أبو جعفر

Imam Baqir (a.s) said: “An angel calls out everyday and says: “O' Children of Adam! Deliver children to die, collect wealth for destruction, and build your houses to be ruined.”

Hadith.344 - Imam Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Baqir (as) said: "You instruct your deceased to say 'There is no god but Allah (swt)' at the time of death, while we instruct our deceased to say 'Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah (sw).'".

Hadith.356 - Imam Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Baqir (as) said: "If I had reached Ikrimah at the time of his death, I would have benefited him." When asked how, Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) explained: "He would have instructed him in what you are upon (referring to the beliefs of faithful)”.

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), when seeing a dead person would say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah who has not placed me among the masses whose lives have already ended.’”

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.) has said, ‘There is an angel that announces every day, “O sons of Adam, reproduce for death, accumulate for annihilation and build for destruction.’”

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.) has said, ’A believing person may die by any form of death and suffer from any form of suffering; however, he does not kill himself.”’

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘If one dies before the age of forty, his life is cut short, and if one dies before fourteen days from the day of his falling ill, such death is a sudden death.’”

"When death approached my father (as), he embraced me to his chest and said: 'O' my son, be patient upon the truth even if it is bitter, for your reward will be given to you without measure.'"

Hadith.363 - Imam Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Baqir (as) said: "The sign of a believer when death approaches is that their face becomes whiter than its usual color, their forehead perspires, and tears flow from their eyes like drops. This is the sign of the departure of their soul. As for the disbeliever, their soul exits from their mouth forcefully, like the froth of a camel or the expiration of a donkey."

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), when about to leave this world said, ‘When I die dig a grave for me as a straight cut in the ground, as opposed to digging straight and then digging horizontally a passage to accommodate the body which is called Lahad. If people say that the Messenger of Allah was place in Lahad, accept it as true.’”

Abu Ja'far (al-Baqir) (as) was born in the year 57 AH and passed away in the year 114 AH at the age of 57. He was buried in Al-Baqi' in Medina in the grave where his father, Ali ibn Husayn (as), was also buried. His mother was Umm Abd Allah, the daughter of Imam al-Hasan (as).

Hadith.373 - Imam Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Baqir (as) said: "Jumu’ah night is a radiant night, and its day is a radiant day. There is no day on the face of the earth on which the sun sets with more people freed from the Fire than on Jumu’ah. Whoever dies on Jumu’ah, Allah (swt) will write for them freedom from the punishment of the grave, and whoever dies on Jumu’ah will be freed from the Fire."

“He continues pleading (and crying) until he is placed in his grave. When he is placed in his grave, his spirit is then returned to his body and the two angels come to his grave and examine him.” “The narrator has that abu Ja‘far (a.s.), would weep whenever this Hadith was mentioned.”

The Prophet, peace be upon him and his progeny, said: "Death is an expiateon for the sins of the believers."

‘Abū Jaʿfar (a) said to me, ‘O Jābir, take this world as you would a place where you have arrived and then wish to depart from on the very same day, or as wealth that you have earned in your dream and when you awake there is nothing of it in your hand. And when you are at a funeral, then be as though it is you who is being carried [to your grave] and as though you are the one who is asking his Lord to send him back to the world so that you may work [and perform the deeds] like those who are living, for indeed to the learned, this world is like the shadow [that soon passes].”

I said to Abā Jaʿfar (a), ‘Ṣāliḥ ibn Mītham narrated to me from ʿAbāyah al-Asadī that he heard ʿAlī (a) saying, “By Allah, no servant [of Allah] ever hates me and dies with hatred for me but that he sees me at the moment of his death in a way that he hates, and no servant ever loves me and dies with love for me but that he sees me at the time of his death in a way that he loves.”’ So Abū Jaʿfar (a) said, ‘Yes, and the Messenger of Allah (ṣ) will be on his right side.’”

“One of the two Imam, (abu Ja‘far or abu ’Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said, ’If the dead person is one who refuses the truth say, ‘O Lord, fill up his belly with fire as well as his grave. Make snakes and scorpions dominate him.’ This is what abu Ja’far (a.s.), said about an evil woman of banu ‘Umayyah against whom my father prayed and said this expression, “Make Satan her companion.” Muhammad ibn Muslim has said that he then asked him (the Imam), ’For what reason snakes and scorpions are placed in her grave?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is because snakes bite her and scorpions sting her and Satans give her company.’ I then asked, ‘Will she feel the pain?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, very severely.’”

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘If you find a man in dying condition, dictate to him the relieving words: ‘Allah, the Most Forbearing, the Most Honorable, is the only Lord who must be worshipped. Allah, the Most High, the Most Great, is the only Lord who must be worshipped. It is Allah, Lord of seven heavens and seven earths, all that is between them and beneath them, Lord of the great Throne who is free of all defects, and it is only Allah, Lord of the worlds who deserves all praise.’ Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), then said, ‘Had you met ‘Ikrimah in his dying condition you could have benefited him.’ He was asked, ‘In what way he could benefit him?’ The Imam replied, ‘By dictating to him the matters of your belief.’”

“Once I said to abu Ja‘far (a.s.), that Salih ibn Mitham narrated to me from ‘Abayah al- Asadi who had heard Ali (a.s.), say the following: ‘By Allah, everyone who dislikes me and dies in such condition, can see me at the time of his death but with dislike. Everyone who loves me and dies in such condition, can see me at the time of his death with love.’ Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), then said, ‘Yes, and the Messenger of Allah on his right side.’”

“O' People! May God have Mercy upon you. Adopt fear of God which is the best thing for your trip to the Hereafter. Know that your path is towards the Hereafter, and that you must pass over the Bridge to the Hereafter. You have a great stress awaiting you. There are many awesome and hard to pass stages along the way. You have to go there, and stop at those stages. You can either pass through those awesome scenes and hardships and its trials by God's Mercy and be saved, or you may suffer from a destruction from which there is never any way to be saved.”
