جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليه السلام

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “God the Almighty is Zealous, and loves the zealous. It is for this zeal that He has forbidden all public or private obscene deeds.”

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “Abraham was zealous. He would lock the door and take the key whenever he left the house.”

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “The heart of any man who is not zealous is turned upside down.”

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “There is no blood money required for blinding or injuring anyone who takes a furtive look into a house at women.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Ibrahim (a.s.) was vigilant and protective and I am more vigilant and protective than he was. Allah cuts-off the noses of those who do not exercise vigilance in favor of the believing and Muslims.’”

“God is indeed zealous about believing men and women. Believers should also be zealous, since the heart of anyone who is not zealous is upside down.”

“Saed is zealous, and I am even more zealous than him. May God chop off the nose of the believers and Muslims who are not zealous.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Paradise is made unlawful for a pimp.”’

Captives were brought to the Prophet (s), and he ordered that they be killed, except for one man among them. So, the man said: May my mother and my father be your sacrifice, Muhammad. Why did you exempt me from them? So, he said: Gabriel informed me from Allah that you have five characteristics that Allah and His Messenger love: (1) jealousy over your women, (2) generosity, (3) beautiful character, (4) a truthful tongue, and (5) courage. When the man heard this, he converted to Islam and beautified his Islam. He fought intensely alongside the Messenger of Allah (s) until he was martyred.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin once said, ‘O people of Iraq I am informed that your women push men on the road, are you not ashamed?’ In another Hadith it is said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.), said, ‘Are you not ashamed of not exercising vigilance when your women go out in the market and become crowded with al-‘Aluj (uneducated faithless ones)!”’

“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Allah, most High, is Vigilant (protective of His cause) and He loves every vigilant one and due to His vigilance He has made both apparent and hidden indecency unlawful. ’”

“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘On the Day of Judgment Allah will not speak to three kinds of people and will not cleanse them and they suffer a painful suffering. One is an old fornicating man, a pimp and a woman who allows men to go in the bed of her husband with her.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When a man’s vigilance is shaken in matters of protection for his family and wife or those married to him, like his slave-girl, but does not act vigilantly, Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, sends a bird called al-Qafandar which sits on the upper portion of his door and gives him forty days and calls him saying, ‘Allah is vigilant and loves vigilant people.’ If he then acts vigilantly, changes and dislikes what has shaken his sense of protectionism, otherwise, the bird flies, sits on his head and hangs its wings on his eyes; then Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, removes the spirit of belief and faith from him and the angels call him a pimp.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has not placed pride in women. Such feeling comes from detested ones among them; however, the believing ones of them are free of pride. Allah has placed pride in men; He has made lawful for men up to four and those whom they own (slaves). For women He has made only their husband so if she wants more besides him she is a fornicator before Allah.’ He (the narrator) has said that al-Qasim ibn Yahya has narrated from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid from abu Bakr al-Hadramiy from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), except that he has said, ‘Baghat’ (sought) instead of ‘Aradat’ (wanted).”

“O' people of Iraq! I have heard that your women run into men in the streets. Are you not ashamed?”

“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Vigilance and protectionism is not needed against lawful matters, in the light of the words of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, “The two of you (Ali and Fatimah, Alayhim al-Salam ,) you must not do anything until I come back to you” and when he (the Messenger of Allah) came back he stretched his legs between them in the furnishing.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Pride is with men only and with women it is jealousy. Vanity is with men and for this reason Allah has prohibited women except to have one husband and for men He has made up to four (wives) lawful. Allah is most gracious. He does not place vanity and pride in them (women) then make three more with her lawful for him/”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin in a letter to al-Hassan (a.s.), has said, ‘You must be on your guard against vigilance and protectionism in an improper instance because it can lead the ones (of women) with perfect manners into one of ill-behaving one, however, you must fortify their (women’s) condition and if you find a defect then hasten to disapprove it regardless it is small or large. If you find their behavior doubtful, then the sin becomes great and deviation becomes easy.’”
