Al-Kashi narrates from Ali ibn Muhammad al-Qatibi that Fadl ibn Shadhan said: 'Muhammad ibn al-Hasan was dear to Abu Ja'far, and Abu al-Hasan spent on him during his illness, for his shroud, and held a mourning gathering for him upon his death.'

محمد بن الحسن الواسطي: من أصحاب الجواد عليه السلام، رجال الشيخ (30). وقال الكشي (436) محمد بن الحسن الواسطي: " حدثني علي بن محمد القتيبي، قال: قال الفضل بن شاذان: محمد بن الحسن كان كريما على أبي جعفر عليه السلام، وإن أبا الحسن عليه السلام أنفذ نفقة في مرضه وأكفنه، وأقام مأتمه عند موته ". إنتهى. روى عن الفضل بن شاذان، في عدة موارد من الكشي منها: في ترجمة يحيى ابن أبي القاسم أبي بصير (346). وقال ابن داود (1334): من القسم الأول: محمد بن الحسن الواسطي (ق) (جخ) (كش) (عق) (فش)، كان كريما... إلخ. أقول: نسبة عده من أصحاب الصادق عليه السلام إلى الشيخ فيه سهو ظاهر. نعم، روى عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام، وروى عنه أبان بن عثمان. التهذيب: الجزء 1، باب تلقين المحتضرين من الزيادات، الحديث 1524.
