Hadith 1917

1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Khalid from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from certain persons of his people who has said the following
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Pride is with men only and with women it is jealousy. Vanity is with men and for this reason Allah has prohibited women except to have one husband and for men He has made up to four (wives) lawful. Allah is most gracious. He does not place vanity and pride in them (women) then make three more with her lawful for him/”
1- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ
لَيْسَ الْغَيْرَةُ إِلا لِلرِّجَالِ وَأَمَّا النِّسَاءُ فَإِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ مِنْهُنَّ حَسَدٌ وَالْغَيْرَةُ لِلرِّجَالِ وَلِذَلِكَ حَرَّمَ اللهُ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ إِلا زَوْجَهَا وَأَحَلَّ لِلرِّجَالِ أَرْبَعاً وَإِنَّ اللهَ أَكْرَمُ أَنْ يَبْتَلِيَهُنَّ بِالْغَيْرَةِ وَيُحِلَّ لِلرِّجَالِ مَعَهَا ثَلاثاً.
