I asked Abu Abdullah (as) about exchanging dirhams for dirhams, where one of them contains lead, but they are equal in weight. Imam (as) said: "Repeat the question." So I repeated it to him. Then Imam (as) said: "Repeat it again." I repeated it again, and Imam (as) said: "I see no harm in it."

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), about spending dirhams with impurities. He (the Imam) said, ‘If the amount of silver is overwhelming in it, it is not unlawful. 5 ”

"I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who has bailed out another man and has reached a settlement with him.’ He (the Imam) said, ’He can only have the actual amount the man owes to him.”’

I sold a Harawi sack in Medina, with each garment priced at a specific amount. They took it and divided it among them. Then they found a defect in one of the garments and returned it to me. I said to them, "I will give you its price that I sold it to you for." They replied: "No, rather we will take its value from you." I mentioned this matter to Abu Abdullah (as), and Imam (as) said: "They are obligated to that."

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If the two business people speak the truth the transaction is a blessing for them; but if they speak lies and cheat, it does not become a blessing for them. They have the choice to keep or dismiss the transaction as long as they you must not depart each other. After they depart the words of the owner of merchandise are accepted or they can mutually agree to dismiss the transaction.’”

“‘Umar and I were in al-Madinah and ‘Umar sold sacks made in Hirat, every cloth for so and so amount. They took them and divided among themselves but they found one defective piece and returned it. ‘Umar said to them, ‘I can pay you the price for which I sold to you.’ He said, ‘No, we take from you the price of the cloth.’ ‘Umar mentioned this before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), and he (the Imam) said, ‘He must do so (as he is asked to do).”’ (The pronoun ‘He’ can apply to either one of seller or buyer but its applying to the buyer has greater support in the principles of the system of Shari ‘ah)

I said to Abu Abdullah (as): "May I be your ransom! People claim that making a profit from someone in distress is forbidden and is considered usury." Imam (as) said: "Have you ever seen anyone, whether rich or poor, buy something except out of necessity, O Umar? Indeed, 'Allah (swt) has permitted trade and forbidden usury.' So make a profit, but do not commit usury." I said: "What is usury?" Imam (as) said: "It is exchanging dirhams for dirhams of equal amount."

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), once gave my father one thousand seven hundred dinars and told him to use them in business. He (the Imam) then said, ‘I am not interested in its profits, even though profits are desirable. I love, however, that Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, see me work to make profits.’ He (the narrator) has said, ‘I then made one hundred dinar profit for him. I met him and informed him about the one hundred dinar profits.’ He (the narrator) has said that abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), became very happy about it and told me to keep it with his capital. He (the narrator) has said that my father passed away and goods were with him. Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), then wrote to me, ‘May Allah grant to us and to you good health. There is my one thousand eight hundred dinar with abu Muhammad which I had given him to use in business. You must give this amount to ‘Umar ibn Yazid.’ He (the narrator) has said, that I then checked the record of my father and found that one thousand seven hundred dinars were due in favor of abu Musa (a.s.), and I had earned one hundred dinars profit, ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan and ‘Umar ibn Yazid knew him.”
