Jabra`ǐl Shows the Land on Which Ĥusain (a.s.) Will Be Killed to the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.)

Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Jabra`īl announced the news of the killing of Ḥusain (a.s.) to the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) in the house of Um Salamah. While Jabra`īl was with the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.), Ḥusain (a.s.) entered. Jabra`īl said to the Prophet (s.a.a.w.), “Verily your nation will kill him.” The Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) said, “Show me the dust on which his blood will be shed.” Jabra`īl took a handful of that dust and it was a red-coloured dust.

Um Salamah kept that dust until she died.

I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) say: (One day) when Jabra`īl was with the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) in the house of Um Salamah, Ḥusain (a.s.) entered. Jabra`īl said, “Verily your nation will kill this son of yours. Should I not show you the dust of the land on which he will be killed?” The Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) replied, “Yes.” Therefore, Jabra`īl extended his hand (to the land on which Ḥusain (a.s.) would be killed), took a handful of that dust, and then showed it to the Prophet (s.a.a.w.)
