جعفر بن عثمان بن شريك بن عدي

My father sent some goods to Syria with a camel driver, and the camel driver claimed that one of the loads was lost. I mentioned this to Abu Abdillah (as). Imam (as) said: "Do you suspect him?" I said: "No." Imam (as) said: "Then do not hold him liable."

And whatever is narrated from Jafar ibn Uthman, I have narrated it from my father - may Allah (swt) be pleased with him - from Ali ibn Musa Al-Kamandani, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ʿIsa, from Al-Husayn ibn Saʿid, from Muhammad ibn Abi Umayr, from Abu Jafar Al-Shami, from Jafar ibn Uthman.

“My father carried goods to al-Sham with a camel man, then he remembered that one load was lost. I mentioned it to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), and he asked, ‘Do you charge him?’ I replied, ‘No, I do not charge him.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You must not hold him liable.’”

H 251 - Abu Ja’far bin Babawayh says that in a report that is based on the fact that if someone intentionally omits a fast during Ramadhan, all three penalties become obligatory on him and he has to fulfill all of them: I, on the basis of the reply of Imam Mahdi (a.s) to the question of Abul Hasan Asadi, which was received through Shaykh Abu Ja’far [Muhammad bin Uthman Amari] rule that all three penalties are applicable on one who breaks the fast through unlawful coition or through unlawful food.

“Allah has two kinds of knowledge. There is the hidden, treasured knowledge of which no one has any information except Allah. From this knowledge comes al-Bada’. There is the knowledge that Allah has given to His angels, His messengers and His prophets and we know this knowledge.”

"I asked Abu Al-Hasan (as) about the Talbiyah and its reason. Imam (as) said: 'Indeed, when people enter Ihram, Allah (swt), Mighty and Majestic, calls out to them, saying, "My servants and handmaids, I will make you forbidden upon the Fire just as you have entered Ihram for Me." Thus, their saying, 'Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik' (Here I am, O Allah (swt), Here I am) is a response to Allah (swt), Mighty and Majestic, for His call to them.'

I said to Abi `Abdillah (as) regarding Maghrib: We prayed, but we fear that the Sun was behind the mountain, and that the mountain had hid it from us. So, he said: You do not need to climb the mountain.

When the servants (people) enter the state of ritual consecration for the Hajj the Honorable the Exalted God addresses them and says, ‘O My servants and slaves! I forbid the Fire from you as you forbade things for yourselves.’ Then they say ‘Labbayk Allahuma Labbayk’ implying that they have accepted God’s call and are responding to it.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘The heart in certain hours of the night and day has no disbelief or belief in it and it is like an old mg.’ The narrator has said that the Imam then asked, ‘Do you not find that in yourself? Then there is a dot from Allah in the heart of the kind that He wills in the form of disbelief or belief.’” A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Muhammad Ibn Abi ‘Umayr a similar Hadith.

Sulayman b. Mehran narrated to us. He said: I visited al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as), and with him was a delegation of Shi`a. So, I heard him say: O Shi`a! Be an adornment for us, and do not be a disgrace for us. Speak beautifully to the people. Guard your tongues and stop them from superfluous and ugly sayings.

I was with Abi Ja’far al-Baqir (MGB) a man told him, ‘May God improve you! There are some people in Kufa who have certain beliefs which they relate to you.’ The Imam (MGB) asked him, ‘What are those beliefs?’ The man said, ‘They say that belief is different from Islam.’ The Imam (MGB) said, ‘Yes. That is true.’ The man asked, ‘How come?’ The Imam (MGB) said, ‘Anyone who bears testimony that ‘There is no god but God. Muhammad is God’s Prophet’; believes in what Muhammad (MGB) has brought from God; establishes prayers; gives the alms; fasts in the month of Ramazan and goes on pilgrimage to Hajj is a Muslim.’ I (Abu Basir) asked, ‘Then what is belief?’ The Imam (MGB) said, ‘Anyone who bears testimony that ‘There is no god but God. Muhammad is God’s Prophet’; believes in what Muhammad (MGB) has brought from God; establishes prayers; gives the alms; fasts in the month of Ramazan; goes on pilgrimage to Hajj; and doesn’t meet God with a sin for which the punishment of the Fire (of Hell) has been declared is a believer.’ I (Abu Basir) asked, ‘May I be your ransom! How could we find someone who meets God without having committed a sin for which the punishment of the Fire has been declared?’ The Imam (MGB) said, ‘It is not so. The intention from this saying is that he commits a sin which for which the Punishment of the Fire has been declared and he doesn’t repent for committing it.’”

Indeed, it is among humbleness that a man is pleased with one sitting place before more sitting places, that he sends peace upon the one he meets, that he abandons quarreling, even if he is rightful, and that he does not like to be praised for godfearness.
