زياد بن مروان

Everything in this book that is narrated from Ziyad ibn Marwan Al-Qandi has been transmitted by me from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Sa'd ibn Abdullah, from Muhammad ibn 'Isa ibn 'Ubayd and Ya'qub ibn Yazid, from Ziyad ibn Marwan Al-Qandi.

Abu Abdullah (asws) having said that: ‘Allah (azwj) has an Angel, whose span between his ear lobe to his shoulder is of five hundred years of the travel distance of a bird’.

In fact, Ziyad ibn Marwan al-Qandi narrated this tradition. But he later denied it after Musa (s) passed away. He became one of the Vaqafites and confiscated whatever he had that belonged to Musa ibn Ja’far (s).

"The hand of a thief is not to be cut off during a year of famine for stealing anything edible, such as bread, meat, or cucumbers."

“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘A people who are evil doers and not of the virtuous ones but maintain good relations with relatives, their wealth increases, and they live longer. Can one imagine their benefits had they been virtuous and of good deeds?”’

The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Islam is bare. Its dress is modesty, its ornament is dignity, its good deed is chivalry, and its support is piety. Everything has a foundation, and the foundation of Islam is loving us, the Ahl al-Bayt.

“The cry (from the Heaven), the rising of as-Sufyani, the rising of al-Yamani, killing the pure innocent man and a hand appearing in the sky will be inevitable. There will be also a fright in Ramadan, which will awaken the sleepers, terrify the awake and bring the girls out of their veils.”

“I wrote to abu al-Hassan the first (a.s.), to teach me a supplication. I am suffering from a situation - he was imprisoned in Baghdad. They had accused him in matters of their properties. The Imam wrote to him instructing him to say it in Salah (prayer), in a prolonged prostration. ‘O the One who does not need anyone ’ - for one breathe, then say, ‘O the One to whom pleading does not do anything but to increase His generosity and grace.’ Say it for one breath, then say, ‘O Lord of lords, You are the One, You are the One and You are the One in whom there is hope while from all others all hope is cut off, O most High, most Great.’ Ziyad has said, T practiced the above supplication and my hardships were removed and I was set free.’” (The following chapters are best explained by fatwa.)

“Yes, it is. Killing the pure innocent man, the sinking of the desert, the appearance of a hand in the sky, the call that comes from the Heaven and the appearance of al-Qa’im are also inevitable.” It was said to him: “What is the call?” He said: “A caller calling out the name of al-Qa’im and the name of his father (as).”

“Verily, Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, has created an angel who is so huge that it would take a fluttering bird five hundred years to fly from its earlobe to its neck.”

Abul Ḥasan Mūsā (Imam Kāżim (a.s.)) said to me, “I love for you that which I love for myself and I hate for you that which I hate for myself. Establish prayers in full form in the two Ḥarams, in (the Mosque of) Kūfah, and next to the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.).”

“I visited abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), and said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause; I have invented a prayer.’ He said, ‘Keep your invention away from me. When you face a difficult condition, seek asylum with the Messenger of Allah, perform two Rak‘at Salah (prayer), as a present to the Messenger of Allah.’ I then asked, ‘How should I do it?’ He said, ‘Take a bath, perform two Rak‘at Salah (prayer), begin just as you do in obligatory Salah (prayer) and read the testimonies just as you do in obligatory Salah (prayer). At the end of testimony and Salam say, “O Lord, You are Salam (peace or safety), from You comes safety, to You returns safety, Allahumma Salli ‘Ala Muhammad wa ‘Ali Muhammad (O Allah grant Muhammad and his family a compensation worthy of their serving Your cause). Deliver my salutation to Muhammad and the spirits of truthful ’A’immah, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, and to me Salam from them and the blessings of Allah. O Allah, these two (Rak‘at Salah (prayer)) are my gift to the Messenger of Allah. Please grant to me the reward that I wished and about which I placed my hopes before You and Your Messenger, O Guardian of the believers.” Then make sajdah and say, “O the Living One, the Guardian, the Living who never dies, O the Living One, no one other than You, deserves worship, O the owner of glory, and grace, O merciful above all merciful ones”- forty times. Then place the right side of your face on the ground and say the above forty times. Then place the left side of your face on the ground and say the same forty times. Raise thereafter your head, stretch your hands and say the above forty times. Then hold your beard with your left hand, weep or make a weeping face and say, “O Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, I complain before Allah and before you about my needs as well as before your Ahl al-Bayt (members of your family), the right guides about my needs, through you I turn to Allah about my needs.” Then make sajdah and say, “O Allah, O Allah,” for a full breath, Allahumma Salli ‘Ala Muhammad wa ‘Ali Muhammad (O Allah grant Muhammad and his family a compensation worthy of their serving Your cause).’ Please grant my wishes and needs.’” “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘I guarantee from Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, that He will not leave your needs and wishes without being met and fulfilled.’”

The discussion of the killer of Imam Husain (a.s.) was going on with Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.). A companion expressed his wish saying that Allah should take revenge from the killer in this world itself. Imam (a.s.) told him, “In this way, you are reducing the punishment of Allah while it is very severe and painful.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Eating seven dates of al-‘Ajwah at bed time kill the worms in one’s belly.”’

“I once went to see abu al-Hassan, al-Awwal (a.s.), and before him (the Imam) there was a bowl with black plums in its time (season). He (the Imam) said, ‘It is because fever increased in my body and fresh plums lower down fever, calm down yellowness (stomach acid). Dry plums calm down blood (excitement) and remove reverberating illnesses/”

“I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), if breastfeeding once or twice brought unlawfulness or three times. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, until it strengthens bones and grows flesh.’”

I entered to meet Abi Ibrahim عليه السلام and with him was his son Abu al-Hasan – he said to me: O Ziyad this is my son so and so – his letter is my letter, his words are my words, his messenger is my messenger and whatever he says then the decision is what he says.

"I entered Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) and said: 'May I be your ransom, I have composed a supplication.' Imam (as) said: 'Leave aside your composition; if a matter befalls you, then seek help from the Messenger of Allah (sw) by praying two rak'ahs, dedicating them to the Messenger of Allah (sw).' I asked: 'How should I do this?' Imam (as) said: 'Perform ghusl (ritual purification), pray two rak'ahs, beginning them as you would begin a prescribed prayer (with the opening takbir and intention), and recite the tashahhud as you would in the obligatory prayer. When you finish the tashahhud and say the salutation (Tasleem), say: "O’ Allah (swt), You are Peace, and from You comes peace, and to You returns peace. O’ Allah (swt), send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and convey my greetings of peace to the soul of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad. Peace be upon them, and the mercy and blessings of Allah (swt). O’ Allah (swt), these two rak'ahs are a gift from me to Your Messenger (sw). So reward me for them with what I hope and expect from You through Your Messenger, O’ Guardian of the believers." Then prostrate (sujud) and say: "O’ Ever-Living, O’ Self-Sustaining, O’ Living One who does not die, O’ Living One, there is no god but You, O’ Possessor of Majesty and Honor, O’ Most Merciful of the merciful," forty times. Then place your right cheek on the ground and say it forty times. Then place your left cheek and say it forty times. Then raise your head, stretch out your hands, and say it forty times. Then bring your hands to your neck and hold your index finger while saying it forty times. Then take hold of your beard with your left hand, weep, or pretend to weep, and say: "O’ Muhammad, O’ Messenger of Allah (sw), I complain to Allah (swt) and to you about my need. I complain to your rightly guided family about my need. Through you, I turn to Allah (swt) in my need." Then prostrate and say: "O’ Allah (swt), O’ Allah (swt)," until you are out of breath. Then say: "Send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and do for me (such and such)." Abu Abdullah (as) said: 'I guarantee by Allah (swt), the Mighty and Majestic, that his need will be fulfilled before he rises.'"

I said to Abu Abdillah, peace be upon him: Indeed, Allah has ordered me in His Book with an order, and I would like to know (the meaning of) it. He said: And what is that? I said: The saying of Allah, Exalted and Glorious is He: «Then, let them end their tafath, and let them fulfill their vows» (22:29). He said: «let them end their tafath» is the meeting with the Imam, and «let them fulfill their vows» are those rites. Abdullah bin Sinan said: Then I came to Abu Abdillah, peace be upon him, and I said: May Allah make me a sacrifice for you. The saying of Allah, Exalted and Glorious is He: «Then, let them end their tafath, and let them fulfill their vows» (22:29)? He said: It is to take (some off) the mustache, cut the nails, and similar to that. He said: I said: May I be sacrificed for you, Dhuraih al-Muharibi told me of you that you, indeed, said to him that «Then, let them end their tafath» is the meeting with the Imam, and that «and let them fulfill their vows» are those rites. He said: Dhuraih spoke true, and you have spoken true. Indeed, for the Qur’an is an apparent meaning and an internal meaning. And who can handle like what Dhuraih handles?

Silver and gold money destroyed those before you and they will destroy you, too.”
