عبد الله بن عمر

Abu Abdillah, peace be upon him, said: A man’s seek to cause harmony in his land is from (the trait of) manliness.

"None should remain awake after ʿIshāʾ prayers except either of two men: the one praying or the traveller."

Abdullah bin Umar said to me: O Aba Tufayl, you must consider twelve persons from the descendants of Kaab bin Loi as the Caliphs of the Messenger of Allah (s), after whom mischief and bloodshed would occur and people would fight each other [as all those who mention the twelve persons would create a great controversy].

"We were in Mecca, and the prices of sacrificial animals increased. We bought for one dinar, then for two dinars, and then it reached seven dinars, and after that, we could not find any—neither for a little nor a lot. Hisham al-Mukari wrote to Abu al-Hasan (as) about this, and Imam (as) replied: 'Consider the first price, the second, and the third, add them together, and then give in charity an amount equivalent to one-third of it.'"

When a man’s heart is healthy, then his body is healthy. If the heart is diseased, then the body will become diseased.”

"There is no divorce except according to the Sunnah. Indeed, Abdullah ibn Umar divorced his wife three times in one sitting while she was menstruating. The Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) rejected his divorce and said: 'Whatever contradicts the Book of Allah (swt) must be referred back to the Book of Allah (swt).'"

“Once we were in Makkah and animal for offering became very expensive. We bought for one dinar then, two dinar and then we could not find anything for less or more. Hisham al-Mukariy then wrote a note to abu al-Hassan (a.s.), and informed him (the Imam) of what we had bought and then could not find anything for less or more. He (the Imam) then wrote, ‘Consider the first, second and third prices, then give in charity one-third of the average of such prices.’”

“The hour will not arise until the Mahdi from my descendants comes forth. The Mahdi will not come forth until sixty liars come forward, all of them declaring: I am a prophet.”

I was with Shafi Asbahi when he said: I heard Abdullah bin Umar say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (s) say: After me, there would be twelve Caliphs.

"Surely, Allah does not withdraw knowledge from the people by erasing it from their minds; rather, He does so by taking away the learned people (from among them). And when there is no learned man around, people adopt the ignorant men as their leaders, and refer their questions to these (ignorant leaders), who answer without any knowledge, thus going astray, and causing others to go astray."

he asked abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) the following. “Would there happen what is to happen, may Allah would not show me such a day (death of the Imam (a.s.) who then must I follow as my Imam?” The Imam (a.s.) pointed to his son Musa (a.s.). The narrator has said that he asked the Imams (a.s.), “ What if something will happen to Musa (a.s.) who then must I follow?” The Imam (a.s.), “Follow a son.” I then asked, “What if something would happen to the son and the Imam would leave behind an elder brother or a small son then who must I follow?” The Imam (a.s.) said, “Follow his son and so on one after the other.” In the script of Sawan it says, “. .and so on forever.”

“Abu Sufyan was riding on a camel. Muawiyah was leading the camel, and Yazid was driving the camel. Then God’s Prophet (MGB) cursed the rider, the leader and the driver.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one divorces his wife three times at the same place and time it does not become of any valid effect. The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, rejected the divorce of ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Umar when he divorced his wife with three divorces when she experienced Hayd (menses). The Messenger of Allah called it an invalid divorce saying, ‘Whatever is against the book of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, must return to the book of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘Divorce without waiting period is not valid.’”

“Allah existed when there was no other “being”. He created the “being” and the place and created the light of lights from which all lights lit up. He made to flow to it (light of lights) from His own light which lit up all lights. It was the light from Muhammad and Ali were created. They both continued to be the first two lights; nothing had come into being before them. They continued to flow pure and clean through the clean generations until they separated in two clean persons; ‘Abdallah and Abu Talib (AS).”

The Messenger of Allah, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Family, said: There will come upon my nation that which came upon the sons of Isra’eel, equal by equal. They were, indeed, divided into seventy-two sects, and my nation will be divided into seventy-three sects; they will add one above those. All of them are to be in the Fire, except for one. He said: It was said: O Messenger of Allah, and what is that one? He said: It is what we are upon today, me and my companions.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that a man once came to al-Hassan and al-Husayn, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, when the two of them were sitting on al-Safa’ (the small hill in Makkah). He asked them for charity and they said, ‘Charity can only be paid to one who suffers from a troubling debt, a disgracing loss or severe poverty. Do you have any one of such conditions?’ He replied, ‘Yes, I do.’ They then gave him something. He had asked ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Umar and ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu Bakr for charity, and they had given him something without asking him any questions. He then went back to them and asked, ‘Why did you not ask me any questions as al-Hassan and al-Husayn, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, have done?’ He informed them about what al-Hassan and al-Husayn had asked. They replied, ‘They (al-Hassan and al-Husayn) are being fed with a great deal of knowledge.’”

Knowledge has precedence. The Pen has dried up. The Decree has been accomplished through the Book, and confirmed through the Message. Good fortune is from Allah, and adversity s from Allah, the Mighty and High.” `Abd Allah ibn `Umar says: The Messenger of Allah (SA) used to transmit the following tradition from Allah, the Mighty and High, that Allah, the Mighty and High, says: O son of Adam! You wish for what you wish through My Will. You intended for what you intend for through My Bounty. You disobey through the strength that I have given you. You fulfill your obligations through the health, protection, and forgiveness that I have granted you. I am worthier of your favor than yourself. And you are worthier of your sin that I am. Hence, any good which reached you is reward for your good deeds. And any evil that reaches you in punishment for the sins you have committed. As a result of your mistrust in Me, I have deprived you of My Mercy. All praise belongs to Me. And against you is evident proof (of your evil-doing). I have a way over you for your disobedience, and reward and the best outcome for you with favour. I do not call upon you to warn you. I do not hold you responsible for issues of honor. And I do not burden you with more than you can bear. And I did not impose you with the trust except what you have power over. I am pleased with you for Myself with what you are pleased with yourself from Me. Abd al-Malik explained: “I will never punish you except for what you do (wrong).”

The Messenger of Allah (s) said to `Ali b. Abi Talib (as): On the Day of Resurrection, you will be given – O `Ali – a garment of light, and upon your head will be a crown with an illuminating light [so bright that] it will almost put out the vision of the people of the judgment. Then, a call will come from Allah: “Where is the vicegerent of Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah?” So, you will say: “I am he.” He said: So, the caller will call: “O `Ali! Take your lovers to Paradise and those who opposed you to the Fire.” You are the divider of Paradise, and you are the divider of the Fire.

“Once Jibrail came to the Holy Prophet (SAW) and said, ‘O Muhammad, Allah offers you greetings and says, ‘I have prohibited the fire to harm the man and woman who carried your seed and the man whose lap provided you protection and guardianship. The man who carried your seed is ‘Abdallah ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib and the woman whose womb carried you is ’Amina daughter of Wahab and the man whose lap provided you protection and guardianship is Abu Talib.’
In the hadith of Ibn Fadhal it says “… and Fatima daughter of Asad.”

When Dhul Qarnayn completed the wall, he passed it and entered the shade. Then, he found himself ruling over a mountain that was five hundred cubits in height. So, an angel said to him: “O Dhul Qarnayn! Was there not a path behind you?” So, Dhul Qarnayn said to him: “Who are you?” He said: “I am an angel from the angels of the Merciful. I was assigned to this mountain. There is not a mountain in the creation of Allah that does not have a vein that connects to this mountain. Whenever Allah decides to send an earthquake to a city, He reveals [the command] to me, and I send an earthquake to it.
