brought to Mecca, where they should hasten to perform tawaf and sa‘i. Once they complete their tawaf and sa‘i, they trim their hair and exit ihram, performing tamattu‘. On the Day of Tarwiyah (8th of Dhu al-Hijjah), they enter ihram for Hajj, thus combining ‘Umrah and Hajj. If they encounter any ailment, they remain upon their Hajj and do not separate their Hajj from their ‘Umrah."

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Those who want to be honoured by Allāh and to be included in the intercession of Muḥammad (s.a.a.w.) on the Day of Judgment should go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.). (By doing so) Allāh will honour them with the best of honours and rewards and He will not question them for any sins they have committed during their life, even if they are as great (in number) as the grains of sand, the scum in the seas, or the mountains of Tihāmah. Verily Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.) was wronged and killed unjustly while he, his family, and his companions were thirsty.

A man asked Imam (as) in my presence about a garment dyed with safflower (‘usfur) that has been washed. "Can I wear it while in the state of Ihram?" Imam (as) replied: "Yes, safflower is not considered a fragrance. However, I dislike for you to wear something that makes you stand out among people."

I heard Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s) say: If someone informs you that my son has fallen ill and that he has witnessed his death and attended his funeral, do not believe him, because there is no option, except that this matter should come to Imam Kadhim (a.s). Meanwhile Muhammad bin Ziyad Tamimi [a companion of Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s)], who was present in Mecca, heard this and said: O Abu Yahya (agnomen of Abdullah Kahili) by God, this is a great evil. Kahili replied: Part of God in this matter is greater, while he is an old man, he would be concealed from the people and he would return as a young man, and in this he would be following the practice of Prophet Yunus (a.s).

a man asked him a question while I was present about cutting the tails of sheep. Imam (as) said: "There is no harm in cutting them if you are doing so to improve your wealth." Then Imam (as) said: "Indeed, in the book of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as), it is written: 'Whatever is cut from a living animal is considered dead and should not be used.'"

I wrote to Abu al-Hasan al-Rida (AS) regarding a supplication: “All praise be to Allah whose Knowledge has ended.” Hence, he replied to me: “Do not say that `His Knowledge ended;’ however, you can say that `His Pleasure has ended.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘If a people worship Allah alone and do not consider anything as His partner, perform the prayer, pay al-Zakat (charity), perform Hajj of the Sacred House, fast in the month of Ramadan and then say about something Allah has done or the Holy Prophet has done, “Why not is it done as such and such?” Or they find such things in their hearts, for this they will turn into Mushrik, considering things as partners of Allah.’ The Imam then read this verse of the Holy Quran: ‘I swear by your Lord that they will not be considered believers until they allow you to settle their disputes and then they will find nothing in their souls to prevent them from accepting your judgment, thus, submitting themselves to the will of Allah.’ (4:65) Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) then said, ‘You must submit yourselves (to the command of Allah)”’

"Do not place her in your lap."

he said: "A woman in Ihram may wear all types of jewelry except conspicuous earrings (al-qurt al-mashhoor) and a conspicuous necklace (al-qiladah al-mashhoorah)."
