Backbiting (ghiba) includes saying regarding your brother that which Allah has hidden. Slander (buhtan) includes saying regarding your brother that which is not [true] in him.

17 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا عبد الله ابن جعفر الحميري، عن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى، عن الحسن بن محبوب، عن عبد الرحمن بن سيابة، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام)، قال

إن من الغيبة أن تقول في أخيك ما ستره الله عليه، وإن من البهتان أن تقول في أخيك ما ليس فيه (3).

Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Saffar narrated to us from Ibrahim b. Hashim from Muhammad b. Abi Umayr from Zayd al-Shahham from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said

A worshiper does not say [the following] seven times per day -- I ask Allah for Paradise, and I seek refuge in Allah from the Fire -- except that the Fire says: "O Lord! Give him refuge from me."

حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسن الصفار، عن إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن محمد بن أبي عمير، عن زيد الشحام، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليه السلام)، قال

ما من عبد يقول كل يوم سبع مرات: أسأل الله الجنة، وأعوذ بالله من النار، إلا قالت النار: يا رب أعذه مني (3).

Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar (rh) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa narrated to us from al-Hasan b. Mahbub from `Anbasa b. Bijad al-`Abid.

A man came to al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) and said: Advise me. So, he said: Prepare your belongings and ready your supplies for a long journey. Be an advisor to yourself, and do not depend on someone to give you that which will rectify you.

12 - حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن يحيى العطار (رحمه الله)، قال حدثنا سعد ابن عبد الله، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى، عن الحسن بن محبوب، عن عنبسة بن بجاد العابد: أن رجلا قال

للصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام): أوصني. فقال: أعد جهازك، وقدم زادك لطول سفرك، وكن وصي نفسك، ولا تأمن غيرك أن يبعث إليك بما يصلحك (3).

1. We were told by my father, may Allah grant him mercy, that he said: We were told by Sa’d bin Abdullah, that he said: We were told by Ibrahim bin Hashim, from Qasem bin Yahya, from his grandfather, Hasan bin Rashid, from Abu Baseer, and Muhammed bin Muslim, from Abu Abdillah, Ja’far bin Muhammed, from his father, from his fathers, peace be upon them, that he said: The Commander of the Believers, peace be upon him, said

Intoxication is (by the type of) four intoxications: intoxication from drink; intoxication from (abundance of) property; intoxication due to (lack of) sleep; and intoxication of (possessing) rulership.

He said: Abul Qasim Ja’far ibn Muhammad ibn Qawlawayh, may Allah have mercy on him, reported to me from his father, who reported from Sa’d ibn Abdilllah, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa, from al-Hassan ibn Mahboob, from Abu Hamza al-Thumali, from Abu Ja’far Muhammad ibn ‘Ali al-Baqir (AS) who said

"Islam has been founded on five pillars: the establishment of Salat (prayer), giving away Zakat (alms), fasting in the month of Ramadhan, pilgrimage to the Sacred House, and the Wilayat to us Ahlul Bayt."

بني الإسلام على خمسة دعائم: إقام الصلاة، وإيتاء الزكاة، وصوم شهر رمضان، وحج البيت الحرام، والولاية لنا أهل البيت .

3-60 Muhammad ibn Ali Majiluyih - may God be pleased with him - narrated that Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Attar quoted Muhammad ibn Ahmad, on the authority of Sahl ibn Zyad, on the authority of Ja’far ibn Muhammad ibn Bashar, on the authority of Ubaydullah al-Dihqan, on the authority of Durost ibn Abi Mansoor, on the authority of Abdul Ali - the servant of the Sam Clan - that Aba Abdullah as-Sadiq (MGB) said, “

One’s intellect can be measured by three things: long beard, marking on his ring and nickname.”

3-60 حدثنا محمد بن علي ماجيلويه رضي الله عنه قال: حدثنا محمد بن يحيى العطار، عن محمد بن أحمد، عن سهل بن زياد، عن جعفر بن محمد بن بشار، عن عبيدالله الدهقان، عن درست بن أبي منصور، عن عبدالاعلى مولى آل سام، عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال

يعتبر عقل الرجل في ثلاث: في طول لحيته، وفي نقش خاتمه، وفي كنيته

hadith 172

My father (rh) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa from `Ali b. al-Hakam from Muthanna al-Hannat from Abi Basir from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said

I heard him say: Whoever prays four units with two hundred recitations of qul huwallahu ahad – fifty times per unit – there will not remain a sin between him and Allah except that it has been forgiven for him.

3 - حدثنا أبي (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد الله، عن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى، عن علي بن الحكم، عن مثنى الحناط، عن أبي بصير، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام)، قال

سمعته يقول: من صلى أربع ركعات بمائتي مرة (قل هو الله أحد) في كل ركعة خمسين مرة، لم ينفتل وبينه وبين الله عزوجل ذنب إلا غفر له (2).

My father (ra) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa from al-Hasan b. Mahbub from Malik b. Atiyya from Sa`id al-A`raj from Abi `Abdillah Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said

From the firmest bonds of faith is to love for Allah, hate for Allah, give for Allah, and prevent for Allah.

من أوثق عرى الايمان أن تحب في الله، وتبغض في الله، وتعطي في الله، وتمنع في الله عز وجل (3).

Hadith.5853 - Al-Mualla ibn Muhammad Al-Basri narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Abdullah, from Amr ibn Ziyad, from Mudrik ibn Abd Al-Rahman, from Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as), peace be upon him, who said

"On the Day of Judgment, Allah (swt), the Mighty and Majestic, will gather all people on one plain ground, and the scales will be set. The blood of the martyrs will be weighed against the ink of the scholars, and the ink of the scholars will outweigh the blood of the martyrs."

5853 - وَ رَوَى اَلْمُعَلَّى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ اَلْبَصْرِيُّ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُدْرِكِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اَلرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ اَلصَّادِقِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ

"إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ اَلْقِيَامَةِ جَمَعَ اَللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ اَلنَّاسَ فِي صَعِيدٍ وَاحِدٍ وَ وُضِعَتِ اَلْمَوَازِينُ فَتُوزَنُ دِمَاءُ اَلشُّهَدَاءِ مَعَ مِدَادِ اَلْعُلَمَاءِ فَيَرْجَحُ مِدَادُ اَلْعُلَمَاءِ عَلَى دِمَاءِ اَلشُّهَدَاءِ".

`Ali b. Ahmad b. `Abdullah b. Ahmad b. Abi `Abdullah al-Barqi narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from his grandfather Ahmad b. Abi `Abdullah from Hamza b. `Abdullah al-Ja`fari from Jamil b. Darraj from Abi Hamza al-Thumali. He said

al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) said: Hope to Allah that He does not entice you to sin and be fearful to Allah that He does not deprive you of His mercy.

5 - حدثنا علي بن أحمد بن عبد الله بن أحمد بن أبي عبد الله البرقي، قال: حدثنا أبي، عن جده أحمد بن أبي عبد الله، عن حمزة بن عبد الله الجعفري، عن جميل بن دراج، عن أبي حمزة الثمالي، قال

قال الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام) ارج الله رجاء لا يجرئك على معاصيه، وخف الله خوفا لا يؤيسك من رحمته (2)

hadith 158

My father (rh) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us. He said: Abu Ja`far Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa and Musa b. Ja`far b. Abi Ja`far al-Baghdadi narrated to us from Abi Talib `Abdullah b. Salt al-Qummi from al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Faddal from Dawud b. Abi Yazid. He said

Al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) said: When the Sun disappears, then Maghrib time has begun.

11 - حدثنا أبي (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد الله، قال: حدثنا أبو جعفر أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى وموسى بن جعفر بن أبي جعفر البغدادي، عن أبي طالب عبد الله بن الصلت القمي، عن الحسن بن علي بن فضال، عن داود بن أبي يزيد، قال

قال الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليه السلام): إذا غابت الشمس فقد دخل وقت المغرب (3).

Ahmad b. Harun al-Fami (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Abdullah b. Ja`far narrated to us from his father from Muhammad b. `Abd al-Jabbar from `Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Najran from al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Rabat from Abi Bakr al-Hadrami. He said

Al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) said: Be good to your parents, and your children will be good to you. Be chaste with the women of the people, and your women will be chaste.

قال الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام): بروا آباءكم يبركم أبناؤكم، وعفوا عن نساء الناس تعف نساؤكم (1).

3. Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Ahmad ibn al-Walid (RA) said: Muhammad ibn al-Hasan alSaffar said, on the authority of al-`Abbas ibn Ma`ruf, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Sinan, on the authority of Talhah ibn Zayd, on the authority of Ja`far ibn Muhammad (AS) that

His father al-Baqir (AS) said Verily, the children of the Muslims are known to Allah, the Mighty and High, as intercessors, and those who will receive intercession. When they become twelve years of age, the merits are written for them, and when they reach the age of puberty, their offences are also noted down.

3 - حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد رحمه الله، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسن الصفار، عن العباس بن معروف، عن محمد بن سنان، عن طلحة بن زيد، عن جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه عليهما السلام، قال

إن أولاد المسلمين هم موسومون عند الله عز وجل شافع ومشفع فإذا بلغوا اثنتي عشرة سنة كتبت لهم الحسنات، وإذا بلغوا الحلم كتبت عليهم السيئات.

Muhammad b. Musa al-Mutawakkil (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. al-Husayn Sa`d Abadi narrated to me from Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Barqi from his father from Muhammad b. Sinan from al-Mufaddal b. `Umar from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said

Islam was built on five pillars: prayer, zakat, fasting, Hajj, and the wilaya of Amir al-Mu’minin and the Imams from his descendants (s).

14 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثني علي بن الحسين السعد آبادي، عن أحمد بن أبي عبد الله البرقي، عن أبيه، عن محمد بن سنان، عن المفضل بن عمر، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليه السلام)، قال

بني الاسلام على خمس دعائم: على الصلاة، والزكاة، والصوم، والحج، وولاية أمير المؤمنين والائمة من ولده (صلوات الله عليهم) (3).

7. Sa‘d ibn ‘Abdallah and ‘Abdallah ibn Ja‘far all have narrated from Ibrahim ibn Mahziyar from his brother Ali Mahziyar from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Muhammad ibn Sinan from ibn Muskan from abu Basir who has said the following.

“Abu ‘Abdallah, Ja‘far ibn Muhammad (a.s.) passed away at the age of fifty bsix in the year one hundred forty eight AH. He lived after abu Ja‘far (a.s.), his father for forty three years.”

7ـ سَعْد�� بْنُ عَبْدِ الله وَعَبْدُ الله بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ جَمِيعاً عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مَهْزِيَارَ عَنْ أَخِيهِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَهْزِيَارَ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ

قُبِضَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ (عَلَيْهما السَّلام) وَهُوَ ابْنُ خَمْسٍ وَسِتِّينَ سَنَةً فِي عَامِ ثَمَانٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ وَمِائَةٍ وَعَاشَ بَعْدَ ابي جعفر (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) أَرْبَعاً وَثَلاثِينَ سَنَةً.

He said: Al-Sharif al-Zahid Abu Muhammad al-Hasan ibn Hamza reported to me from Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn al-Waleed, from Muhammad.ibn al-Hasan al-Saffar, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa, from Muhammad ibn Sinan, from Amru al-Afraq and Hudhaifa ibn Mansoor that Abu Abdillah Ja’far ibn Muhammad, peace be upon him, said

"The charity best loved by Allah is to bring about reconciliation among people when they are divided by friction and to bring them closer to each other when they have moved apart."

10 - قال: أخبرني الشريف الزاهد أبو محمد الحسن بن حمزة، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن الوليد، عن محمد بن الحسن الصفار، عن أحمد بن محمد ابن عيسى، عن محمد بن سنان، عن عمرو الأفرق وحذيفة بن منصور، عن أبي عبد الله جعفر بن محمد عليهما السلام قال

صدقة يحبها الله إصلاح بين الناس إذا تفاسدوا، وتقريب بينهم إذا تباعدوا.
