I asked Abut `Abd Allah al-Sadiq (AS) about the meaning of Bismillah al-Rahman alRahim; hence, he (AS) responded, The Ba * is the brilliance {baha] of Allah. The sin * is the splendor [sama] of Allah. The mim * is the magnificence [majd] of Allah, and some have related that it is the Kingdom [mulk] of Allah. Allah is the God of Everything. AlRahman is the Beneficent to all His creation, an al-Rahim is the One who is Merciful to the Believes specifically.

he said: "It is the duty of the Imam to bring out those imprisoned for debt on Fridays and for Eid prayers. He should send someone to accompany them, and once they have completed the prayer and the Eid rituals, they should be returned to prison."

I was with Abu Abdillah, peace be upon him, in the home (of his), sitting under the drain, while one man was quarreling with another man, and one of them was saying to his companion: By Allah, do you not know where the wind runs from? When he had said that much to him, Abu Abdillah, peace be upon him, said to him: And do you know from where the winds runs? He said: No, but I hear the people say. I then said to Abu Abdillah, peace be upon him: From where does the wind run, may I be sacrificed for you? He said: Indeed, the wind is constrained under this Levantine pillar, and when Allah, Exalted and Glorious is He, wants to send off some of it, He makes it come out: if it is (to be towards the) south, it is south; if it is (to be towards the) north, it is north; if it is (to be) cast fiercely, it is cast fiercely; and if it is (to be) mild, it is mild. He then said: The sign of that is that you still see this pillar moving during winter and summer, continuously, at the night along with the day.

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘The Messenger of Allah has said, “Raise your voices with al-Salat (asking from Allah favors for me); it removes hypocrisy.’”

“About the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘Complete al-Hajj and al-‘Umrah for the sake of Allah,’ (2:195) he (the Imam) (a.s.), has said, ‘The completion means, no sexual relation, lying and swearing in al-Hajj.’”

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘You must not attach your wet clothes to your body, when you are fasting, before you wring them.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Any believing person who takes another believing person before a judge or Sultan of injustice who then judges by means of something other than what Allah has sent, he becomes his (judge’s) partner in the sin.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Taking an oath in anger does not have any valid effect or to cut off relations with relatives, by Jabr (force) or Ikrah (coercion, dislike).’ I (the narrator) then asked saying, ‘I pray to Allah to keep you well, what is the difference between forced and coerced?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Force is by Sultan, coercion or dislike is from the wife, mother or father and that does not have any valid effect.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘An oath in anger or to cut off relations with relatives, by Jabr (force) or Ikrah (coercion, dislike) does not have any valid effect.’ I (the narrator) then asked saying, ‘I pray to Allah to keep you well, what is the difference between forced and coerced?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Force is by Sultan coercion or dislike is from the wife, mother or father and that does not have any valid effect.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a woman who in her dream finds a man who engages in an intercourse with her until she experiences orgasm. He (the Imam) said, ‘She must take Ghusl (bath).”’ According to another Hadith, she must take Ghusl (bath) but must not inform others to avoid ridicule.

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘A man only drinks water but Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, for that reason admits him in paradise.’ I then asked, ‘How can that happen, O child of the Messenger of Allah?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘The man drinks water, stops drinking, moves the bowl away when he still has the desire for water, and he praises Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious. He then drinks again, then moves the bowl of water away when he still has the desire for water, then praises Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, then drinks more water and, thus, Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, makes paradise necessary for him.’”

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘My father purchased a piece of land from Hisham ibn ‘Abd al-Malik for such and such hundred thousand dinar with a condition that he will pay its Zakat for ten years. He did it as such because Hisham was the ruler.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘One who trims his mustache and fingernails and washes his head with marshmallow on Friday, he is like one who sets free a human being.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that when you are in the seventh Tawaf and come to al- Muta‘awwadh, which is the place behind al-Ka‘bah opposite to the door you should say this: ‘O Lord, the House is Your House, the servant is Your servant, and this is the place in which he seeks to have Your protection against the fire. O Lord, from You is comfort and ease.’ Then touch al-Yemaniy corner; then go to the Black Stone and complete your Tawaf at that point.’” (Ahadith 2-3 of this Chapter are best explained in the form of fatwa).

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who comes for al-Hajj and the heat is intense so he performs Tawaf around al-Ka‘bah and delays Sa‘iy until it becomes cooler. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful. I also may have done so.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who is for al-Hajj al-Tamattu‘ (advantageous) and forgets Taqsir (cutting some hair or finger nails and so on) until he assumes the state of Ihram for al-Hajj. He (the Imam) said, ‘He must ask forgiveness from Allah.”’

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘The shroud is paid for from the whole of the legacy.”’

If the creditors agree, the deceased becomes free from responsibility.”’

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a brother from a father and grandfather. He (the Imam) said, ‘The legacy between them is distributed in equal shares.’”

“He (the Imam) (a.s.), has said, ‘One performing ’Ttikaf in Makkah can perform Salat (prayer) in any of its houses or Masjid; it is all the same.’”
