“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about al-Fuqa ’. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is wine.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘A wine addict is like a worshipper of idols.’”

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘A wine addict will meet Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, when he meets Him, as a worshipper of idols will do.’”

“The Messenger of Allah (ṣ) said, ‘Paradise is forbidden to three: to the one who puts others under obligation, to the one who backbites, and to the one who is a habitual drinker.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about al-Fuqa’. He (the Imam) said to me, ‘It is wine.’”

“We asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about al-Fuqa’. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is unlawful, it is an unknown wine and its penalty is the same as that which is for wine.”’

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘Why has Allah prohibited wine?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘He has prohibited it because of its effects and the destructive effects that it leaves behind.’”

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘If one drinks one sip of wine Allah will not accept his Salat (prayer) for seven (days) and if one becomes drunk his Salat (prayer) is not accepted for forty days.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one drinks intoxicating liquor, it is a right on Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, to make him drink from tinah of Khabal.’ I asked, ‘What is it?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is puss from the vagina of fornicators.’”

Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) narrates that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) cursed ten persons in connection with wine viz. one who cultivates the fruit, one who nurtures it, one who prepares wine, one who drinks it, one who serves it, one who sends it, one who orders it, one who sells it, one who buys it and one who makes profit from it.

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has condemned because of wine ten characters. Of such characters is the planter, the keeper, the seller, the buyer, the drinker, the payment receiver, the squeezer, the carrier, the one being carried to and the server of wine.’”

“The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has condemned wine. He has condemned those who squeeze the juice for it, those who want it be squeezed, those who sell it, those who buy it, those who serve it, those who receive payment for it, those who drink it, those who carry it for delivery and those to whom it is delivered.’”

“I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘I may go with these people for dinner and they bring al-Nabidh thereafter. If I do not drink I fear they may say, ‘He is of so and so (Ja‘fariy). What must I do in such case?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You can break it with water.’ I then asked, ‘When I break it with water can I then drink it?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘No, you cannot drink.’”

Hadith.5089 - In the narration of Amr ibn Shimr from Jabir, who attributed it to the Prophet: Commander of the Faithful (as) was presented with Al-Najashi Al-Harithiyy, the poet, who had consumed alcohol during the month of Ramadan. Imam (as) flogged him eighty lashes, then imprisoned him for a night. The next day, Imam (as) summoned him and flogged him with twenty more lashes. Al-Najashi said: "O' Commander of the Faithful (as), you already flogged me eighty lashes for drinking alcohol. What are these additional twenty for?" Imam (as) replied: "These are for your audacity in drinking alcohol during the month of Ramadan."

"When Allah (swt), the Blessed and Exalted, revealed the verse: 'Indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah (swt)], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid them' (Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:90). The people asked: 'O Messenger of Allah (swt), what is gambling (maysir)?' He (sw) replied: 'Everything that involves betting, even dice and walnuts.' They asked: 'What are the stone alters (ansab)?' He (sw) said: 'They are the sacrifices offered to their idols.' They asked: 'What are the divining arrows (azlam)?' He (sw) said: 'They are their arrows used for seeking decisions or division.'"

Imam Ja’far Sadiq was asked about the ruling against the person who uses an intoxicant. Imam (a.s.) replied, “His prayers will not be accepted for next forty days and he cannot repent during these forty days. If he dies during these days, he will go to Hell.”

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘The wine drinker on the Day of Judgment will be brought with his face all black, his tongue hanging down and his saliva flowing on his chest. It is a right on Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, to make him drink from tinah of Khabal or that he (the Imam) said, ‘from the well of Khabal’. I (the narrator) then asked, ‘What is well of Khabal ?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is a well in which the puss from the bottom of fornicators flows.’”

God’s Prophet (MGB) cursed ten groups of people in association with wine: those who plant the grape vine; those who take care of it to grow; those who squeeze the grapes; those who drink the wine; those who serve it; those who carry it; those by whom it is carried; those who buy it; those who sell it and those who spend money that is paid for it.”

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said that when Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, sent to His Messenger, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, the following verse, ‘Wine, gambling, idols and gambling arrows are of the filthy deeds of Satan, you must avoid them’ (5:93), it was asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, what is al-Maysir?’ The Messenger of Allah replied, ‘It is everything with which gambling is conducted, like cubes and walnuts and so on.’ It then was asked, ‘What is al-Ansab?’ The Messenger of Allah replied, ‘It is what they slaughter for their gods.’ It then was asked, ‘What is al-Azlam?’ The Messenger of Allah replied, ‘It is the arrows that they used to distribute certain items.’”

“Once abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), was asked about the table on which wine or intoxicating substances is served. He (the Imam) said, ‘The table becomes unlawful.’ It then was asked, ‘If one is on a table from which he eats and there is a man who has wine with him and no one has drunk from it. He (the Imam) said, ‘It does not become unlawful until wine is drunk on it. If after drinking wine on the table, then sweet is served, one can eat it because it is another table, that is, one can eat the sweet.’”
