“I heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘Fasting during the month of Sha‘ban and the month of Ramadan in a continuous manner is returning to Allah.’”

Hadith.1839 - In the narration of Umar ibn Yazid: "Except for those who break their fast with an intoxicant, harbor enmity [Mushahinan], or are engaged with shahīn (which refers to chess)."

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘In the month of Ramadan Allah forgives certain people except a drunk person, a chess playing person and a heretic.’”

“One who fasts continuously from Shaban to the month of Ramadan then by Allah, these fasts would be counted among repentance of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.), would fast during the month of Sha‘ban and the month of Ramadan in a continuous manner and would say, ‘Fasting during two months in a continuous manner is returning to Allah.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that every night in the month of Ramadan Allah sets free from fire certain people, except those who break their fast with intoxicating substances, a heretic in religion and Sahib of Shahayn (player of the game with two kings). I then asked, ‘What is Sahib of Shahayn ?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is chess.’”

Whoever fasts three days at the end of Sha`ban and connects it with the month of Ramadan, Allah shall record the fasting of two consecutive months for him.

Hadith.1889 - In the narration of al-Mufaddal ibn Umar from Abu Abdullah (as) regarding a man who had relations with his wife while both were fasting, Imam (as) said: "If he forced her, he must bear two expiations. If she consented, then he must bear one expiation and she must bear one expiation. If he forced her, he is to be lashed fifty times, half the prescribed punishment. If she consented, he is to be lashed twenty-five times, and she is to be lashed twenty-five times as well."

“My father used to take a day’s gap between the fasts of the months of Shaban and Ramadan. However Imam Zainul Abideen (a.s.) used to fast for two months continuously and used to say, ‘Fasting for these two months continuously is like repenting before Allah. These are the months of Allah and they compensate for the sins of the two months of past and present each’.”

“The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) used to fast in the months of Shaban and Ramadan continuously. However he used to stop people from doing so.These are the months of Allah and they compensate for the sins of previous and next months.”

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘The Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, “When it is the first day of the month of Shawwal, an announcer announces, ‘O believers, come to receive your presents.”” He (the Imam) then said, ‘O Jabir, presents that Allah gives away are not like the presents the kings give away.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘That is the day of receiving presents.”’

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who performs sexual intercourse with his wife when both are fasting. He (the Imam) said, ‘If she dislikes it, then he is responsible for the expiation for two people. If she is consenting, then he owes one expiation and she owes one expiation. If he forces her, there is fifty lashes on him which is half of the complete punishment, and if she is consenting, there is twenty- five lashes on him and twenty- five on her.’”

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, upon seeing the crescent of the month of Ramadan, would turn toward the Ka‘bah, raise his hands and say, “O Lord, make it (new moon) a month of peace, belief, safety, submission to the will of Allah, good health with rain, abundant sustenance and without illnesses. O Lord, grant us the opportunity to fast during this month, perform salat (prayer) and recite the Holy Quran. O Lord, give it to us with safety, take it back from us with safety, and grant us protection therein.’””

The Prophet, peace be upon him and his progeny, said: "This is the month of Ramadhan, a blessed month, in which Allah has made its fasts obligatory. In it, He opens the gates of Paradise and in it, Satan is put into shackles. There is a night in it, which is worthier than thousand months; whoever misses it he is indeed deprived." He used to repeat it three times.

The Prophet, peace be upon him and his progeny, said: "This is the month of Ramadhan, the blessed month whose fasts Allah has made obligatory. The gates of Paradise are opened in this month and the Satans are shackled in it. In this month, there is a night, which is better than a thousand months. Whoever preserves its sanctity is indeed saved." The Prophet, peace be upon him and his progeny, repeated it three times!

At the presence of Abu Abdillah, peace be upon him, it was mentioned: «Indeed, We sent it down during the night of destiny» (97:1). He said: How clear is its preference over other chapters. He said: I said: And what thing is its preference? He said: The Divine Authority of the Commander of the Believers, peace be upon him, was revealed in it. I said: In the night of destiny that we hope for during the Month of Ramadhan? He said: Yes, it is a night in which the Heavens and the earth were destined, and the Divine Authority of the Commander of the Believers, peace be upon him, was destined in it.

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about the following words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious: ‘We have revealed it during the blessed night.’ (44:3) He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, it is the night of destiny. Every year this night is during the last ten days in the month of Ramadan. It was the night of destiny and no other night when the Holy Quran was revealed. Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, has said, “During this night all matters of wisdom are differentiated.’” (44:4) He (Imam) said, ‘During the night of destiny, all things of good or evil, obedience or disobedience, birth or death, or sustenance that are to take place in the year up to the next month of Ramadan, are measured and determined. Whatever is measured and determined for that year becomes inevitable; however, Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, has a wish in it.’ He (the narrator) has said, ‘I then asked about the meaning of, “The night of destiny is better than one thousand nights?”’ He (Imam) replied, ‘Good deeds like salat (prayer), zakat and other forms of good are better than good deeds done in one thousand months wherein the night of destiny does not exist. Had it not been for the generosity of Allah, the most Blessed, the most High, toward the believing people, they could not gain any success, but Allah increases their good deeds (through our love).”’

11. The narrator asked Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.), “Allah says, ‘Surely We revealed it (Quran) on a blessed night’,so which is that blessed night?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “It is the night of Qadr (power), which is one of the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan. The Holy Quran was revealed in the night of Qadr only. Allah, the Mighty and Sublime says, ‘The fate of everything would be decided by the Divine order in this night’. All the good and bad, obedience and disobedience, birth and death, earnings etc. are decided by the Will of Allah for the whole year in this night only.” The narrator asked, “What is the meaning of verse: ‘The grand night is better than a thousand months’?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “The reward of good deeds performed in this night is better than that of doing the same for a thousand months without the night of Qadr. If the Almighty Allah wouldn’t have multiplied the reward for a believer they wouldn’t have got it but He multiplies the reward for them.”
