صالح بن محمد الصرامي

Abul Ḥasan (Imam Riďā (a.s.)) said: Those who come to my Ziyārah, even though my house is far and my grave is distant, will be visited by me on three occasions on the Day of Judgment and I will save them from its terrors: when the books will be spread to the right and left, at the Bridge, and by the Scale. Sa’d added: Later, I heard this Ḥadīth from Sāliḥ ibn Muḥammad Al-Hamdāni himself.

What I love the most in this world are women and perfume. And praying lights up my eyes.”

A good attitude, good looks and being frugal are three of the forty-five parts of Prophethood.”

“There will be occultation for the master of this affair. During this time those who remain attached to their religion will be like those who rub their hands on a thorny branch. Then he gestured and said: There is occultation for the master of this affair and every person is duty-bound to fear Allah and remain attached to his religion.”

“The man of this matter will disappear for a period of time, during which one, who still keeps to his religion, is like one, who lathes thorns of al-Qatad with his bare hand. Which of you can grasp at the thorns of al-Qatad?” Then he pondered for a while and said: “The man of this matter will disappear for a time so people are to fear Allah and to keep to their faith.” The same was narrated by Muhammad bin Ya’qoob al-Kulayni from Muhammad bin Yahya and al-Hasan bin Muhammad from Ja’far bin Muhammad al-Kufi from al-Hasan bin Muhammad as-Sayrafi from Salih bin Khalid from Yaman at-Tammar. Who is this one, who will disappear, but the expected Imam? Who is this one, whose birth and early life most of people will doubt? Who is this one, whom people will be indifferent to and will not believe in his rising nor in his existence even? It is he, whom the infallibles imam (as) have mentioned and described his loyal believers during his disappearance as ones, who grasp at the thorns of al-Qatad with bare hands. It is this little sincere group that is distinguished from the great masses of people, whose fancies have taken them too far away and whose hearts have become too narrow to bear the truth and its bitterness. They find themselves unable to believe in the existence of the Imam while his person is absent and his disappearance has lasted long. Only the little group has believed and kept on believing in the expected Imam (as) following, by that, the saying of Amirul Mo’mineen (as): “Do not feel desolate in the way of guidance when its followers are very few!”

The people of Heaven are divided into one-hundred and twenty groups, eighty of which are my followers.”

Whoever faces our Qibla (prayer direction), prays the way we pray, and eats what we slaughter is one of us and is our partner.”

“I asked, ‘O Prophet of God! How was the beginning of your affair?’ The Prophet (MGB) replied, ‘The prayers of my (great grand)father Abraham (MGB); the glad tidings of Jesus - the son of Mary (MGB); and the dream of my mother who saw that a ray of light extending out of her body and illuminating the palaces in Syria.’”

“I was in the presence of abu Ja‘far al-Thani (a.s.) that Salih ibn Muhammad ibn Sahl came and he was his supervisor of endowments in Qumm. He said, “My master, wave to me ten thousand because I have already spent it.” The Imam (a.s.) said, “It is waved in your favor.” When Salih left then abu Ja‘far (a.s.) said as herein below. “Once one of them gets his hand on the property that belongs to Ahl al-Bayt of Muhammad (s.a), to their orphans, their destitute, to their needy and to those of them who become needy on a journey and then he comes to us and says, “Wave it in my favor.” Do you think I can say, “No, I will not wave it in your favor?” By Allah, Allah will soon ask them on the Day of Judgment without any concession.”

I was with Abi Ja`far the Second [al-Jawad] عليه السلام when Salih b. Muhammad b. Sahl entered to see him – and he [Salih] used to oversee the Waqf [endowments] for him in Qum – he [Salih] said: O my master! relieve me and do not hold me to account over ten thousand [Dirhams] for I have spent it, he [the Imam] said to him: you are relieved [not liable to hand it over]. When Salih had left Abu Ja`far عليه السلام said: one of them receives the wealth which is the right of the family of Muhammad, their orphans, poor, needy, travelers who are stranded – takes it [for himself] then comes and says: ‘relieve me’. Look at him – he thought that I would say: ‘no I will not’, by Allah! Allah will ask them about that on the day of judgment with a swift reckoning.

I was in the presence of Imam Muhammad Taqi (a.s) when Salih bin Muhammad bin Sahal Hamadani, who was the trustee of the affairs of Imam (a.s) entered and asked the Holy Imam (a.s): May I be sacrificed on you, I have spent ten thousand dirhams [from the monies I should have brought to you]. Will you make them lawful for me? Imam (a.s) said: It is lawful. When he went away Imam Jawad (a.s) said: One of you misappropriates and spends the money, from the share of Aale Muhammad (a.s), the poor, deprived and the stranded travelers; he disputes about it and spends from it then asks me: Please make it lawful for me! Do you or he think that I would say ‘No’? By God, on Judgment Day Allah would ask them very difficult questions.

O people! There will be no Prophet after me and there will be no nation after you. Thus, worship your Lord. Say your five times of prayers. Fast during your month of fasting. Go on the Hajj pilgrimage of the House of your Lord! Pay the alms-tax on your property thereby purify yourselves and obey those in charge of your affairs and enter the Paradise of your Lord!”
