Imam Ali (AS) said, A believer is one whose love is for [the sake of] Allah, whose hate is for Allah, whose taking is for Allah and whose leaving is for Allah.

Imam Ali (AS) said, If I were to strike the nose of a believer to make him hate me he would still not hate me, and if I were to bestow the whole world to a hypocrite to make him love me he would still not love me.

The Prophet (SAWA) said, ‘Verily Allah, exalted be His praise, says: ‘By My Might and Exaltedness, I have not created any creature more beloved to Me than My believing servant.

15. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfali from al-Sakuni from abu ‘Abd Allah Who has said the following
“Three things are of the signs of a believer: having knowledge of the existence of Allah, who to love and who dislike.”

9. It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from Ali ibn Hassan from those he has mentioned (in his book) from Dawud ibn Farqad from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Three things are of the signs of a believer: His knowledge of Allah, who to love and who to hate.’”

Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘When the believer abandons this world, he is elevated and finds the sweet taste of Allahs love; he appears to the people of this world as if he is confounded in his mind, whereas truly it is they who have confounded the sweetness of Allahs love such that they do not occupy themselves with other than Him.

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “A believer can taste the sweetness of God's love if he abstains from the world. He will thus succeed. Then he will attain God's love. He will be considered to be insane by those who love the world, but in fact the sweetness of God's love has made him attend to nothing but God.”

Ameer al-Momineen (a.s) said: “Even if I hit a believer's nose with my sword in order to make him my enemy, he will not become my enemy. Also even if I bestow the whole universe to a hypocrite to make him like me, he will not like me. This is because of God's words that were expressed by the illiterate Prophet: O' Ali! No believer will ever become your enemy, and no hypocrite will ever become your friend.”

45. Amīr al-mu’minīn, peace be upon him, said: Even if I strike the nose of a believer with this, my sword, for hating me he will not hate me, and even if I pile all the wealth of the world before a hypocrite (Muslim) for loving me he will not love me. This is because it is a verdict pronounced by the tongue of the revered Prophet, may Allāh bless him and his descendants, as he said: “O ‘Alī, a believer will never hate you and a hypocrite will never love you.” [1]

3. Ibn Mahbub has narrated from abu Ja’far ibn Muhammad al-Nu’man al-Ahwal Sahib al-Taq from Salam ibn al-Mustanir from abu Ja’far (a.s.) who has said the following
“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Love of a believer for another believer only for the sake of Allah is of the greatest branches of belief. It is certain that whoever loves for the sake of Allah, hates for the sake of Allah, gives for the sake of Allah and denies for the sake of Allah is of the chosen people of Allah.’”

Imam Sadiq (a.s) narrated that God's Prophet (a.s) said that God the Almighty said
“There is nothing better than the performance of obligatory deeds for My servants to get to like Me. However by performing recommended prayers, he gets inclined to Me and I will love him. If I love him, I will be his ears to hear with, his eyes to see with, his tongue to speak with, and his hands to give charity with. I will then not hesitate to do what I must do, like hesitation in the death of a believer. He dislikes death, and I am unhappy about his unhappiness.”

2. He said: Abul Hasan Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Hasan reported to me from his father, who reported from Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Saffar, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa, from al-Hasan ibn Mahboob, from Malik ibn Atiyyah, from Dawood ibn Farqad, who reported that
Abu Abdillah al-Sadiq Ja’far ibn Muhammad, peace be upon him, said: Among the words spoken to Allah to Musa son of Imran, peace be upon him, He revealed: "O, Musa! I have not created anything more beloved and preferred to Me than My faithful, believing servants. And when I try him, it is for his own good. I take away from him what he desires most, for his own good; and I grant him for his own benefit. And I know best what is beneficial for My servant. So, it is for him to be patient, when I try him, to be grateful when I bless him with My bounties, and he should remain pleased with My judgement. (Then) I write his name among My Truthfuls when he acts according to My pleasure and obeys My orders."

10. A group of my scholars including my father, Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan, and ‘Ali ibn Ḥusain all narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Abī Khalaf, from Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā ibn ‘Ubayd Al-Yaqťīni, from Abī ‘Abdillāh Zakariyyā Al-Mu`min, from Ibn Muskān, from Zayd (ibn Yūnus Al-Shaḥḥām) servant of Ibn Hubayrah, from Abī Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)), who said
The Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) said: Hold on to this emptied man (Imam ‘Ali (a.s.)). Verily he is SIDDǏQ AL-AKBAR (the greatest truthful one) and he is the guide of those who follow him. Those who precede him have apostatized the religion of Allāh. Allāh will destroy those who disappoint him. Those who adhere to him have adhered to the “cord of Allāh” (3:103). Allāh guides those who accept his Wilāyah and He leads astray those who neglect his Wilāyah. Ḥasan and Ḥusain (a.s.), the two chiefs of my nation, are from ‘Ali (a.s.) and they are my sons. The Imams of guidance and Mahdi, the Qā`im (a.s.), are (all) from the children of Ḥusain (a.s.). Therefore, love them and follow them. Do not take their enemies as friends or choose them as leaders above them, for if you do, the wrath of Allāh will befall you and you will be disgraced in this world. “And he who forges a lie fails miserably” (20:61).
