Hadith.4009 - Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Abdullah asked Abu Abdullah (as) about exchanging one slave for two slaves, or one slave for another slave along with dirhams. Imam (as) said: "There is no harm in exchanging all types of animals hand-to-hand."

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘It is not valid for a man to make advance payment in the form of ghee to receive oil and vice versa.’”

I said to Abu Abdillah, peace be upon him: What is the meaning of the saying of the praying during his testification: «To Allah belongs what becomes good and is purified, and what is impurified, it is for others»? He said: That which becomes good and is purified is the lawful acquirement of sustenance, and that which is impurified is usury.

Hadith.4045 - Abdullah ibn Sinan asked Abu Abdullah (as) about buying silver that contains mercury and lead with silver coins, knowing that when it is melted, it decreases by two or three dirhams for every ten. Imam (as) said: "It is not permissible, except with gold."

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who makes an advance payment for oil to receive ghee. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not valid.’”

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying that ’Amir al-Mu’minin disliked exchanging of one wasaq (a certain unit of measurement) of dates of Khaybar with two wasaq of dates of al- Madinah because dates of Khaybar are of superior quality.’”

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about selling gold in exchange for dirham. He (the Imam) said, ‘Send a messenger to receive the price saying, ‘Give that and take this.’”

“I once said to abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘I have noticed that Allah, most High, has mentioned Riba’ in more than one passages of the Holy Quran. He (the Imam) asked, ’Do you know why He has done so?’ I (the narrator) replied, ’No, I do not know.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is because He wants people not to deny performing good and benevolent deeds.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, prohibited al- Muhaqalah and al-Muzabanah .’ I then asked, ‘What are they?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is selling what a palm tree has just conceived in exchange for dates and green plantation for wheat.’”

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who owed me a certain amount of dirham and gave me a container of al-Kohl. He (the Imam) said, ‘Silver is for silver and al-Kohl in it is a debt on him until he returns it to you on the Day of Judgment.’”

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), if it is permissible to exchange one Qafiz (a certain unit of measurement) of wheat for two Qafiz of barley. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, it is not permissible unless they are of equal quantities.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘Barley is from wheat.’”

Hadith.4008 - Sama'ah asked Abu Abdullah (as) about selling two animals for one. Imam (as) said: "If you specify their age, then there is no harm."

Whoever engages in buying and selling should avoid the following five things. He should not do any business if he cannot do so. They are as follows: usury; swearing to something or someone; covering up the defects of his goods; praising the goods while selling them, and finding faults with goods while buying them.”

"Usury only applies to what is measured or weighed."

"Wheat and barley should be exchanged one for one, and neither of them should exceed the other."

Imam (as) said: "There is no harm in exchanging goods, as long as they are not measured or weighed."

I asked him about a man who sells dirhams for dinars on credit. Imam (as) said: "There is no harm in it."

“I once asked al-Rida’ (a.s.), about the case of a man to whom someone owes a certain amount of goods and payback time becomes due. His party sells to him a pearl worth a hundred dirham for a thousand dirham and extends the payback time to another appointed time. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not unlawful. My father commanded me to do so and did such a deal.’ He (the narrator) thinks that he had asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about it and he (the Imam) had given a similar answer.”

"One dirham of usury is more severe in the sight of Allah (swt) than seventy acts of fornication, all of which are committed with forbidden relatives."

Hadith.4017 - Dawud ibn al-Husayn asked Abu Abdullah (as) about exchanging one sheep for two sheep and one egg for two eggs. Imam (as) said: "There is no harm, as long as it is not something measured or weighed."
