“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘On the Day of Judgment all the treacherous people will come with an Imam whose mouth will be badly deformed and end up in the fire.’”

I repent to God for the following three actions:1- Abu Bakr and I took the rule over the people from others;2- I forced the Caliph on the people;3- I ranked some people over others.’”

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘Divorce under coercion is not permissible or setting free of a slave. It is not permissible to swear for cutting off good relations with relatives or for a sinful act in disobedience to Allah. Thus, whoever swears or is made to swear about something of this kind, it does not have any valid effect on him. Divorce is what is meant to be divorce, and without coercion or harming in a divorce in the manner of waiting period, according to the Sunnah, in a Hayd (menses)-free period, without sexual intercourse and is pronounced in the presence of two witnesses. If one opposes this, his divorce and oath do not have any valid effect and it is returned to the book of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that one day the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, sat on the pulpit. He praised Allah, spoke of His glory, prayed for His prophets, and then said the following: ‘O people, those of you present must inform those who are absent. Whoever extends the due date for repayment in favor of a borrower who has difficulty to pay back, for such a person with Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, for every day a reward of charity equal to the amount of loan is recorded, until the loan is repaid.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), then said, ‘If a borrower has difficulty repaying the loan, he should be given time until his difficulty is no more, but it is better for you if you count it as is charity if he has difficulty to pay. You should provide him charity from your property; it is better for you.’”

I heard Ja’far ibn Muhammad, peace be upon him, say in the presence of people of Kufa: "It is surprising to hear people claim that they have derived all their knowledge from the Prophet, peace be upon him and his progency, and having acted accordingly, they are guided. And they believe that we, Ahlul Bayt, have not derived his knowledge, nor have we been guided by him, in spite of being his family members and descendants! The revelation descended in our homes, and from us the knowledge reached the people. Do you believe that they knew and were guided, while we remained ignorant and lost? This is indeed impossible."

A man from the offspring of Abi Talib had az-Zobayr swear to the truth of an issue in between the grave and the pulpit of God’s Prophet (S). Az-Zobayr swore to that and got leprosy. I saw a lot of its signs covering his legs and knees. His father also oppressed Ali ibn Musa Ar-Ridha’ (a.s.) on some occasion. Then the Imam (a.s.) cursed him. Immediately a rock fell down from some height over him and broke hisneck. And Zobayr’s father, Abdullah ibn Mos’ab, was the one who tore up the treaty of Yahya ibn Abdullah ibn Al-Hassan, insulted him in front of Al-Rashid and said, ‘O Commander of the Faithful (i.e. Al-Rashid)! Kill him. Do not spare him since this treaty is not valid.’ Yahya ibn Abdullah ibn Al-Hassan told Al-Rashid, ‘He is the one who had rebelled before along with his brother. Now he is claiming to support us.’ Then Yahya ibn Abdullah ibn Al-Hassan recited some of Abdullah ibn Mos’ab’s poems which supported Yahya’s claim. However, Abdullah ibn Mos’ab denied having authored them. Yahya challenged Abdullah ibn Mos’ab to swear to establish that he is telling the truth, and ask God for a speedy Divine chastisement in case he lied. Abdullah ibn Mos’ab did so. However, he got a fever and died after three days. His grave also collapsed several times.”The author of the book said, “This is a long tradition, but I have summarized it.”

‘Yahya bin Abdullah bin Al-Hassan wrote to Musa bin Ja’far (AS), ‘Following on from that, I hereby bequeath myself to fear Allah, and by it I bequeath you, for it is a bequest of Allah among the former ones and His bequest among the later ones. They have informed me, the ones who came to me, from the supporters of Allah upon His religion and (those who) spread His obedience, with what has been from your sympathy and your abandonment (of us), and I had consulted regarding the claiming to the satisfaction from the family of Muhammad (sw), You have concealed it, and your father concealed it before you. In the past, you claimed what was not rightfully yours, and you extended your hopes to what Allah did not grant you. Consequently, you were seduced and led astray. I am warning you of what Allah has warned against from Himself.’.
So Abu Al-Hassan Musa bin Ja’far wrote to him: ‘(This letter is) from Musa bin Abu Abdullah Ja’far and Ali, both participants in the humbleness to Allah and His obedience, to Yahya Bin Abdullah Bin Hassan – Following on from that, I caution you of Allah and myself and let you know of the pain of His punishment and the intensity of His retribution, and completion of His curse, and I bequeath you and myself with the fear of Allah for it is the beautiful speech and the affirmation of the bounties.
Your letter came to me mentioning therein that I am claiming, and so did my father from before, and you have not heard that from me, and 'Their evidence shall be written down and they shall be questioned' (43;19), and the greed of the world and its seeking does not leave for its owners the seeking of the Hereafter until it spoils it upon them the seeking of their Hereafter in their world. And you mentioned that I am blocking the people from you for my desire regarding what is in your hands. And If I was desirous (as such), it would not be the weakness from the Sunnah, nor the scarcity of insight with proof what would prevent me from entering into that which you are in, but Allah, the Most Blessed and High, created the people with variations, of different instincts. So inform me about two words I am asking you about. What is Al-Atraf in your body and what is Al-Sahlaj in the human being?
Then write to me with the information of that and I shall proceed to you. I caution you from disobeying the caliph and urge you upon being good to him and obey him, and you should seek security for yourself before the claws seize you and the pressures choke you from every place, so you would look for rest for yourself from every place but will not find it until Allah favours upon you with a favour and His grace, the kindness of the caliph, may Allah cause him to remain, so he would grant you security and preserve regarding you the relationship of the Messenger of Allah. And the greetings be upon the one who follows guidance. It has been revealed unto us that punishment is to be upon the one who lies and turns away’.
Al-Ja’fari said, ‘(News) reached me that the letter of Musa bin Ja’far fell into the hands of Harun (Al-Rashid, the Abbasid caliph), so when he read it, said: ‘The people are carrying me to go against Musa bin Ja’far and he is away (innocent) from what he is being accused with’.
