Hadith 971

1. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakil who said it was narrated to me by Abdillah b. Ja’far al-Himyari from Ahmad b. Muhammad from al-Hassan b. Mahbub from Hadeed al-Madaini from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said
“Safeguard your religion through piety and seeking help from Allah instead of seeking help from the worldly ruler. Know that if a believer bows in front of a ruler for worldly benefits, Allah will weaken his voice, make that ruler his bitter enemy and hand him over to the ruler whom he had relied upon. Even if that person is successful in getting wealth Allah will take away abundance (Barakat) from it. If he spends that wealth for Hajj, Umrah or for freeing slaves, Allah will not give any reward for it.”
حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَی بْنِ الْمُتَوَکِّلِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْحِمْیَرِیُّ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ حَدِیدٍ الْمَدَائِنِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ
صُونُوا دِینَکُمْ بِالْوَرَعِ وَ قُوَّهِ التُّقَی وَ الِاسْتِغْنَاءِ بِاللَّهِ عَنْ طَلَبِ الْحَوَائِجِ مِنَ السُّلْطَانِ وَ اعْلَمُوا أَنَّهُ أَیُّمَا مُؤْمِنٍ خَضَعَ لِصَاحِبِ سُلْطَانٍ أَوْ مَنْ یُخَالِفُهُ عَلَی دِینِهِ طَالِباً لِمَا فِی یَدَیْهِ أَخْمَلَهُ اللَّهُ وَ مَقَتَهُ وَ وَکَلَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَیْهِ وَ إِنْ هُوَ غَلَبَ عَلَی شَیْ ءٍ مِنْ دُنْیَاهُ وَ صَارَ فِی یَدِهِ مِنْهُ شَیْ ءٌ نَزَعَ اللَّهُ الْبَرَکَهَ مِنْهُ وَ لَمْ یُؤْجِرْهُ عَلَی شَیْ ءٍ یُنْفِقُهُ فِی حَجٍّ وَ لَا عُمْرَهٍ وَ لَا عِتْقٍ.
